Customer Reviews:
Great set from legendary band........2006-09-28
This is a great set from a legendary band. I would recommend this DVD to any New Order fan. For ages, they have been one of the most consistent outfits in modern rock. Every release, be it a video or CD, is always top notch. One other thing though... I find it hard that someone like the reviewer below would be a "die-hard" fan of Joy Division, but never knew that New Order was the name the band chose when they decided to carry on without Ian Curtis. That just really sounds downright silly. No "die-hard" fan would have missed that bit of information. A casual fan that proclaims to be die-hard...well, maybe.
Stop the screaming, end the dancing!.......2006-08-20
I give this DVD 3 stars only because I happen to be a great fan of New Order. Otherwise, this would have gotten a much lower rating. Minus points for Bernard Sumner's egoistic stage character (which does NOT compare to Ian Curtis' electrifying presence), especially for his uncalled-for spontaneous screams to the audience. I mean, it's great he's enthusiastic about being back in front of a live crowd, but c'mon, you're a rock legend for Pete's sake! Sumner should play the part by at least giving subtle hints of excitement.
Which leads me to another disappointing turn of events: Barney's dancing. Sumner is recognized as the great innovator of sound in the band; a legendary figure in that he helped revolutionize music not just once, but twice. I half-expected one of the Promethean founders of rave to be a cool dancer. Well, inasmuch as I still have the utmost respect for Bernard Sumner, the dancing bit was just too much.
Peter Hook still mesmerizes with his "lead-bass" playing style, and of course, Stephen Morris rips through each song with his cool drum playing as usual. Not too many features on the disc, purely a musical presentation of the Finsbury concert.
Great music, what else do you need........2006-06-23
I bought this dvd being a pretty big New Order fan, and was not sorry I did.The music is great, the sourround mix is great, and the video quality is great! Not to sure what to make of some of Bernards on stage antics but hey,its a top rate production and any NO fan should, must own it!
Bernard should quit screaming.......2005-12-09
GREAT DVD!! Lots of songs and my favorite Joy Division songs as well. I still think the best person in band is Stephen Morris, he hasn't aged at all (Maybe he gained an extra pound or two). But whats with the crouch grabbing from Peter Hook (BASS LEGEND, who I still am in awe when I watch him play Transmission on the New Order Story DVD)? Overall the DVD is a must for the true fan, but could Bernard stop screaming in every song, especially Ceremony? He sounds like a child being crushed by a bulldozeer. Buy it and see for yourself!
Signs of Aging, But N.O. Can Still Deliver.......2005-08-24
I'm not necessarily a huge New Order fan, but this DVD is definitely worth the money. The band covers its "must hear" songs plus some of the newer material, which is quite good considering how long N.O. has been around. They've gotten quite a bit older, but they can still deliver as if these songs were written just yesterday - and it looks like they're still having fun!
