Scooby-Doo is making a big comeback with several helpings on TV and new videos. The series' writers are smart enough to mildly spoof themselves, and this movie opens with Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne, Frank, and Velma solving a crime that ends with the now-classic Scooby line, "It's... [insert some administrative minion/angry neighbor/disgruntled relative], only to have the criminal bleat, "And I would've gotten away with it too, if it hadn't been for you kids!" There they meet one of Velma's idols, fright-writer Ben Ravencroft (voiced by an effective Tim Curry). Smitten Velma and gang accept his invitation to his New England hometown festival. When one of Ravencroft's ancestors suddenly swoops down from the supernatural heavens, the gang's on alert. This movie is appropriate for viewers 4 and up (although some of the animated frights may haunt sensitive viewers). It's also for their parents who may have been fans in the series' initial run. The cool and fun soundtrack's catchy tunes include a song performed by the Hex Girls, one of whom is none other than former Go-Go Jane Weidlin. If the theme song's got a country beat, that's because it's sung by Mr. Achy Breaky himself, Billy Ray Cyrus. --N.F. Mendoza

Not your father's Scooby Doo.......2007-09-16
I wish I'd read a few reviews before I watched the movie with my kids. The original Scooby Doo series showed kids that when the lights come on, you see there was really nothing to be afraid of. This movie was a betrayal of that ethos with the inclusion of "real" monsters and magic. The movie starts out great with hip, witty writing and dialogue that riffs on the Scooby legacy in a way that keeps it interesting and humorous for adults. In act two, "Witch's Ghost" flames-out as a kids' movie as it morphs into an animated equivalent of a teen horror flick.
The part of the movie that played like a religious tract/promo for the Wicca was just weird. Adult Scooby fans should watch this so you know I'm not making it up or exaggerating. What's going on over there at Time Warner? It's like Wicca licensed the Scooby Doo characters from them to burnish its image. No matter what your religious beliefs are, it's weird to see a religion endorsed in a major studio commercial kids' movie. If this movie played in theaters it would get a PG-13. It's not for the under 12 crowd. My kids (under 7) didn't really lock in on the Wicca thing, but they were freaked out by the monster turning out to be "real" and deadly--a fairly central guest character gets sucked screaming into the underworld by supernatural forces of evil. I think our pluralistic society would remain more harmonious if Warner Bros. would adhere to the separation of church and Scooby from now on.
This is not Wiccan Propaganda..........2007-05-23
Scooby and the gang help an author look for the diary of his ancestor; he claims she was wrongfully accused of using her magic for evil.
I have read many of the reviews trashing this as Wiccan Propoganda. If it were truly Wiccan Propaganda, then the supernatural element would be out! There might be spells and potions used, but a ghost trapped in a book and a giant turkey would never have been used. The supernatural parts are for entertainment...because portraying real Wicca would be uninteresting--any portrayal of a religion is most likely to be inaccurate...
1. We will never see an accurate story about the history of Islam because any portrayal of Muhammad is punishable by death.
2. "The Da Vinci Code" was attacked as trying to make people question the divintiy of Christ and accusing the Catholic Church of a major cover up--I am Christian; this movie did not make me question Christ's divinity; it reminded me that he was also human. I am Catholic...I have always thought of religion as a form of government, so I would not be surprised if there are some cover ups.
SCOOBY-DOO AND THE WITCH'S GHOST is a story that plays fair. It reveals a truth that exists in all religions...a truth that my research shows Wicca the most willing to accept--there are those who use religion for good and those who use it for evil. Religion is not good or evil within itself--it only has the "power" given to it by the practioner.
If this movie makes one question his Christian faith, then the doubts are more deep-seeded than anything in a SCOOBY-DOO story will ever bring out. If SCOOBY-DOO makes you question your faith, see a priest or a therapist.
Wicca dogma in Scooby Doo???.......2006-11-23
I saw most of this movie with my children; they watching a little afternoon TV while I cleaned. I was pretty surprised to see the content of the Wicca religion, and Wicca songs about Earth Wind and Fire sung by "nice girls" with vampire teeth. They made it sound like, "Oh we are Wicca, there is nothing wrong with that!" Another reviewer mentioned that this would never be tolerated if this movie included dogma from Judaism, Islam or Catholicism. I let them finish watching, because I wanted them to see the whole thing before I explained to them that many people in the world believe that Wicca is a religious venue for witchcraft. I am not sure if they caught the whole idea about Wicca from the movie, but you know, these tiny little minds are like sponges. Next thing you know, my daughter will be casting spells saying, "but mom, I saw it on Scooby Doo!" I agree with another reviewer that it should be clearly stated on this movie that it contains content about Wicca. I only saw it on TV, which I could have turned off. What of those who spent their good money on it and found out later that it includes positive teaching about paganism.
Wicca Propaganda Film - Hello!?!?.......2006-11-02
Not for kids, unless you want to endoctrinate them into wicca.
The ghost is real, not a masked person..........2006-10-13
Ok, from someone who partakes in _NO_ religion at all...so there!
0 spoilers.
This is the oddest Scooby-Doo i've ever seen compared to others. The character animation looks a tad bit more dramatic. The soundtrack and sound samples are much more mastered than other Scooby-Doo's. The plot is very well thought out and takes more than just a drooling smile to follow.
Now i like these elements i have listed so far, but 1 thing as mentioned by everybody else pulled 1 star from it for me...the ghost is real. In case you missed it, i'm not religious at all. However, a real ghost? No matter how many controversial elements one might find in a Scooby-Doo, a mask of some sort should be pulled away at the end (it must be so :-).
Now, for those of you that know something about Mr. Hanna or Mr. Barbera from their interviews, articles, books, etc., they _MIGHT_ of changed the plot so the ghost was not real and that's it. At some point however, for those who go looking hard and long enough, they will find what they are looking for. So the gang finally found it, so be it.
If you have children or a child and you choose not to show it to them, atleast watch it your adult-self. Scooby-Doo is a fantasy cartoon. Scooby-Doo has been portraying reality in it's very own fantasy all these years. It's really great to see the gang share with us, something alot of us consider fantasy, for themselves for a moment. If i wasn't so bent on seeing the mask flying off, i would of gave it a 5. Old habbits die hard :-).

Professor David Ash (Aidan Quinn) is skeptical of the supernatural, yet he is invited by elderly Nanny Tess Webb (Anna Massey) to investigate paranormal goings-on at her country estate. When Ash arrives, he meets her three adult children (Kate Beckinsale among them, who becomes his future love interest) and the family doctor (John Gielgud), all of whom deny anything is going on and claim that Nanny Tess is merely hallucinating. Yet after spending some time there, the professor begins experiencing unexplainable visions that only Nanny Tess, and often only he, sees. Furthermore the ghost of his sister, who died as a child in a drowning accident, begins to roam the estate. Is he imagining it and going mad? Or is the house truly haunted? Adapted by Tim Prager from the James Herbert novel, Lewis Gilbert's highly memorable film is a brilliant haunted-house tale with chilling scenes and an exceptional plot twist. --Bryan Reesman

Enjoyable film -- surprise ending . . ........2007-06-24
Let me say this first: I usually do not like films starring Kate Beckinsale. It's not that I don't like her, I don't even know her, but I've never found her convincing as a "dark" type of character; nevertheless, while her acting is good in "Haunted," even here she is a little too peppy for me, although her numerous nude scenes are probably the reason why many men like this film. To sum up things up, I did like this movie, as it played on aspects of reality and unreality quite well, and I really didn't see the ending coming, which is a nice change. Aidan Quinn does a great job acting here, and his character is believable. He is another one of those actors I'm not really fond of, but he's great here.
Sufficiently chilling 1920's English-Manorhouse Thriller.......2007-01-23
To be brief,HAUNTED is an excellent ghost story, well acted,well-scripted and beautifully filmed. Why 4 stars? Having had the advantage of seeing THE OTHERS,SIXTH SENSE and THE CHANGELING before seeing HAUNTED,I had figured out everything by the first quarter of the film-AND I WAS RIGHT,TOO!That should not stop you though from seeing this movie highlighted by the performances of the deliciously smarmy Anthony Andrews (of BRIDESHEAD REVISITED fame) as the VERY creepy older brother to and equally chilling Kate Beckinsale as his baby sister.WHAT A PAIR THESE TWO ARE! What can one say about Aidan Quinn but that he is always good at what he does.Had I have seen HAUNTED before the above-mentioned films I probably would have given it the extra star.Still,HAUNTED is sufficiently chilling, creepy, ghosty and spooky-all the things that a good tale of horror should have!
Absolutely love this movie..........2006-10-19
Albeit a bit low-budget with some scene gaffes/continuity mistakes, it's enjoyable just the same. I won't say much about the film as the other reviewers have pretty much clued you in on what happens. I found it a bit sad that David Ash and Christina could not realize their budding relationship...her character was quite redeemable despite the foul influence of her older brother. She truly cared for David.
Much better than the book!
AN EXCELLENT GHOST STORY: ORIGINAL! .......2006-10-06
This is not a film with lots of blood and gore. In fact there is no blood and gore. The film "Haunted," was written by James Herbert. I happened to read the book while on a flight from Chicago to L.A., and although I don't read horror books, but do like some of the films in the genre, I found the book interesting and very original. Therefore, I was pleased to see the film when it was released. I believe that this is an underrated gem of a film: And is deserving of 5 stars. David Ash (Aidan Quinn) is a professor who has debunked anything dealing with the supernatural. He has even written a book on the subject. He comes into contact with a woman who has been pleading with him through several letters to help her with the evil spirits in her home.
The woman Nanny Tess (Anna Massey) is excellent in her role. I will not give out any spoilers in this review, as to do so will ruin the film for you. He decides to investigate the womans home. It is a mansion at Edbrook, [Edbrook Mansion]. The mansion is occupied by 3 siblings. Two men and one young woman. The elder brother Robert Mariell (Anthony Andrews) is the leader of these young adults. The sister, Christina, is portrayed by the beautiful (Kate Beckinsale). Not everything is what is seems in this mansion. The family physician, Dr. Doyle is portrayed by (John Gielgud). What David encounters is very shocking and haunting. There is more to the occupants of this mansion than he realizes. The ending is terrific, and totally original. You will enjoy this film. Highly recommended.
Awsome ghost story!.......2006-09-29
This is a great one! Very interesting and well presented, and it will definitely give you goosebumps toward the end!!

Customer Reviews:
Good, not great.......2007-09-15
Ghost in the Machine is my favorite album, but unfortunately Sting decided to use horn section instead of hiring a decent keyboard player for this tour and that was a huge mistake. The horns are annoying most of the time and add nothing to the songs.
However, there are some songs that work: "Bring on the Night", "Demolition Man" and "Shadows in the Rain" are all enjoyable and its the Police after all so even an average show by the Police is not to be missed.
I am still waiting for the day they release the "Shea Stadium" 8/18/83 as it was their most historic concert.
And instead of watching a DVD go see them in concert! They are touring after all... :)
More PLEASE!.......2007-09-02
With the Police reunion in full swing (albeit unaffordable for me, even on a physician's salary!) those of us who worshipped the Police in the 80's can only hope that Sting and the boys will dig into the boxes for some old live footage and bring us some new DVD's. A redone "Police Around the World" would be nice and some pre-Synchronicity live shows would be awesome. I have a poor quality recording of the Police in Chile from the Ghost in the Machine tour that is just awesome from a concert standpoint, though the quality is awful (I compiled it from YouTube videos and burned it myself). Which brings us to this DVD...the quality is pretty good. I agree with others that the instrument mix was a failed experiment...the horns and Sting's footpedal organ are more distracting than helpful to the music. Sting was obviously tired of what he could accomplish with a 3 piece band, and trying to see what he could come up with. My Chile concert shows that he could make it work...and it certainly worked fine when I saw them in Greensboro during this tour. Speaking of annoying, Sting takes a bite of something like a powdered donut during the show and the lingering powder at the corner of his mouth is funny and annoying. Even rock gods can look silly. Then again, maybe this is why this video is not in wide production...I'm sure Sting was quite pissed that they payed for a video crew for this show and ended up with powdered sugar on his face! Overall, with no other DVD's readily available, I am glad to have this one. While I thought the Synchronicity concert was awesome when I saw it live, looking back at the DVD, the earlier iterations of the Police were much more organic in terms of the music and the band's interactions on stage.
Good DVD for big fans..........2007-08-04
This probably wouldn't be the biggest hit with the more casual fans, but it is a nice show to have for the bigger fans who want as much as they can get from a favorite band. Being one of the people who want to see and hear all that I can, I loved it. However, if you're more of a casual Police fan, go for the Synchronicity concert first, and then try to catch the bootlegs and such.
Only a Transitional Period for The Police!..........2007-07-27
It's been said that The Police is coming in August to play again in Mexico, but the first time was in 1980 when I saw a concert of The Police Live in the city of Mexico, playing the songs of their then latest album "Zenyatta Mondatta". The gig was a real spontaneous magical moment. Everybody were exited as the songs gone bye with the high driving energy of a ¡trio!: Stewart Copeland, a maravellous rhythmic drummer owner of a great technic; Andy Summers, a creative guitarist who's powerful cool chords where the perfect asset for the band's arrangements; and Gordon Summer (who is known better as "Sting") with an enigmatic personality, amaze for his bass lines that gave good melodies to the Rock Genre.
The Ghost in the machine concert is a transitional musical stage for The Police Guys; it's a little strange gig for the way that sting performs in the stage while he's eating a pineapple or playing the taurus pedals out of time in the first track "Message In A Bottle" (the Taurus pedals' idea is good) or the adition of a keyboard next to Andy Summers' side that he almost never played, but overall the music is really fantastic and well played by the band. The horn section is a great asset for the support of the songs, and it's a more natural way to enrich the music of a Rock group. I really prefer to see The Police this way than in the last Atlanta's concert with less Rock and roll feel. I'm not a die hard fan, but at least in this concert their effort is more apreciated in songs like "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", "Spirits In The Material World" or "Invisible Sun", where we can realize about the difficulty to present and perform overdubbed studio material that It's not the same in a live situation. Great!... By the other side the perform of songs like "Don't Stand So Close To Me", "When The World Is Running Down..." or "The Do Do Do The Da Da Da" are amazing without forget the classic songs of their first and second albums like "Roxanne" or "Walking in the moon". So Good Luck!...
For Die-Hards Only.......2007-03-28
I was actually at a show from this tour and it seemed a lot better than represented here.
This is cool for a time capsule, and there are some okay performances of some songs, but they're undercut by the bad mix and iffy camera work.
Oh, and then those horns. Thank God THAT idea never took hold after this tour. Eeesh.
The only thing worse than the horns was Sting's foot-synth which he uses on a couple of songs. The effect, in a word: tragic. It sounds more like a car alarm than a good musical idea.
Far, far superior is the Synchronicity concert--buy that.
AND wait for "Police Around the World" to come out on DVD. That is the best document of early Police and has killer performances from all over the world.

Customer Reviews:
I Feel Dead People.......2007-08-03
When I first started watching this DVD, I was initially rolling my eyes at the fact that there were no one but clairvoyants on the investigating team. Being a die hard fan of TAPS (Ghost Hunters), I couldn't see how anyone investigating the paranormal in this day and age and with the technology available, could base their investigation solely on what someone is "feeling". That is not evidence, that's supposition. They do use temperature gauges and of course, the video recorder is readily available. But by the time I got to the episode entitled "From Beyond", I was beginning to understand the appeal of ISPR a little better. Some of the results of their investigations were very impressive, but still not irrefutable enough to make me swallow it hook, line and sinker. If nothing else, the DVD is highly entertaining and the sincerity of the individual members of the team is without reproof. When all is said and done, the team members absolutely believe in what they are seeing, feeling, and hearing, whether or not the rest of us still remain somewhat skeptical.
I was very glad to see Peter James on the team. I have seen him on many other programs on the paranormal and he was amazingly accurate in his investigations. So at least there was one clairvoyant on the team that I felt familiar with and it lent a bit more credibility to the others on the team and to the show as a whole.
I do think the inclusion of an investigation on Jack the Ripper was unfortunate though. There is more than enough overkill of information about the Jack the Ripper that is just too readily available to make their investigation plausible or even necessary.
I recommend this DVD if only to experience an alternative mode of investigating the paranormal. It is well done, informative, and interesting.
One of the best.......2005-10-10
for those interested in the topic, this is one of the best documentaries on the subject. For those who see black or white with no gray areas and demand definitive proof that ghosts exist, don't waste your money. You're either a believer or a skeptic. I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary and found the investigators to be credible. Well worth the price of the DVD.
Where's The Science?.......2005-09-20
As our society continues to progress in the area of inventing new equipment which may provide a breakthrough in the understanding of ghosts and hauntings, groups like the one in this video force this field to take a giant step backwards.
Subjective (as opposed to scientific) investigations are just that: subjective. I would never accept as proof, and sometimes even find laughable, the results of a bunch of "psychics" who let their creative imaginations run wild. If one believes in mediums and all that, fine. But we are now out of the Victorian age and into advanced technology. Some of their antics are simply laughable.
This video needs to be countered with one done by a REAL investigative team. I found it laughable and any of their findings unbelievable. Belgrave Hall especially deserves better then this.
Not very exciting.......2005-09-12
This is a documentory style video that has it's ups and downs. Although it has its moments of believability it also has moments of contradiction between the many psycics visiting the areas around england. There is a story about a man who lost his wife that is very heartwaming and enjoyable. An good choice for someone interested in psycics and the scientific side of ghost hunting, but not a good choice if you are just looking for a scare.
LAME AS HELL!.......2005-07-15
I love ghost story, as movies or documentary and so on...because all these hip an all and stars, I go head and got this DVD. Was a cheesy and lame documentary I ever seen about %90 of this documentary was damn talking to each other and show lame places. And their acts & was a lots talking and B.S!! If u really like this kind of documentary, try to check out UNSOLVED MESTRY series: TITLE "GHOSTS" & "UFO'S".. Is superior to this trash!
Skip this lame boring crap!!! Waste the money!

Old habbits die hard :-).

waste of money.......2007-09-15
I read the reviews on this movie before i bought it. And i was led to believe that it was going to be good. But all it was, was a bunch of interviews, and a guy saying a ghost took over his body and which his acting was fake. And you can hardley understand anything they are saying cause the sound quality on the movie is bad. So it's not worth geting at all.
Be Prepared to be Scared.......2007-09-11
I love nothing more than a good ghost story, but this DVD takes it up several notches. You get to watch a group of England's top paranormal investigators spend time in a very old building as they experience a real encounter like no other. As a couple other reviewers have said this is not for little ones or the faint of heart.
Philip Gardiner does it again..........2007-09-10
I must say that I wait anxiously for each new Philip Gardiner release and this latest one does not disappoint. Having a close connection myself with spiritualism made this dvd a real treat. A lot of dvd's in this genre don't ever seem to get down to the heart of the matter, but this one really hits the bullseye. This guy is a force to be reckoned with.
This Ain't No Blair Witch - That's For Sure.......2007-08-24
The finale of this DVD practically made my heart stop, scared the pants off me. My impression was that this team of "paranormal investigators" got themselves in a little too deep and bit off more than they could chew. Having said that, it takes place in a very old mansion in York (UK) and you can literally feel the vibes from the place in this film. Really enjoyed this one.
When They Say It's Real, They Mean it!.......2007-08-24
I've always loved the romantic notion of old London (as many of us are I'm sure) I loved the fact that it was filmed in one of the oldest places in England - the town of York. As it turns out it's the most haunted general area in all of England, so when a team of paranormal investigators descend upon this haunted mansion one night they get way more than they bargained for. This DVD will scare the pants off anyone. Not for children.

Description
In the silence and the black dead of night comes a whisper, faint, barely perceptible. It sighs, then rises in the darkness and blows past your face, suddenly, caressing you with the icy fingers of death. It disappears into nothingness, leaving you with only the terror and the knowledge that this, truly, is a haunting. Aidan Quinn (Legends of the Fall, Benny and Joon), Kate Beckinsale (Much Ado About Nothing) and Sir John Gielgud (First Knight, Gulliver's Travels) lead the all-star cast in this chilling adaptation of the classic James Herbert novel. When David Ash (Quinn) investigates a haunting at an isolated country manor, strange and horrifying occurrences lead him to first doubt his convictions and then his sanity. As the sordid history of the estate's family is revealed, and David falls in love with Christina (Beckinsale), he begins to see the ghostly image of a young girl calling out to him from an unearthly terror he could never have imagined.
