Avishai live.......2007-08-14

I had a privilege of watching the Avishai trio when they performed live in South Africa in 2006. His passion and skill on the base was quite an experience. So I decided to look for his live DVD recordings on Amazon. This recording is, to my opinion, a mixed performance. I am not happy with the "rock 'n roll" feel of some recordings. It appears the artist has not quite determined and connected with his target audience. I guess it might be a challenge trying to excite a mixed crowd and thus tend to stray a bit from the jazz principles. It is a nice DVD. My friends who are not into jazz really enjoyed it and are looking forward to buying copies for themselves. Good!

Really good.......2007-04-27

This is a great band with cool tunes and it's well captured. The bass is mixed a little too heavy but that's gonna happen when it's the bass players band. Avishai's sound is different and unique. If you like it, this is a great representation of his live show.

Great music - poor camera work.......2007-05-21

I must first state that the music and musicianship is of a great quality - the final track really does it for me - my only complaint is that the camera work is poor - the filming is distant, so a lot of the live vibe is lost and we buy the dvd to catch th vibe - there are no close ups of the rest of the band plying their trade.
All said this is still a worthwhile disc to add to your collection - its not everyday that Arturo agrees to private shows!!!!!!

Great Concert.......2005-06-14

I have read a couple of reviews that indicated that this is not Arturo's greatest work, but this performance cannot be approached like his CD recordings.

I have been to two Arturo Sandoval concerts (William and Mary, Christopher Newport University), and they are an experience nothing like a CD (I would know, I have eight of them signed by the man himself). He loves to mix in his love for piano and percussion playing. He loves to feature his bandmates. He loves to sing. He loves to get the audience dancing and clapping. This shows in this DVD!

His hair color may have gone grey, but Arturo displays some of his classic trumpet expertise as well as his other truly amazing talents with the energy of a 29-year-old.

My only complaint is the less than stellar camera-work and lighting. It detracts from the experience a little, but not significantly.

As a side note, my wife and I were overjoyed to see that this is the same performance he did at Christopher Newport University because we so wanted a video of their performance of Surena!

Impressive, Particularly for their First Live Concert DVD!.......2005-11-25

This DVD captures the essence of this dynamite group's live shows. Fans across the country have been begging for this and I have to say, the 'P - Crew' have outdone themselves. It's great to see musicians who are approachable and genuinely like their fans. The footage of their Mid East travels was especially touching and in places, downright hilarious. The bonus CD included with this package was a nice touch. Possessing their previous four CD's, one can see how this Kansas City band has evolved and grown into a future force to be reckoned with. Listening to their new music makes a person excited to hear what their next round of music will be. Word has it they've got a full length album coming out in 2006. I know I'm going to be first in line buy it! They definitely are a band you need to see!
