Exclamations of religious awe are in order. Legendary and long sought-after, this live Led Zeppelin collection is nothing less than the rock music equivalent of the Holy Grail. Quite simply, this is what all the fuss was about.
Given that they were the biggest band in the world, Zeppelin were notoriously camera-shy in their heyday. Their official filmic legacy until now has been just the fascinating but flawed The Song Remains the Same. While this new set presents some previously unseen footage from the same 1973 Madison Square Garden gigs, its real wonders lie in the earlier (1970) Royal Albert Hall footage and the later Earls Court (1975) and Knebworth (1979) concerts. Everything here looks and sounds new-minted, thanks to painstaking restoration and remastering of both audio and visual sources, a Herculean labor of love on the part of co-producer Dick Carruthers working hand-in-glove with Jimmy Page. Trawling through thousands of yards of previously unseen film and unheard tape recordings--some with missing visuals, some with missing audio--Page and Carruthers have chosen only the best possible footage available. They were also at pains to make the segments segue seamlessly so that the viewer is treated to what feels like a continuous concert--just sample the transition from a grainy Super 8 "Immigrant Song" (Sydney, 1972) to "Black Dog" at MSG.
Highlights? It's not hyperbole to say that every powerhouse minute of this collection (some 230 minutes of concert footage plus another hour and a half of extra DVD material) is a rare musical and visual treat. But hearing Page's violin bow work on "Dazed and Confused" in DTS or Dolby 5.1 is an experience not soon forgotten. --Mark Walker

Stairway to basement........2007-09-14
No fancy words to impress you with, the video was simpley and poorly done. Thank You
Zeppelin is the greatest.......2007-09-05
Led Zeppelin is the greatest band ever formed hands down, and this dvd proves not only their genius but their perfected playing of their instuments. With Bonham's irremarkable beats and johnn paul jones steady hand they set the tempo for robert and jimmy to just unleash a spectrum of brilliantly mashed together sounds. So if you like to get the Led out then this is definately the DVD for you.
Great DVD!.......2007-08-23
Upon receiving the DVD, I found the package professionally designed. The way the disc was designed to make any song accessible was really well done! All the footage was well enhanced and really allows the viewer see the kind of performance the band gave. In some cases the sound was lower in quality but it was probably because that was all they had to work with; still quite an accomplishment. What I really enjoyed was the extra footage from TV performances the band gave in other countries. They were a rare treat. I'm sure I will enjoy this package for years to come.
whole lott of videos .......2007-08-12
wow a zeppelin dvd this is everthing u need right its almost like the kiss video r the doors coolection u see the band at there ppower with over 2 hours of videos concerts and interviews by this amazing dvd video u wont be upset
Just like when I saw them in the 70's.......2007-08-04
This DVD is awsome I saw them in the 70's and it brought back so many memories..If you did not get to see these guys it will be just like you were..These guys are ROCK GODS..I LOVE THEM..So this is a must see. It's worth every penny Jimmy Page did an excellent job..The only thing I can say is it looks much better on my computer than tv.But that is probably because the film was so old. Other than that this is The best next to being there. GREAT JOB JIMMY
Customer Reviews:
Not Led Zep at their very best.......2007-09-13
I'm not going to say anything about this DVD upgrade before it's released, obviously we're all expecting a lot. I will say however that in terms of the film itself I never thought it reflected Led Zeppelin in their best light. The concert itself was not Led Zep at their best (Jimmy Page himself has commented that "It wasn't a magic night"), and the fantasy sequences were just plain dull, even by 1970's stangards. It was especially frustrating that classic Zep tunes like "The Ocean" and "Over The Hills And Far Away" were sacrificed in order to accommodate the meandering self indulgence of "Dazed And Confused". The song was much more powerful in the band's earlier days when they performed a shorter version at their concerts more in common with the original studio album.
I don't want to come across as if I'm bashing Led Zeppelin, I love the band. I was thrilled when the two-DVD set came out with the Royal Albert Hall footage so that fans could finally see the band in their glory. I think a lot of fans remember The Song Remains The Same film with nostalgia, especially since there was (and really still *is*) so little "official" concert footage of them commercially available. Many will buy this more for that reason alone, even though it is *not* Led Zep at their very best. But it is still at least *something*, and of those people who will buy for that very reason I too will be among them.
A movie of its era........2007-08-31
I have grown up listening to all the Led Zeppelin has to offer. With the upcoming re-release of this psychedelic film and respective soundtrack it gives die-hard Zeppelin fans and newcomers a chance to relive what Led Zeppelin is all about.
I also have a question to those who know. The recent releases are confusing to me and I'm hoping this isn't a dumb question. Is this Limited Collector's set the one that includes the DVD and soundtrack along with the original artwork t-shirt and bonus memorabilia? Just wondering.
PLEASE STOP "REVIEWING" A RELEASE YOU DON'T HAVE YET!.......2007-08-30
Why do you people insist on 'reviewing' a release you don't have yet? And won't have for months?
I do wish Amazon would close the reviews for this until the release date (NOVEMBER 20th!) hits.
I can't think of anything more lame than to start awarding stars to a movie you don't even own.
Wait to Watch and See it Before you Bash..........2007-08-27
To Old Quad...
From all the info I've been hearing, this release is going to be a major upgrade. We're talking sound and picture quality on par with the LZ 2-Disc DVD. And that is amazing, let me tell you. That surround sound speaker effect, BTW, is only available if you have the correct speaker set-up, and lots of money to get good speakers, so surround sound or not, if you're just watching through your TV speakers, it ain't gonna matter.
I've put in my pre-order already and can't wait until November! However, It seems (and this is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) the main vid itself will be the same as the original, only remastered in sound and picture. We do get something like 40 or more minutes of extras, so that will probably include all the other tracks and such. Though I'm hoping that's not the case (and if it isn't, I'll delete this review and put it back up with a full 5 stars), that's what I and others are assuming considering the original vid was 137 minutes, and this is only 138 minutes. But that could also mean the fantasy sequences were cut (since a sizeable portion of them were shot without backing music... I think... :D) and it's just live footage. Of course, I loved the fantasy sequences from the original (you can see my review under the TSRTS DVD already available... 5 stars for the concert, 5 stars for the fantasy bits), but it would be nice if this was just the show(s).
Can't wait for the release and to see how I end up changing this review...
Sound Remains The Same. No DTS or Original Surround Mix!.......2007-08-27
I am a big fan of Led Zeppelin having seen them live in 1977 a year after this film was released. We'll have to wait and see what the final audio on these Discs contain, but if it only has a regular Dolby Digital 5.1 mix as what has been widely reported, then Led Zep has blown it again IMO. Most people don't even consider sound quality anymore when listening to music even though we have better technology today. Regular Dolby Digital is the equivalent to an MP3, very Lossy sounding and crap compared to DTS or DVD-A at 24 bit / 96 kHz. I still own the original VHS, Betamax and DVD versions, and those are stereo, certainly Not the great discrete aggressive surround sound mix I remember hearing in 1976 at the theater. I remember in the theatrical version with the proper speaker set-up Jimmy Page's guitar feedback bouncing back and forth throughout the front and rear speakers along with Robert Plant's vocals on "Dazed And Confused." Totally awesome. That original theatrical mix is one of the "holy grail" Quad/surround mixes from the 1970's and it looks like we're never going to be able to hear it again.

For Led Zeppelin fanatics, this 1976 feature The Song Remains the Same is a treasure of searing live performances, particularly welcome in light of the sad scarcity of such visual material from the band's great decade. Despite the group's road weariness after a long tour, their final, three-night stand at Madison Square Garden in 1973 was full of the old power. Performances of "No Quarter," "Whole Lotta Love," "Black Dog," "Dazed and Confused," and "Stairway to Heaven" underscore Zep's charisma. Trouble is, you don't get an unbroken performance here. Viewers have to wade through a mishmash of documentary insight into the lives of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones, as well as fantasy sequences supposedly inspired by the thoughts and fantasies of the band's individual members. It's mostly garish and silly, but there are some nice elements, especially insights into the late Bonham's life. The DVD doesn't offer much in the way of add-ons (a theatrical trailer is about it), but there is also enhanced viewing for 16 x 9 televisions. --Tom Keogh

The Zep at Their BEST.......2007-09-01
Led Zeppelin never got any better than this. There are videos of their '75 and '77 tours as well as footage from the Knebworth festival, but this band peaked in 1973 and for those of us who fell out of love with the band by "In Through the Out Door" and Plant's wretched solo material, this video is a great reminder of why Zep was a sold out huge arenas and sold millions of albums.
My faves are the title song with it's great 12-string and 6-string mix,John Paul Jones "No Quarter",the BEST solo on "Stairway to Heaven" available and an excellent show closer which I won't name in case you haven't seen this yet.
This is how it should be and how this band should be remembered.
Pure Zeppelin.......2007-05-07
I am biased because i love Zeppelin and have done for over 30 years but Song Remains the Same is just a fantastic insight into the band and an awesome display of live music. Not many bands sound better live than their studio albums but Zeppelin pull it off, from Plants awesome vocals to Pages screaming guitar this album just blows you away!
A product of its time..........2007-04-03
In some ways this film was rendered obsolete by the 2003 Led Zeppelin 2-disc dvd set, in terms of Led Zeppelin live on video. Shot at the end of the 1973 Houses of the Holy US Tour over several nights in Madison Square Garden, the Song Remains The Same had been shelved for a few years and only managed to get released when lead singer Robert Plant's car accident sidelined the band for a year. The concert footage finds the band a bit spaced out and exhausted at times in terms of the performances (although I suppose buggering daft teenage runaways and consuming vast quantities of booze, coke and smack will tend to do that to you); a nearly half-hour version of Dazed and Confused becomes particularly pondersome about 7 minutes in. Combined with the live footage were fantasy concept sequences, most of which appear to have been directed by 1st year film school students tripping on mescaline. Only John Bonhams really works well. Still, it is an unapologetic display of the debauchery, confidence and mystery that Zeppelin evoked at the time - just not really some of the band's best performances.
Led Zeppelin DVD.......2007-01-09
The Song Remanis the Same DVD - Super DVD - it Rocks!
Fascinating...In its way.......2006-11-28
What can you say about THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME--or Led Zeppelin for that matter--some 30 years after the film's release? Everybody pretty much knows where he (or she, but let's be honest, we're mostly talking 'he's' here) stands on all things Zep. For those who never saw the band live (like me), it certainly gives you a taste of what that experience was like. But then, I'm told that the DVD more recently compiled by Jimmy Page did a better job at that.
But still, this performance film/cum documentary/cum pre-MTV video fest captures an era in the group's history and our own in its own unique fashion. I was never an ueber-fan, so maybe it's not really for me to say, but I, for one, did not come away from this film feeling too disappointed.
Some maintain that SONG really would have been much better had it simply been a performance film, with no pretensions. But actually, there have been VERY few pure performance docs historically. Even the best concert films (THE LAST WALTZ,say) usually throw in a least a few documentary elements, a la WOODSTOCK. And it can give the viewer a better sense of place (here NYC) and time (1973). The documentary elements give some flavor of the rock'n'roll life as it was lived by both musicians AND fans. And it does so more by presenting random clips of backstage life than by interviews. It speaks volumes to me that in one scene, security is letting a couple of kids sneak backstage with a proverbial nod and a wink, and in another, someone--who may have been a little drunker, more high or otherwise more disorderly--is being chased down like a (black)dog.
And all those shots of the NYC skyline in 1973 register in a very strange way in these post-9/11 times. Those towers were pretty new back then.
As for the much reviled "fantasy" sequences. Well, I admit, I'd probably prefer to see more live sequences myself. But they really do serve as a precursor to the video-era (and you'll recall that the first videos weren't exactly big budget spectaculars either, so having Robert Plant in medieval garb ride around on horseback for a couple of minutes or having Jimmy Page scaling a mysterious mountain, only to meet up with a mysterious warlock (who looks, again mysteriously, like his own bad self) is scarcely any sillier than what was being broadcast 24 hours a day on "Music Television" a few years later. As a bridge between psychedelia and the MTV era, THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME is an invaluable document.
Besides would a full length performance film really have been everything some fans seem to imagine it could have been? I don't think so. At some point, I concluded that the cinematographer must have had a mad crush on Robert Plant. The shots of his, uh, torso were getting a little monotonous. And poor John Paul Jones is all but ignored in the live shots. He gets a few moments where he's fingering the fretboard, before the camera action is once again lovingly diverted back to Page and Plant. Well, they were the showmen after all. And this was quite the show.
For good or ill, depending on your point of view. At the time, as I recall, I was just purist enough to think that I could have done with less 'show' and more of the musicianship I knew the group was capable of. But looking at the film in 2006, I'm more "que era, era." It was what it was. And it's worth a look.

Can't wait for this release! .......2007-09-17
I am just as excited about this dvd as I was the Led Zeppelin 2 dvd set in 2003. The fact that it will have songs not included in the original movie makes it even better. Of course I preordered the collector's edition for the cd soundtrack included, and it just looks better! I wish the Beatles' company Apple would offer more dvd releases like this...
The Sound IS DTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-09-13
Rest assured that this DVD will have DTS sound - the same as the previous Led Zeppelin concert DVD set. Jimmy Page has been working on this project for years. Do you HONESTLY think he is going to throw something substandard together at this stage of the game? It will be fantastic!!!!!

THIS RARE JULY 1977 CONCERT PERFORMANCE SHOWS LED ZEPPELIN IN TOP FORM. .......2007-03-08
I will be writing a review on the legendary unreleased DVD concert entitled "LED ZEPPELIN KINGDOME, SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, JULY 1977 PRO SHOT" by one of Rock's greatest legendary bands. I give you one of England's pride and joy's, THE MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. This legendary unreleased concert clocks in at 210 minutes, in color and contains good picture and sound quality of the famous unreleased LED ZEPPELIN DVD concert from July 1977. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary concert or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
I have heard about this legendary LED ZEPPELIN concert for many years. I finally was able to purchase this concert and see for myself if this concert was as great as I had heard it was. To my surprise, This is LED ZEPPELIN in top form and gave a blistering performance at the Seattle Kingdome in Seattle, Washington in July, 1977. This show actually took place before the Oakland, California performance on July 23, 1977. I saw the first show on 23 July 1977 at the Oakland Coloseum, it was not one of their best performances but it was a good performance. Actually, the Seattle performance was much better than the Oakland performance. Sadly it would be during and after the Oakland performances that catastrophe and tragedy would befall the MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN. It would be at the Oakland Coloseum where the LED ZEPPELIN CONNECTION would take place resulting in the beating of a Oakland Coloseum security guard by four of ZEPPELIN'S entourage including Tour manager Richard Cole, ZEPPELIN manager Peter Grant, a ZEPPELIN roadie and ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham. After all four were arrested, fined and received one to two years probation, their next stop would be New Orleans where major catastrophe and disaster would strike. Robert Plant would find out that his son Karac would die from a deadly virus. Plant would board a plane back to England and the rest of the tour was be postphoned and cancelled indefinitely. The performance I'm about to review for you is one of the last and remaining final shows that LED ZEPPELIN would ever perform on American soil. Thankfully, someone videotaped the Seattle, Washington performance in July 1977 and is now available on DVD. In my opinion, its a wonder that this concert was not included on the LED ZEPPELIN two-DVD disc set concert collection from 2003. This concert would have made an excellent addition to that DVD concert collection. Who knows, maybe Jimmy Page has ideas of releasing this concert at a later date. In my opinion, this legendary concert is a true testament of the power and superb skills of a band that truly played great live and a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band that was indeed, far ahead of their time. I also have a LED ZEPPELIN bootleg on a Two-CD set recorded live in Cleveland, Ohio 1977 entitled "DESTROYER." This was not one of their best performances either but not bad either. This perfect stereo soundboard recording does contain some great moments that does resemble the performances of both Seattle 1977 and Oakland 1977. And now, without further delay, it is now time for me to take you back in time to LED ZEPPELIN'S blistering performance at the Seattle Kingdome in Seattle, Washington from July 1977.
Now it is time to let the music speak for itself and do all of the talking. This legendary concert begins with the incredible fast paced Rocker "The Song Remains The Same," the breathtaking killer Rocker "Sick Again," the merciless Rocker "Nobody's Fault But Mine," the fantastic electric acoustic Rocker "Over The Hills And Far Away," the slow Blues classic "Since I've Been Loving You," the slow mysterious mystical Rocker "No Quarter," the slow energetic Rocker "Ten Years Gone," the mandolin and acoustic filled number "The Battle Of Evermore," the vibrantly acoustic and mandolin filled "Going To california," the soulful acoustic Rocker "Black Country Woman," the heartfelt stomping Rocker "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp," the incredible Page composition from THE YARDBIRDS days "White Summer-Black Mountain Side...," which unfolds into the legendary merciless Rocker "...Kashmir," the rare performed Rocker "Out On The Tiles..." which works its way into the Bonham drum solo "Moby Dick," the fabulous Jimmy Page "Guitar Solo...," which unfolds and evolves into the ZEPPELIN Rocker "...Achilles Last Stand," the forever ZEPPELIN trademark slow turned fast classic Rocker "Stairway To Heaven," the forever ZEPPELIN breakthrough Rocker "Whole Lotta Love," and the forever ZEPPELIN trademark groundbreaking sizzling Rocker "Rock And Roll." May I also add that Jimmy Page's guitar playing was burning hot on fire that night. Robert's lead vocals were a little strained but he still gave a blistering performance. John Bonham's perfect timing would tell the story and solidify and bring together the ZEPPELIN sound that the band would forever be known for. John Paul's perfect bass patterns would be the solid foundations that would give ZEPPELIN its powerful bass sound. Combine all four of these important music elements together and you will hear some of the greatest Rock n' Roll music you have ever heard. This 1977 performance was one of the rare nights that LED ZEPPELIN was on fire burning hot and rose for the ocassion and gave one of their more blistering performances. I am just glad and thankful that someone captured it on video.
Overall, this is one hell of a LED ZEPPELIN performance worth seeking further into and checking out especially if you are a devout ZEPPELIN collector or a ZEPPELIN diehard like myself.
I would like to highly recommend to all of the ZEPPELIN collectors and diehards to purchase this legendary rare ZEPPELIN DVD concert performance if you can find it. This legendary DVD concert is a hard to find gem. However, this concert is available through Amazon.com. This legendary concert performance will definitely prove to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This legendary concert performance is one DVD concert that all devout ZEPPELIN collectors and diehards would not want to be without.
In closing, LED ZEPPELIN'S Seattle, Washington July 1977 concert performance would mark one of the final shows that LED ZEPPELIN would ever perform on American soil. Sadly, the next LED ZEPPELIN Tour that was supposed to kick off in Chicago, Illinois in 1980 would never happen due to the untimely death of ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham. With that, LED ZEPPELIN would die with him and the band would disband and be laid to rest forever. So here's to you Robert, Jimmy, John Paul and the late great John. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. LED ZEPPELIN FOREVER. R.I.P. JOHN HENRY "BONZO" BONHAM. R.I.P. LED ZEPPELIN (1968-1980). Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

It is a great performance however the one shown here is unofficial and should not be available on Amazon.
Maybe Jimmy Page will release it for real one of these days.
Led Zeppelin Playing Good!..........2007-06-07
Although This DVD Zeppelin concert is from 1975 and has good quality image and sound, it results interesting by the material that the band plays on stage. It's not easy to play more than three hours but they did very well. It's true that the listening of the voice of Robert Plant is something eroded and rough but the emotion is still there and the musical skills of Jimmy Page, John Paul Johns and John Bonham are really great. Never before seen live tracks in any other video like "Over The Hills And Far Away", "Kashmir" or "In My Time Of Dying" are great surprises as wel as this fabulous version of version of "Black Dog". It's true that this DVD isn't the best of all Led Zep's videology but you can enjoy the music... The music programme is:
Rock & Roll, Sick Again, Over The Hills And Far Away, In My Time Of Dying, The Song Remains The Same, The Rain Song, Kashmir, No Quarter, Tangerine, the acoustic set: Going To California, That's The Way, and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp; Trampled Underfoot, Moby Dick, Dazed & Confused, Stairway To Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog. ...Good Luck!
THIS IS THE BEST QUALITY AVAILABLE OF THE FULL EARL'S COURT CONCERT DATED 24 MAY 1975. .......2007-04-24
[..]I will be writing a review on the legendary historic live DVD concert entitled "LED ZEPPELIN - ZEPPELIN EXPRESS - EARL'S COURT 24 MAY 1975" by one of Rock's all-time greatest legendary bands ever. I give you one of England's pride and joy's, the one and only, THE MIGHTY L-E-D--Z-E-P-P-E-L-I-N! This legendary DVD concert has never been officially released in its fully completed version. However, this DVD concert was unofficially released recently on the Apocalypse Sound label with improved overall sound and picture quality and contains the EARL'S COURT 24 MAY 1975 concert performance in its fully completed entirety. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary DVD concert or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the overall best informative and most accurate review possible.
LED ZEPPELIN has forever given us some of the most memorable legendary all-time greatest live shows and concerts in Rock n' Roll history. Little did all of the fans know that many of their concerts were filmed and videotaped for posterity purposes or for future release at a later date. The "LED ZEPPELIN" DVD that was officially released in 2003 contained and showed only highlights from the legendary concerts such as "LIVE AT EARL'S COURT 1975" and "LIVE AT KNEBWORTH 1979. With the exception of the fully completed "LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL 1970," many fans were left wondering if "EARL'S COURT 1975" or "KNEBWORTH 1979" would ever be released in its fully completed version and restored in its entirety. The "LED ZEPPELIN - ZEPPELIN EXPRESS" DVD concert performance I'm about to review for you now is an updated version and a further look into the legendary "EARL'S COURT 24 MAY 1975" concert from the 1975 tour. This particular version has good and much improved sound and picture quality but is not as good as the quality on the "LED ZEPPELIN" 2003 DVD release. However, this particular version contains the concert in its fully completed and restored entirety. In my opinion, "LED ZEPPELIN - ZEPPELIN EXPRESS - EARL'S COURT 24 MAY 1975" is a true testament of the legendary live performances that would forever give LED ZEPPELIN their incredible reputation as great live performers. This live DVD concert is also a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band that was truly indeed, far ahead of their time. And now without further delay, it is now time for me to take all of you on a journey back in time to LED ZEPPELIN'S legendary blistering concert performance in its entirety at the famed EARL'S COURT in London, England, 24 MAY 1975.
It is now time to let the live Rock n' Roll music of the mighty LED ZEPPELIN to speak for itself and back it up by doing all of the talking musically. This blistering LED ZEPPELIN concert performance begins with the "Nicky Horne Band Introduction" which than roars into the merciless hard Rocker "Rock And Roll," the breathtaking Rocker "Sick Again," the groundbreaking Rocker " Over The Hills And Far Away," the forever amazing Rocker "In My Time Of Dying," the fast paced hard Rocker "The Song Remains The Same," the slow and beautifully romantic electric Rockin' live version, "The Rain Song," the forever blistering Rockin' version of "Kashmir," the slow Rockin' killer version of "No Quarter," the slow and beautiful electric live version of "Tangerine," the unbelievable acoustic live versions of the songs "Going To California," "That's The Way" and the "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp. After the acoustic set, LED ZEPPELIN would blast off with the powerful soulful and funky Rocker "Trampled Under Foot," the completed and fully restored in its entirety, the powerhouse drumming of John bonham, "Moby Dick," the wild and mysterious slow turned fast hard Rocker that is at least thirty three and a half minutes long, "Dazed & Confused (Including Woodstock)," the slow and beautifully mysterious and mystical live electric Rockin' version that would forever become LED ZEPPELIN'S trademark classic song, "Stairway To Heaven," the hard Rockin' and hittin' classic "Whole Lotta Love (Includes "The Crunge," "Sex Machine" and "Turn On Your Lovelight.)" and the a*s kicking hard Rocker "Black Dog." In seeing this complete concert in its entirety, please believe me when I tell you that this concert performance is without a doubt, LED ZEPPELIN at their absolute best! I'm really surprised that these performances were not included on the 2003 DVD concert collection release. Jimmy Page was burning hot and on fire that night so much that the stage was sizzlin' when he danced and slid his way from one side of the stage to the other. His guitar playing arrangements that night was incredible and he delivered some of the greatest guitar licks and riffs that he has ever played. Robert Plant was also on fire that night hitting and delivering the high vocal ranges perfectly and entertained the fans to his fullest potential. John Bonham was steamin' red hot that night as well. Bonham not only kept the timing of his drumming perfect, but he combined and solidified the band in perfect harmony resulting in him delivering some of the greatest drumming ever. Bonham's powerful merciless drumming is one of the main contributing factor's that would give ZEPPELIN its legendary reputation as great live performers. John Paul Jones was also burning red hot with his incredible bass patterns that would forever give the band its musical foundation. Put all four key elements together and you have some of the greatest live Rock n' Roll music that you have ever heard. All four were caught and captured at their very best on that magical evening and thank God that someone videotaped it professionally for a possible future release. THIS IS LED ZEPPELIN AT THEIR ABSOLUTE BEST!
Overall, this is one live DVD concert worth checking out and seeking further research and information into but for hardcore diehard ZEPPELIN fans and collector's only. I would not recommend this DVD concert yet if you are a newcomer or a new beginner to the sound and music of LED ZEPPELIN. I highly suggest that you buy and listen to all of their studio albums first, then watch the movie "THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME," then buy the LED ZEPPELIN DVD concert collection released in 2003. After that, if you want to go further into the live ZEPPELIN concert performances, then purchase this rare live DVD concert performance along with the "LED ZEPPELIN LIVE AT THE SEATTLE KINGDOME CONCERT" DVD from July 1977 and the live "KNEBWORTH 1979" DVD.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this rare legendary DVD concert performance in its entirety for the devout ZEPPELIN collector's and hardcore diehard fans only. This legendary DVD concert has already proven to stand the test of time due to its importance and popularity and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one great collectible DVD concert that no devout ZEPPELIN collector or hardcore diehard fan would want to be without.
In closing, LED ZEPPELIN will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history as being "THE TRUE GODFATHER'S OF HEAVY METAL!" LED ZEPPELIN has already forever left their place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and will never be forgotten. Their reputation as being great legendary live performers would set the stage with new rules for the many great legendary acts and bands that were soon to follow. LED ZEPPELIN were a very special foursome that took all four's unique and special blend of musical tastes and styles to create the ultimate sound and music that would forever give the mighty LED ZEPPELIN its trademark and legendary reputation as great live performers. Knowing this, the mighty ZEPPELIN blimp would fly and ride high shaking the Rock n' Roll world to its very foundations and thus resulting in shaking the whole world with it. As much as I hate to say this, all good things must come to an end. The mighty ZEPPELIN blimp would eventually come down for the last time and the band would sadly break up and disband in 1980 due to the untimely death of ZEPPELIN co-founder and drummer John Bonham. When Bonham died, LED ZEPPELIN would die with him and be laid to rest forever. With that in mind, one of Rock's greatest stories and chapters would come to a close. AS SO IT SEEMED. LED ZEPPELIN would receive the highest ultimate honor of being inducted as members of the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. The LED ZEPPELIN legend and legacy will live forever as long as music as well Rock n' Roll music will always be around. So here's to you Robert, Jimmy, John Paul and the late great John. JOHN BONHAM LIVES! Thanks for reading my review and I truly hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have truly enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that all of you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. LED ZEPPELIN FOREVER! R.I.P. MR. JOHN HENRY "BONZO" BONHAM. R.I.P. LED ZEPPELIN (1968-1980). Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

Whole Lotta Great Footage, Great for Die Hard Zep Fans.......2007-08-25
What is so interesting and amazing about this DVD is the footage showing the band members who would become Led Zeppelin before they came together and when they did, covering their history up to the release of their second album Led Zeppelin II.
Seeing Jimmy Page perform in The Yardbirds, seeing Robert Plant, John Bonham, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page perform in the earliest days of Led Zeppelin - this is the kind of footage that an avid fan can really get into.
The DVD covers and shows clips of the musicians who had the greatest influence on Page and Plant, as well as a couple of songs where that influence was used on a couple of songs on their first and second albums.
I honestly would only recommend this DVD to a die-hard Zeppelin fan. I don't think it would have the same impact on the casual listener, and I honestly don't think it's geared toward the casual listener.
[From the back cover] "This DVD is NOT authorized by Led Zeppelin or individual band members thereof, or their estates, their representatives or any record of publishing company associated with the release or ownership of Led Zeppelin's music."
It is very tastefully done, balanced and fair - I don't get the feeling of any ulterior motives - as the people who shared knew the band members before and during the formation of Led Zeppelin.
It's 70 minutes long - and I was glued to the screen the whole time. No boring footage here. I really enjoyed it. But it's the kind of DVD I don't feel the need to watch again. If you love Led Zeppelin, I think you would get more out of the DVD Led Zeppelin LED ZEPPELIN.
If you're a die hard fan as I am - by all means this is an excellent DVD.
This other linked DVD Led Zeppelin is a MUST BUY - Can't count how many times I've watched it and will again and again.
Thanks for the Info.......2006-08-13
I enjoyed learning about the members before Led Zeppelin and what they've done and hearing the people they played with talk about them. The DVD includes what is billed as "The Hardest Led Zeppelin Quiz in the World Ever". It's far from hard. The DVD looks into the past of each band member before becoming Led Zeppelin. It also looks into the first few albums, tracing some of the songs' "roots", so to speak. Pretty good, although I've seen better. Hard core fans *will* buy it, newcomer fans *should*.
