Description

Fronting his eighth All-Starr Band, the cheerful singer and drummer brought new direction to a concept that's served him well since 1989. Filmed live at Casino Rama in Toronto, Canada - All Starr 2003 members are John Waite (The Babys, Bad English), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Paul Carrack (Squeeze, Mike & The Mechanics), Sheila E. (Prince), Mark Rivera (Billy Joel.) During this summer 2003 tour, Ringo Starr allowed a cameraman to follow him and the All-Starrs throughout the course of their travels for the first time ever! This DVD is your ticket to an unscripted, uncensored and unprecedented look at a Rock Legend at work -and at play, behind-the-scenes footage brings you up close and personal with the boys - and girl - in the band. Join in with Ringo as he gets a little help from his friends on classics like Honey Don't, Boys and Yellow Submarine! Plus, experience an All-Starr take on 80s Hits like Mike & The Mechanics' graceful Living Years, Sheila E.'s funk-pop Glamorous Life and Men At Work's cult favorite Down Under.

3 out of 5 stars Nice Souvenir.......2005-05-27

I enjoy this DVD as a souvenir of having seen this concert.

The backstage footage was inconsequential, I use the skip button a lot when I watch it.

The lineup wasn't stellar, but this was a really fun show

5 out of 5 stars Highly enjoyable.......2005-04-06

Best live concert I have ever seen on dvd, excellent sound, excellent musicianship, good songs, nice feeling all the way through, Ringo's best performance ever and best all-starr team so far. I have watched it at least 50 times and will continue to watch it. Thanks Ringo!

5 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable DVD.......2005-03-04

This was actually my first Ringo DVD. I've only had it for 5 days and I've seen it 3 times. It's a very refreshing experience being a Beatles fan as well as an 80's music admirer. The performances were great however the crowd was somewhat too silent during the concert. I'll try the other DVD's as well. I strongly believe its a great buy!

This DVD has great music, though not radically different from Ringo's previous tours. I do, however, have a problem with all the extra footage that was thrown in. I wouldn't mind as much if it were only once in a while, but the concert is interrupted after every song! I can't stand it! I also can't stand the poor camera work during the concert footage. You keep seeing the same angles too often...perhaps not enough cameras were used. My advice would be to skip this one and buy the CD release of the tour. It has the same music but with no interruptions, and no lousy camera work.

Hey guys, yes, John Waite is no John Entwistle on the bass and Collin Haye is no Joe Walsh on lead guitar, but what this 2003 lineup did have over previous lineups is the fact that this is the best vocal lineup that Ringo's had yet. I love Simon Kirke (I'm a huge fan of Free and early Bad Co.) from a previous All-Starr lineup, but you have to admit, Sheila E. is a better drummer overall. The comraderie and genuine affection this latest lineup has for each other and for Ringo are awesome. Ringo doesn't look tired, by the way, as some review claimed below. He always looks like that when he plays the drums, be it in 1964 on TV, in the "Let It Be" movie or the promo videos and concert footage we've seen after The Beatles.
I'm a bassist, and Ringo's 2003 lineup on this DVD is far from shabby. Most bands would love to have this kind of "first night," which is the band's first show as seen on the DVD. I can't believe people nitpick about Collin's solos and stuff. Collin's a fine guitarist, and a great singer and writer, by the way.
