Product Description

The Griswolds have planned all year for a great summer vacation. From their suburban Chicago home, across America, to the wonders of Wally World fun park in California, every step of the way has been carefully plotted. Except a few hundred hysterical exceptions.

National Lampoon's Vacation is a sublimely goofy comedy, thanks largely to Chevy Chase in his signature role of Clark Griswold. The inept but sincere Clark takes misfortune in stride. So what if they lose all their money when their new car gets wrecked. And it's not too bad when Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) deposits sour Aunt Edna (Imogene Coca) in their back seat for a lift to Phoenix. But what really keeps Clark's eyes on the road is a flirtation with a mysterious blonde (Christie Brinkley) in a red Ferrari.

For those along on the ride, National Lampoon's Vacation, called "fast, funny satire" by The New York Times' Janet Maslin, is a jolly jaunt.
Running Time: 98 min.

Vacation paved the way for the John Hughes movie dynasty of the 1980s. Written by Hughes (who would go on to write, direct, and/or produce The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, and so on) and directed by Harold Ramis (Caddyshack, Groundhog Day, Stuart Saves His Family), the first Vacation movie introduces us to the all-American Griswold family: father Clark (Chevy Chase), mother Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo), son Rusty (future Hughes staple Anthony Michael Hall), and daughter Audrey (Dana Barron). They all pile into the car for a cross-country road trip to Walley World, stopping along the way to view the world's biggest ball of twine. John Candy, Imogene Coca, and Randy Quaid (as yokel Cousin Eddie) pop up along the way. The movie was a big hit, and was followed by several sequels--National Lampoon's European Vacation, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation--but this one is still probably the freshest and funniest of the bunch. --Jim Emerson

5 out of 5 stars Still a Blast. .......2007-08-03

After all these years Vacation remains a joy and a comedic masterpiece. The cast is great but one thing I never knew was that Harold Ramis was the director which explains fully why it is such a masterpiece. It's not Animal House or the Blues Brothers but it is darn close. When I look back on it, how odd it is that so much brilliance was produced in such a short period of time during the late seventies and early eighties. I don't think we'll ever experience another era like that again. Chevy Chase is near perfect here, and having Eugene Levy and John Candy as sidekicks didn't hurt.

3 out of 5 stars "E is for Everything you want to be".......2007-07-23

"National Lampoon's Vacation" is a substantial improvement over director Harold Ramis' previous effort, the pointless and inexplicably overrated "Caddyshack". Chevy Chase gives a hilarious performance in one of his most suitable roles: Clark W. Griswold, a father facing mounting obstacles in his quest to drive his family to the famed theme park Wally World. There are many more laugh-out-loud moments than in several other examples of 70s/80s "new comedy" that I could name.

But some aspects of "Vacation" are quite disturbing. The fate of Imogene Coca's character, and the storyline involving Christie Brinkley's character, reveal a moral corruption at the heart of "Vacation" that the film never satisfactorily addresses or resolves. Ramis actually states in his DVD commentary that Clark Griswold is "not a good person," and indeed he seems to possess no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Ramis also points out that "Vacation" is a light comedy, and that he successfully worked more serious material into such later comedies as "Groundhog Day". But for many viewers "Vacation"'s failure to take seriously its main character's amorality must diminish its effectiveness at getting laughs.

5 out of 5 stars "Aunt Edna?..She's still Alive?".......2007-07-12

One of the funniest movies I have ever seen in my lifetime. I never get tired of watching it over and over, it's just timeless. Why? because we all can relate to it. Who hasn't had a vacation from hell, with relatives from hell? I'm sure everybody has. Every actor on this movie was awesome, even the dog!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Chevy Chase Steals the Show.......2007-07-05

This is your average American family a mom, a dad, and two kids. You really see a lot of great acting in this movie you have three very good performances you have Chevy Chase who is the parent, Anthony Michael Hall who is the teenage son, and you have Christie Brinkley the girl who drives the red Ferrari. You can't go wrong with this movie it will make you laugh and pee your pants simultaneously. It isn't a hard to find movie you can buy it on Amazon, movie stores, or you can be cheap like me I bought it on VHS at a yard sale for one dollar, brand new (thrift stores are good too).

Wolf Creek, written and directed by Greg McClean, is the Blair Witch Project of the Australian outback. Capitalizing on the human fear of becoming lost in the wilderness, in this case a desert crater called Wolf Creek National Park, this graphic horror film exploits the handheld camera to capture the grotesque actions of Mick Taylor (John Janatt), a sadistic serial killer. When a hip twenty-something guy, Ben Mitchell (Nathan Phillips), and two hippie-ish girls, Cassandra (Liz Hunter) and Kristy (Kestie Morassi), take a road trip and their car breaks down, they have no choice but to accept help from Mick, an eccentric rural Aussie, who, like a spider, tows them into his nightmarish lair. Mick hunts kangaroos and hates tourists, translating his fetish for knives, shotguns, and other torture devices into a need to kill humans as if they're vermin infesting his majestic landscape. Ample blood and gore leave the viewer feeling nearly as sick as the girls who are forced to watch each other die. Like Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, Mick Taylor is a savvy, calculating killer, despicable but psychologically fascinating. --Trinie Dalton

Description

Welcome to Wolf Creek, where the suspense of The Blair Witch Project meets the horror of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Inspired by Australia's "Backpacker Killer" who murdered seven backpackers in the `90s, Wolf Creek won wide acclaim from critics, filmmakers and audience members alike at the Sundance Film Festival. Three unsuspecting hikers take off for a drive across Australia. When the trio returns from a four-hour hike to Wolf Creek National Park, they find their car is dead. Help comes in the form of big, back-slapping bushman Mick (John Jarratt). Since Mick appears to be more Crocodile Dundee than Freddy Krueger, the trio trusts him…which proves to be a grave mistake. Quentin Tarantino said, "Jarratt delivers a performance that's destined to go down as one of the greatest film heavies of the last 25 years. "Not since the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre has terror felt so real." Ken Fox, TV Guide

5 out of 5 stars That's not a knife... THIS is a knife!.......2007-07-03

[Wolf Creek is loosely based off the Outback Killer, who is said to have killed a bunch of hitchhikers and backpackers in Australia.] Three friends are driving through Australia on a road trip and stop to see the worlds largest meteor crater at Wolfe Creek. When they return to their car it is dead and their watches have also stopped. Along comes Mick Taylor, a seemingly nice guy who offers to help them out(This seems so cliche but it's really not.) So without giving too much of the story away, they take this guys help and wind up fighting for their lives.

Wolf Creek was probably the best horror film to come out in a while. I'm a horror buff; I can watch any of them and be entertained. Every so often though, I watch a movie that is flat out scary and done perfectly. That is Wolf Creek.

The begining is all about character build up which you NEVER see in horror movies nowadays. Everyone wants immediate action: more gory and less story. That's why some people I've conversed with about this movie said they didn't like it because the opening dragged. I really think it was important though, you really got to like the characters.

Secondly, I love that there is little to no music and when there is music it is subtle. It doesn't really guide or warn you; you don't know whether Mick Taylor is about to jump out or not. Instead, you just feel nervous and scared the whole time. Which is awesome.

Third, I loved the visual shots. It added this prodigious characteristic to Australia. It made it seem large and endless yet empty and capable of engulfing everyone inside. I guess what I'm trying to say is that Australia was almost a character itself in the movie; a villian.

Lastly, the acting was great.

I really recommend this movie for anyone that loves horror films and has been long awaiting a really good one.

3 out of 5 stars Forgettable.......2007-07-02

Five minutes after you watch this film, you'll forget you saw it. There is a small amount of suspense, but overall, it's just cookie cutter stuff. There is some decent gore, but the main characters are even dumber than your average slasher victims. It holds your interest for about 60% of the movie, then it erupts into a buffet of stupid decisions by two victims. If this is really based on a true story, there was a whole lot of embellishment going on. I think even the LAPD could catch this guy.

I'll give it 3 stars for the slight suspense during the first 45 minutes or so, then it loses 2 for the farse of a conclusion.

3 out of 5 stars Not as bad as you've been led to believe, but not great........2007-06-26

Wolf Creek (Greg McLean, 2005)

Wolf Creek is another of those movies that often gets lumped in with Saw and Hostel, and not to anyone's benefit. Least of all the movie's. Yes, there are a few scenes that might make the squeamish cringe, but the gore factor here is surprisingly low; I'm half-convinced the movie has the rating it does because of the language rather than the violence.

Based on the true story of Ivan Milat, a serial killer who was relatively unknown outside Australia previous to the making of this movie, Wolf Creek follows three kids--Ben (Nathan Phillips of Snakes on a Plane), Kristy (Darkness Falls' Kestie Morassi), and Liz (TV actress Cassandra Magrath)--as they head out to Wolf Creek, a large meteorite crater in the Australian outback, and go hiking. When they get back to their car, they find it dead. A few hours later, a friendly chap named Mick (Picnic at Hanging Rock's John Jarratt) offers to tow them back to his camp and get their car running. That's not what he has in mind, as you know if you've seen any of the trailers.

The acting, with the exception of Jarrett (who has been much-lauded for his efforts), is average, maybe slightly above. The cinematography is wonderful, which you can pretty much automatically expect from any movie that comes from that neck of the woods; there's just something about Australian cinematographers. The pace is, as with most horror movies since, modeled upon that of Alien--do nothing for a long time, and then cut everything loose. It's getting kind of old, to be honest. And that's the movie's biggest problem; it cleaves tightly to horror film convention for being an indie flick. Happy beginning, ominous stories at night, false alarm, car breakdown, scary serial killer. Woo. It's done with some style, to be sure, but it's nothing you haven't seen before. ***

2 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE SUCKS!!!.......2007-06-19

I hated this movie. I was forced th watch it with my friends one night and was bored out of my life. You minus well just skipp to the last 30 mins because there is no suspenese what so ever until the end. If you like these kind of realistic movies I would recomend to see High Tension. Its avery similar film that has lots of suspense and keeps you entertain. Overall dont waste your time on this movie.

4 out of 5 stars Low-budget, yes. But still really good........2007-06-14

I'm shocked to see that Amazon reviewers have only given this movie 3 stars. The first time I saw this, I was shocked and found myself biting my nails through the last half of the movie.

So what's this movie about? Two girls and a guy go on a trip to visit Wolf Creek. Upon getting there, they find that their car won't start. Hours later, a man finds them and offers to take them to his house where he will fix their car. The three kids fall asleep but when one of the girls wakes up, she finds that her two friends are missing. And it goes on from there.

What's to like about this movie? First of all, the characters are likeable. Nowadays, creators of scary movies throw in unlikeable, unrelatable characters that leave you emotionless when something bad happens to them. These characters are great and you'll feel a huge amount of sympathy for them towards the end of the movie. Second, it's far from predictable. Think you know what's going to happen at the end? Think again. Third, there's really no main character. You know the whole "nothing bad can happen to the main character" stereotype in scary movies? Not true for this film. Fourth, it's scary, gory, and mysterious-three traits that make scary movies really good.

And what's not to like? Not much. The only thing that might be a negative to some people is the gory scenes. I actually don't mind them but it may be a turn off for some.

My rating: 4/5. It's a really good slasher flick and although it's a low-budget, it's far better than most high-budget films in the same genre.

2 out of 5 stars DUMB DAZE.......2007-03-22

NATIONAL LAMPOON'S DORM DAZE 2 (2006)
directed by David & Scott Hillebrand
approx. 109 minutes

Putting Vida Guerra on the cover of your cheezy college comedy is a great way to sell DVDs. Putting her in less that 15 minutes of the movie is a great way to get negative reviews.

The plot to this movie is all over the place. There is a Professor dealing in the illegal jewel trade who is having a relationship with a student. Two students are competing for a grant for graduate school and one of them is prepared to "go all the way". Then there's a killer loose on the boat, a la 'JASON TAKES MANHATTAN'. Some of the students are trying to stay abstinent, others are have just broken up & are trying to "live it up". Oh by the way, all these characters are cast in a play that is to be judged against a statement from a group of pretentious feminists who later turn out to be slatterns. There are a few funny parts but mostly it feels like a rush job trying to reiterate the stereotype that college kids are soul-less animals controlled by their raging libido.

The cast is a weird grouping of people... porn actress Jasmin St. Claire, the guy from 'the Nanny', the Principal's daughter from "Boston Public", "the Sherminator" from 'AMERICAN PIE', etc. I never saw the first 'DORM DAZE' so I was surprised to see Danielle Fishel (best known as "Topanga" on 'BOY MEETS WORLD') in this movie.

The DVD features a "Vida Guerra featurette" which is also misleading. While Vida is interviewed in this "special feature", its actually a behind the scenes of a photoshoot for the August/September 2006 issue of Black Men magazine. The issue featured pictures of Vida, China Shavers and Jennifer Lyons.

Apparently, 'DORM DAZE 3' is already in production. I wonder if the marketing for this one will affect the sales of future titles.

1 out of 5 stars Set sail for the bargain bin........2007-02-28

This is the worst teensploitation film I've ever seen. The jokes are flat and uninspired. There is absolutely no new ground broken here. Not a single memorable moment, with the exception of a slow motion scene in a woman's shower room.

But if it's skin you're looking for, hasn't the internet made movies like this obsolete? Why do I need to sit through 100 minutes of dumb plot and jokes that are all dead on arrival when I can take two minutes to do a google search for Vida Guera?

3 out of 5 stars it's mildly entertaining! .......2007-01-31

this one is sick & full of humor! however, it is stupid humor, I only laughed about half the time. lots of hot chicks in this film, including Vida Guerra. this is pretty much the film u'd expect it to be, partying, sex, drugs, nudity & so on... the premise, is a diamond has been stolen by a "pretend" investigator and a smart monkey amped up on drugs & such steals it shortly after the man is murdered but we don't know who did it. that person was looking to steal it from the original thief as the diamond is worth $4 million. but that's not the entire focuss of the film which is good cause I don't think anyone would want to watch a monkey running around everywhere with a diamond in its tiny little bag it uses to steal things. would get pretty dull. so in turn, we get a competition between two plays & I think we all know which ones the judges would've preferred, lol. however, I never found this film all that funny. the plot was really weird as they switched between both events and then had all these side characters doing other stuff and was all very distracting & not very well executed. I could pick apart a bunch of things wrong with this film but this film is just meant to be enjoyed without over-thinking it! otherwise, you might find yourself a little disappointed or u'll be hating it with passion. it's not a good film but may or may not be worth seeing.

5 out of 5 stars VIDA GUERRA, I LOVE YOU MADLY..........2006-11-25

... although I honestly haven't seen this flick yet, cover girl Vida Guerra gets 10 stars because she is quite simply the hottest female on the planet - GREAT GOSH A-MIGHTY, IF THAT GAL AIN'T GOT THE END TO END ALL ENDS! Eat your heart out, Jennifer Lopez.

Look me up when I make it big, Vida.

3 out of 5 stars A little chaotic for my taste, but funny enough at times.......2006-10-19

Dorm Daze 2, sequal to Dorm Daze released a couple of years ago, takes place as our college characters from the previous movie set sail on a college cruise. The main theme on this cruise again is sex and alcohol, the quality things to do in college. The plot that ties this movie together is a stolen diamond that one of the professors had heisted after his archeological venture. Also tied in with our characters is a play that one of them has produced that they will be performing in a competition while at see. The play itself revolves around a diamond robbery. Again, their are some funny things that go on in this movie, but for me it was a little chaotic, at least the first movie took place around a dorm and seemed more plausable and a funny exageration of dorm life. This movie seems to play on some fantasy world where pretty much a whole college goes on a cruise for 2 months at a time with professors, advisors, and the College dean all going along to teach class. I guess they must all be rich. This movie was much more pieced together, thinner threads tieing things together, and I don't even think they introduced some of the characters again until mid-movie eg. Fusball, who is in the movie throughout but his name isn't mentioned until about 40 minutes in. They expect that I have remembered all of these people's name from the first movie and what they did their. Actually, this movie's plot has little to do with the first one except for the character's playing the parts. Overall, humerous moments, but just not spectacular in my book, and not the best national lampoon's production.

Land of the Falling Lakes is about the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia. I could not believe a place like this still exists in Europe. A very beautiful and unique wilderness worth learning about.

The program is typical of the high quality production of the Nature program on PBS. Beautiful cinematography with well thought out narration and music.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantasy World On Earth.......2006-03-01

I've always loved waterfalls; and in this DVD, I couldn't get enough of the beautiful scenery and the extraordinary development of this land after the brutal war that the land endured. The animals (brown bear, wolves, beaver, etc.) live in such a peaceful setting and it's interesting to see the lives they have in all seasons. It is one of the oldest national parks in the world and I would suggest anyone, who has the ability to travel, to make it a destination and see the beauty up close.

5 out of 5 stars Why this movie scared me .......2007-09-08

This was the one movie that actually scared me when I saw it at the theatre. I was 6 or 7 years old and accompanied by my younger brother and grandparents. I guess, besides the fact that I was just a kid, the reason it scared me was that my grandparents found it humorous to insist that all of what I was seeing on the screen was real. I believed it and really had trouble sleeping that night. All I could think of was a bear smashing the bedroom window to get at me. Anyway, I find it interesting that so many other people see the similarities to Jaws as far as the characters go, because, for a long time, I thought I was the only one. I am glad to have finally seen extras on this film. I always wondered whether the bear was real, which it is. I also like the way the Jaws plotline was followed by not showing the whole bear until late in the movie. My advice is to see this movie before you by it. Although I enjoyed it, others may have a different opinion.

5 out of 5 stars Grizzly.......2007-07-26

Great movie but you have to keep in mind it's a classic. The scary scenes weren't as high tech then as they are now. A must have for a movie collector.

4 out of 5 stars Blast from the past!.......2007-04-28

This film is a very good film. I remember seeing this film at a Drive-In (yes!..there are still a few around today) back when i was a kid. Most folks might see this film as a "Jaws" rip off, but, what isn't today..lol..however, i think that this film is truly one of a kind (until this becomes a remake..oh brother!). However, I highly recommend this film to anybody that is into the B-Movie horror gender. Highly Recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars This is a classic...........2007-04-22

This movie while being blasted as a Jaws-on-land ripoff was very successful when it was released in 1976 (made over $39 million on a budget of under $1 million). This is fun from start to finish. Lots of bear POV shots and plenty of gruesome deaths (some are a bit cheesy but that still works in this movie's favor). I have become a big nature attacks movie fan and this movie is a must own for fans of this genre. The recent release by Media Blasters/Shriek Show is top notch.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Adventure Film.......2007-02-16

I saw this movie when I was 15 years old in the only theater Bedford County ever had. Christopher George plays the role of Ranger Michael Kelly and Richard Jaeckel plays the role of Naturalist Arthur Scott. Kelly is ready for another big season at the local Natural Park. As the camp fills up all of a sudden people start showing up dead. First Kelly thinks that the people are dieing of natural causes. However, when Kelly and his fellow Rangers start investigating more they find out that the people are dieing because of a ****** ****. Enters Naturalist Arthur Scott who makes a living studying *****. What Scott fines is that this isn't just any ordinary ****, it's a ******* ****. What makes matters worst is that the Park Supervisor has open hunting season and that fills the park with regular hunters and hunters that are drunk. I would give this movie 8 Weasel Stars but when you throw in the beauty of the state park that makes gives this movie 10 stars. I also bought this movie from Amazon and I had no trouble with the video or the audio.

I've been photographing for a long time, and have perhaps become a bit smug about certain subject matter. Take waterfalls, for example. "I know how to photograph those!" Well, I don't. The tips in this DVD proved that.

There are many other great tips in this DVD, meaning I'll need to watch it several times to take them all in.

I recommend this DVD to anyone considering a photo trip to Yellowstone National Park, even for advanced photographers. Aside from the fine content, this DVD is professionally produced. In fact, the tips presented have broad applicability beyond Yellowstone. You won't be sorry buying this one.

5 out of 5 stars The Crown Jewels of the American landscape.......2007-05-09

`America's National Parks' is not only a video tour of these locations, it is also something of a history and trivia lesson in that a good amount of information is offered about each area. As far as visuals are concerned, the cinematography really is something special to look at. The narration throughout the program is distinct and nicely paced in my opinion also. I've been fortunate enough to travel all over the world and one word that sticks in my mind about America is `diversity' because there is so much to see and experience and we are very blessed to have what we do. And we appreciate what we have.

To be quite honest, before seeing this program, I had no idea there were 55 different national parks in America. Now that I do know and having seen them all on this wonderful documentary, I want to rush out and see every one of them (even the few I've already visited). I'm sure that others seeing this material will probably feel the same way. It is simply inspiring just to watch and appreciate these beautiful and unspoiled landscapes.

Two special features are included in this DVD set. The first is entitled `Symphony to America's National Parks' and is music from classical composers set to a video montage of outstanding scenery lasting about 30 minutes (there is a different one for each disc). The second is called `Our Fragile Heritage' and at about 5 minutes long, it is basically a public service announcement with an important message. It talks about the importance of preservation and visitor's responsibilities inside the parks and I feel it is a useful compliment to the main program.

I highly recommend this documentary to everyone. This is worth watching over and over and it would be a worthwhile addition, in my opinion, to any DVD collection. Enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Best coverage of national parks so far.......2007-01-25

I agree with the previous reviewer. This is a must-have for all national park lovers. It does not only cover the most popular ones, but the rarely-visited as well. Although we may still grab some information on the website of National Park Service, it is good to see the real and living scenes from videos.

There are, however, two shortcomings of this 2-DVD set. First, it really only covers national parks. There are no national monument (for example, White Sands), national memorial (for example, Mount Rushmore), national historic site...... in the film. Some of them may be even more magnificent or spectacular than certain national parks. Another is that many scenes in this DVD set are not filmed so great, and even worse. I've been to many of these national parks and ask myself: how do these guys make these beautiful scenes so bad? So when you feel it doesn't look beautiful while watching it, don't just believe that park is not worthy of visiting. It tends to be a correct choice to blame on the men who made it.

Despite the above two bad sides, I still recommend this DVD set. It is indispensable.

    4 out of 5 stars Simply beautiful.......2004-11-17

Considering the large amount of ground these DVDs have to cover, they do a great job. Every single national park is given time, with interesting facts and great scenery. I loved learning and especially *seeing* more of some of the obscure parks that you normally can't find much information about, such as Kobuk Valley. For National Park lovers, it's a great addition to your national park library.

Almost as frightening as the tragic events it details, On Native Soil is essential viewing for anyone seeking to understand how systemic failures in U.S. national security led to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. By focusing on 9/11 survivors, the surviving family members of 9/11 victims, and their passionate demand for an official investigation into the World Trade Center attacks masterminded by Osama bin Laden, this riveting documentary serves as a remarkable audio-visual companion to the 9/11 Commission's official report (which is included in its entirety on this DVD). Featuring alternating narration by Kevin Costner and Hilary Swank, the film contains much of the same material included in other 9/11 documentaries, but it's informed by an inspiring sense of moral outrage as we learn, step by step, how much the U.S. government and the Bush administration knew about possible terrorist attacks prior to 9/11, and failed to take any significant action against those threats. Beginning with former CNN reporter Peter Arnett's revealing interview with bin Laden in Afghanistan in 1997, and ending with the sobering observation that we're still inadequately prepared for another 9/11-like attack, On Native Soil unfolds with a deeply personal perspective that's dramatically contrasted by the galling audacity of administrative spin control.

As recalled by surviving family members of 9/11 victims, ample evidence existed to prove that the government was aware of terrorist plots on native soil. In light of their research, then-National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice looks particularly culpable: As one grieving widower observes, Rice either lied in her post 9/11 press conferences (when she claimed "nobody could have known of these attacks") or--worse yet--she was unaware of the voluminous evidence of active terrorist plots available in the public record. It goes on from there: interagency communication breakdowns, disorganized response strategies when the attacks occurred, incredibly lax security at airports, and damning evidence of governmental neglect--all leading to the inescapable conclusion that 9/11 might have been avoided had the Bush administration been more attentive to obvious and immediate threats to national security. In driving these points home, director Linda Ellman doesn't flinch from the harshest realities: This is one of the few 9/11 documentaries to show attack victims leaping to their deaths from the burning twin towers of the WTC, and emotional testimony from survivors adds yet another layer of tragedy to these earth-shaking events. As a tribute to the families who confronted a shockingly reluctant administration and demanded the 9/11 Commission Report, On Native Soil serves a noble and timeless purpose: It honors those who died on 9/11, provides a cautionary warning against complacency among government officials and U.S. citizens alike, and reminds us that terrorism on native soil is a constant threat that must not be ignored. --Jeff Shannon

Excellent DVD. Well produced. Great recap of what took place 9/11/01.

3 out of 5 stars Mostly Well Done, but with an Inaccurate Conclusion.......2006-11-03

There is a lot to like about this DVD, especially in the first three/quarters of the film. There is much new footage, including interviews with family members of those lost, as well as harrowing tales from some who narrowly escaped death on that dreadful day. The events of that day are both clearly and sensitively handled by Costner and Swank.

I liked this film a lot right up until the end, when the release of the 9/11 Commission Report was portrayed as a moment of closure and triumph for the families who lost loved ones on 9/11, and who had pushed for the formation of the 9/11 Commission. In fact, the release of the 9/11 Commission Report was anything but closure for these families, and countless others as well. These families had given questions to the commission in the hope that they would make an honest effort to find out what really happened. Sadly, few of these questions were asked, and so most of the families' questions are still as yet unanswered. For a really good treatment of this aspect of the 9/11 aftermath, see the film, "9/11, Press for Truth."

    3 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-06-06

I found the documentary to be very interesting and I was able to learn a lot about the FBI. I do wish, however, that there was signifcantly more informatino regarding agent training.

3 out of 5 stars General Information on the FBI - but nothing spectacular........2007-02-28

This is a great DVD, however do not expect to get very in-depth about the way the FBI works. A brief history of "The Bureau" is given - much is skipped -- last 3/4 of the DVD is more about the 9/11 attacks on the WTC and the Pentagon.

While these events of 9/11 are important to show how changes occured in the FBI, very little emphasis is placed on Who the FBI is -- What they Investigate -- FBI Training, etc...

This documentary would have benefited greatly if it could have showed the pre-9/11 FBI and then the post-9/11 FBI, because their mission changed overnight -- and is not even close to being the same.

Buy the DVD if you want some general info. on the FBI - but for research purposes, etc.. (or even for those who wish to join the FBI and get a feel for it) you're honestly better of reading books by former agents, etc ...

As previously said, get the DVD if you want some general info. and a very basic understanding of who the FBI is.

5 out of 5 stars Great Documentary, Esp. Considering All Others on the FBI.......2005-05-15

Considering that there aren't many well put-together documentaries available on the FBI, I thought that this one was excellent. You can only cover so much in two hurs, and I thought that this one did a very good job of it. There is also a very long feature on Hogan's Alley (mock city training center used by the FBI in Virginia) in the Special Features that was shot sometime in the late 80s/early 90s. I highly recommend this DVD if you're interested in a career with the FBI.

    3 out of 5 stars Fairly interesting/entertaining........2005-02-04

This is a fairly well-presented documentary on the FBI. The creators of this film did a good job explaining what the FBI's role is, how that role has changed, and what should be expected in the future. It is a fairly superficial documentary, though: don't expect any complex analysis/insights into the operations of the FBI. Nevertheless, the editors did a fairly good job, got some interesting footage, and showed things that rarely are shown.

3 out of 5 stars Not good, not bad, just average........2004-06-26

This DVD was just OK, it wasn't good, and it wasn't bad. It goes in depth about how the FBI works in general, but doesn't go into cases in depth very much (Waco, Hanssen) etc. 90% of the video concentrates on how the FBI works now after 9/11, dealing with terrorism, but there wasn't any piece of it which highlighted thier priorities before 9/11. Some of the material nearly went as far as to being borderline propoganda, but the directors appear to have tried to stay away from that. It highlights some of the FBI's ups, and a few of thier down's. It goes into mostly how the FBI handles security of bigger events, but that was nothing new to me, and shouldn't be for any of you (snipers of roofs, instense screening, gaurds, etc.) Overall, I'd have to recomend you don't watch this, but if you know absolutely nothing about the FBI, this may be a good place to start learning.
