The most phenomenal recording in rock & roll history is thoroughly examined in Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon. The Floyd's 1973 masterpiece remained on bestseller charts for nearly 14 years, and its enduring importance is honored here by all four members of Pink Floyd and key personnel (engineer Alan Parsons, mixing supervisor Chris Thomas, sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, and others) who played essential roles in the landmark album's creation. Produced for the Classic Albums series that originally aired on VH-1, this thorough and thought-provoking study highlights a track-by-track dissection of the LP's master tapes (including the spoken-word passages that bookend the album), superbly interlaced with archival footage, early demo tapes, concert animations, and latter-day acoustic performances by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright to demonstrate each track's contribution to the final mix--a sonic exploration that extends to the illuminating bonus features. Informative interviews abound (including Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke), and much-deserved credit is given to saxophonist Dick Parry, solo vocalist Clare Torry, and former Capitol Records chairman Bhaskar Menon, who fostered the album's U.S. commercial success. For Floyd fans, musicians, and studio technicians alike, this is a must-have addition to any DVD library. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" Classic Album is the creative story behind the masterpiece: "Dark Side Of The Moon". "Dark Side Of The Moon" transformed Pink Floyd from art house favorites to global, stadium superstars. Prior to 1973, Pink Floyd maintained a relentless gigging schedule and by the time they came to record "Dark Side Of The Moon" had already created many of the basic tracks. "Dark Side Of The Moon" would be the first Pink Floyd (post Syd Barrett) album where Roger Waters would supply all the lyrics around a concept: The Circle of Life. With the timeless qualities of its production and musicality, allied to the hypnotic evocation of its central themes - alienation, paranoia, madness, war and death, "Dark Side Of The Moon" would become the album that would dominate the 70's and 80's (with a record number of 741 consecutive weeks in the Billboard 200). This program takes an in depth look at the making of the 1973 album. All four members of the band Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright are featured in exclusive interviews. Roger, David and Richard play songs and demonstrate themes from the album. Alan Parsons (the original engineer) takes you through the multi track tapes giving a unique insight into the musical fabric of the record and the program is illustrated throughout with archive footage. "Dark Side Of The Moon" with its combination of great songs, inventive effects and one of the best known sleeves ever, tapped into the world's collective subconscious and became a landmark in Rock history and a truly Classic Album. Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" Classic Album is the creative story behind the masterpiece: "Dark Side Of ThThanks for all your help.e Moon". "Dark Side Of The Moon" transformed Pink Floyd from art house

You won't "fritter and waste" money on this. Essential documentary........2007-09-09
First, the director of "Live At Pompeii" prob. had no idea at the time that he was filming one of the best selling albums of all time. The footage, filmed in the same studios The Beatles had recorded their classics just a few years prior, show Pink Floyd working (prob. aware of the cameras) on songs we now know by heart. The director had also said that what was in the movie was all he had.
Unfortunately, there is little concert footage filmed, there are bootlegs, but as far as a full length concert, it's either been lost in time (strange considering how multimedia focused they were), or you'll have to settle for "PULSE" and "In The Flesh" and somehow edit them together. Or still hope they do the one show together.
One thing Gilmour and Waters have been great about are doing interviews about Pink Floyd. Nick Mason and Rick Wright also contribute to the story of how this album came together. We learn that this was something they worked out on the road and that the actual studio time wasn't all that long, it was just a matter of PF getting studio time in.
We also get Alan Parsons explaining his part in putting the album together, by no means a small part. Add to that each of PF playing parts and dissecting the songs, and a demo of "Money".
The documentary is under 90 minutes, which is the right amount of length you need to cover the story behind making this album. AND there's bonus footage, so any fan of Dark Side of the Moon will want this. I've watched it more than once, so to me it warrants a purchase and not a rental.
I do hope one day for a "Dark Side of the Moon" DVD because there's enough footage to do it.
The best in the Classic Album DVD Series.......2007-09-04
I have watched several of the Classic Album DVD's, including Steely Dan/Aja (which is excellent, and probably my favorite band/album), The Who/Who's Next (which is OK), and Cream/Disraeli Gears (which even though I'm a big fan, was not that great). Anyway, this one, Pink Floyd/Dark Side of the Moon is by far the best. It just grabbed me and had me mesmerized from start to finish. The scenes with David Gilmour playing solo electric and pedal steel versions of Breathe, and Us and Them are so amazing, I can't even find the right words to describe it. Gilmour is hands down the best guitar player in the classic rock genre. I was also impressed with the solo piano playing of Rick Wright as he talked about coming up with some of the chord changes and turnarounds in Breathe and Us and Them. But, I think what really blew me away the most was the thoughtful and interesting perspective that Roger Waters puts on the whole project throughout the documentary. Watching this DVD has convinced me that it is definitely no accident that this album spent something like 741 consecutive weeks on the Billboard charts. Just remember, "there is no dark side of the moon, really, matter of fact it's all dark...." Grab this one, you won't be disappointed.
dark side of the moon.......2007-08-26
as if the album wasn't awesome enough, now you can get a good look at how the best album of all time was created with all the interviews from the band.
batcall.......2007-08-09
The Beatles opened the doors for rock'n roll, but Pink Floyd went from an RnB band to Progressive rock. This LP is their Sgt. Peppers. There are not too many living legends as great as this group.
Awesome!.......2007-07-30
The way this 'documentary' was put together is very slick. They blend/match the members of the band playing their parts of the music with archived footage from 30 years ago. David Gilmour and the others are very thoughtful in their memories/summary of the experience. A very classy tribute to one of the greatest, music changing albums of all time.
Description
Comprised of Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson, The Band's self-titled sophomore effort spent 24 weeks in the Billboard Top 40. The album was released at a time when the US album charts were taken over by the psychedelic rock movement, and despite this, the album had the aforementioned chart success and would go on to sell over one million copies. This edition of the "Classic Albums" series focuses on The Band's follow-up to "MUSIC FROM BIG PINK". Featuring classics such as "Up On Cripple Creek", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", and "Rag Mama Rag", the story of the album is told through interviews with surviving members of The Band, fellow musicians Eric Clapton, Don Was, and George Harrison, and vintage footage. The Band is a classic album!

DVD review.......2007-09-14
Very good comprehensive review on The Band. Gives good insight into the individual members and why some of their songs were written. A good addition to my collection.
the band.......2007-09-11
you've heard their music, now hear their words. this dvd gives insight into an extrordinary album of the early 70's; a release that was polar opposite to much of the musical landscape of the era. timeless tunes created by five talented musicians. the joy on levon helm's face is rich as he recounts how the harmonies of himself, richard manuel and rick danko were structured. an impromtu version of unfaithful servant performed by rick is just as emotionally poignant now, as it was on the lp. a couple keyboard demos by garth hudson is both pythonesque, and accomplished keyboardist, in it's scope. and with much less screen time compared to the last waltz, robbie robertson has a word or two as well. after viewing this dvd, cue up the band's lp on the turntable, or tray in the cd, and relive this great work once more!
A Great Band.......2007-08-04
After viewing The Last Waltz on the Sundance channel everynight it was on, I was hooked on learning more about this group. Their sound is classic and if you're into The Band you should buy this DVD if for no other reason than to watch the contemporary Garth Hudson play the organ. It will make you smile. Also, check out Levon Helm's book This Wheel's on Fire. An extremly interesting and realistic view of life on the road in this great rock and roll band.
Timeless music - well made documentary.......2007-07-06
This DVD has tracks from both The Bands first two albums. So you get some analysis of the first album (Big Pink) as well as the famous brown album. The reason being that they were all recorded at the same sessions.
Its a fabulous documentary, with great interviews and analysis at the mixing desk, perhaps most memorably Levon who still gets carried away with the music.
Little known gems like Whispering Pines are given added poignancy when Richard Manuels suicide is mentioned late on in the film. Sadly Rick Danko died a few years after this film was made. When you think that Richard Manuel, Rick Danko and Levon Helm all variously sang lead vocals, depending on the song, you begin to realise how unique this group was in its original line-up.
Garth Hudson improvises at the keyboard for the camera a number of times demonstrating one of his many talents. We also see him playing Soprano Sax with John Simon - getting that classic Band horn sound.
Although not discussed in the film, it is documented that Levon has a problem with Robbie, so Robbie gets little credit (if any) from Levon. I don't think the reverse is true, but the truth in these matters is always difficult to establish.
There is some great early 70's footage of the group playing at the pink house, plus the inevitable clips from The Last Waltz.
Various musicians, including Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Don Was extoll the virtues of the group and there are some interesting points made by Greil Marcus. Sometimes Marcus can be a little pretentious, but most of the time here he doesn't go to far overboard.
This is one of the best Classic Albums DVD's and I would strongly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about one THE most important Rock 'n' Roll groups to come out of North America (four of them were Canadian).
Note this is a documentary, so most of the time the tracks are interrupted by people talking. If you want a concert DVD by The Last Waltz....
Excellent Documentary of one of the Greatest Albums in History.......2007-07-02
This is one of those movies that I didn't want to end. It is that good. Seeing Robbie, Levon, Rick, and Garth look back at this album, and talk in depth about the making of it, was pure heaven. Seeing the joy on Levon's face when talking about Garth's playing put a smile on my face. I'm not waxing poetic here, folks. If you love the Band, do yourself a favor and get this DVD.

Customer Reviews:
A great behind the scenes dvd.......2007-09-08
If you like this album and are interested in the technical details of how it was made, you'll love this dvd. Nice footage of Brian sitting behind the mixing board listening to, and separating the tracks he and Queen recorded so long ago. The average person might find this quite boring, but it's very enjoyable from a musicians standpoint.
An Excellent, In-Depth Look at a Queen Masterpiece (4.5 stars).......2006-11-08
In 1975, Queen were a band on the rise. They just had a hit single with "Killer Queen" off the "Sheer Heart Attack" and were set to release their 4th studio album. "A Night at the Opera" marked Queen's breakthrough, which spawned 2 hit singles, one of them being one of the most popular singles of all time. This song of course was "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie Mercury's epic, 6 minute long operatic force. John Deacon also contributed a delightful pop hit with "You're My Best Friend." It wasn't just these two singles that made this album so classic though.
Brian May and Roger Taylor give excellent, detailed descriptions of the work that went into recording and writing many of the songs off the album. "Death on Two Legs" was Freddie's heavy opener, and the DVD takes an excellent excerpt of a Mercury interview where he describes the idea behind the song. Brian May goes through his song structures and writing techniques for "The Prophet's Song", "'39", "Good Company" and "Sweet Lady." Roger Taylor explains the drum-work for "I'm in Love With My Car." However, John Deacon doesn't participate in any interviews, and Roger and Brian discuss how he wishes to live the "quiet life." If you are a Queen fan, this is great footage of the band members detailing the work done on these songs, and along with in-depth analysis and summaries of every song on the album, there are extras. Included is a live version of "Sweet Lady" at Hyde Park, Brian May's performance of "'39" and "Love of My Life", performed by Freddie and Brian.
This a worthwhile DVD if you are a Queen fan who loves this particular album, and are interested in how it was composed so brilliantly. Highly recommended to all fans of Queen.
A Great Companion for any Queen CD Collection.......2006-11-05
I'm a big fan of the 'Classic Albums' DVD series. As a fan, I'd rather see and hear about my favorite musicians' triumphs rather than their personal failures (ala' "Behind the Music"). If you're a fan of the group being profiled, you're going to enjoy the behind-the-scenes look at the making of their best-known album. I'm a Queen fan, and I thoroughly enjoyed this video.
There's a lot of archival footage of Queen's mid-70s stage act (though not of the footage shows the band in the studio actually recording their music). Brand-new interviews with both Brian May and Roger Taylor comprise the bulk of this DVD's running time. Brian and Roger are as soft-spoken and thoughtful as always and I've always appreciated their dry sense of humor. Roy Thomas Baker, the album's producer, also appears sporadically as do a handful of executves who were in power at Elektra Records when Queen were under contract there. (Elektra were Queen's American distributors at one time; I am surprised no one from EMI was interviewed as this was Queen's British label). There are some rock journalists and British DJs. A variety of minor rock celebrities (Nuno Bettencourt, Joe Perry) pop in but provide very little. Freddie Mercury, of course, only appears in grainy vintage TV interviews from the early 1980s. John Deacon apparently is letting his bass work speak for itself as he declined requests to be interviewed for this project.
There are many, many highlights to both Brian's and Roger's interviews. Brian, in particular, gently reminds us that although 'A Night at the Opera' was considered Queen's breakthrough album, it really exists in a continuity of musical styles and techniques going back to Queen's first album. Brian plays us excerpts of 'March of the Black Queen' and 'Procession' to bring the point home. It's always a delight to see Brian play his Red Special guitar (or an Ovation) to make a musical point, and Brian freely credits Freddie Mercury for authoring some of Queen's heaviest riffs. It's also a treat to hear Brian's solo acoustic takes on both '39' and 'Love of my Life.' Roger shares a wonderful story in which Groucho Marx gave his blessing to Queen's appropriation of the Marx Brothers' film title to their album, and its an anecdote that isn't often retold.
There are also a series of 'extras' which were apparently cut from the TV Special version of this DVD. For what it's worth, I would have prefered if these sequences were simply re-edited into the continuity of the video. Still, they are great to have and the DVD is stronger for their inclusion.
If you're a Queen fan (especially of the 1970s material), you'll definitely want to own this DVD. While Queen experts may already know most or all of the stories included here, it's a great tribute to one of rock music's most adventurous bands.
A Cool Masterpiece!..........2006-10-02
It was really a pleasure to see this DVD and realise the renewed personalities of drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May. If you remember after that Freddie passed away (RIP), they were really in a dark, gloomy mood. I don't remember their tranquility and peace of mind in an interview, since all happened, 6 years ago.
This DVD really is illustrative with an extensive analysis of the recording process song by song with Roy Thomas Baker and Brian May (I don't know if it had would been better to add the comments of Roy Thomas Baker about the making of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that appear in "THE MAGIC YEARS" vol. I), special Roger's drum demostration (almost a clinic!... If you aren't a drummer, with these tips you can understand better the Roger Taylor style), with good introspective interviews (and the reason of the John Deacon's disappearing of the musical scene), with people that lived the bankrup of the band in '74, and finally, the making of an extraordinary masterpiece: the A NIGHT AT THE OPERA album. It's interesting see the live footage and performances between one and another interview, and a good example of this is the live track "SWEET LADY" from the DVD LIVE AT THE HYDE PARK, '76... Good Luck!
very weak audio.......2006-09-07
I think their original intention was to give you an insight to the behind the scenes making of the album...what you end up with is a very light overview of what happened. Lacking the presence of Freddie and John Deacon...most of what you're hearing and seeing are assumptions and opinions of half a band. They really aren't sharing any secret studio tricks with you that hadn't been made available at earlier dates.
I agree with the other reviewer who commented....since when are Joe Perry...Nuno Bettencord and Ian Hunter considered Queen experts.....at least Ian was playing the same local London bar circuit back in the pre-fame days as Queen were..and was classified as "glam rock"..so they climbed up from the same streets.
I wasn't very pleased with the audio.....very weak output.
My bottom line opinion is: The remainer of Queen are just cashing in on anything they can use to generate more income. This video is just a trip down memory lane with some of the people involved in the making of a great album. Just as they are doing by touring with Paul Rodgers and billing themselves as Queen and Paul Rodgers....They need to come up with a new name to represent their project...Queen died when Freddie did....and John Deacon pretty much made his mind known when he refused to be a part of any further musical projects. Sometimes you need to let go and move on.
Description
There possibly isn't an album in history that is as genre defining as NIRVANA's "Nevermind." Released in 1991, it single-handedly was responsible for the birth of what became to be known as grunge and has gone on to sell over 8 million copies in the US alone.
"Nevermind" was the second album from the Seattle trio and the first on the DGC label (it's predecessor "Bleach" was released on the Sub Pop label). It was produced by Butch Vig (also the drummer for the band Garbage) and mixed by Andy Wallace.
Nirvana's surviving members Krist Novoselic (bass) and Dave Grohl (drums) talk candidly about their past, the recording of Nevermind and about Kurt Cobain and the legacy that he has left behind. Also featured are exclusive interviews with the likes of Garry Gersh (A&R DGC Records), Butch Vig, Jonathan Ponneman and Nils Bernstein (Sub Pop Records), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Jack Endino, and many more.
Bonus features:
Drain You - the story behind the making of the track.
Going To Record In LA - The story behind why the band recorded Nevermind in LA.
Dave Grohl Joins Nirvana - The story of how Dave Grohl came to join Nirvana.
Polly (Live) - Polly live in concert.
Nevermind - The Album Sleeve - The story of the album cover including interviews with the cover star.
Track Listing (featuring excerpts from):
1. Smells Like Teen Spirit
2. In Bloom
3. Come As You Are
4. Breed
5. Lithium
6. Polly
7. Territorial Pissings
8. Drain You
9. Lounge Act
10. Stay Away
11. On A Plain
12. Something In The Way
Customer Reviews:
Great documentary about Nevermind........2007-08-19
This is a very enjoyable documentary perfect for any Nirvana fan. It talks about everything from types of guitars used on certain tracks, to where the cover photo idea came from. Fun to watch.
Like Butch Vig Analysis, Needs More.......2007-06-23
Was most interested in Butch Vig's track by track (track as in recording tracks, not album tracks) analysis of the album. Would've liked to have seen more of that, rather than just people talking about the album.
Nirvana: nevermind.......2007-01-10
I am a bit disillusioned because it is not the album, it is only the history
Witness history in the making.......2006-11-18
A look back at the making of the greatest album of all time, featuring interviews with former band members (excluding Kurt of course), rolling stone editors, record company executives and A&R guys and of course legendary producer Butch Vig. Interesting that Vig had no idea he would be in control of what would become the huge selling album Nevermind. You will learn a lot from this 70min documentary and be taken back to a time where grunge was born. You also get to see what effect grunge had on the market once this album was released.
More interesting/informative than I thought!!!.......2006-03-13
First of all, I didn't get this dvd new, I got it used.I looked at it and it seemed to be in good condition so I figured "why not save a few bucks on practically the same thing?"That way I wouldn't have to worry as much if it was a dud, ya see?
Anyways, the dvd was better than I thought, so I definitely got my moneys worth!!!Butch Vig was pretty cool talking about the tracks and tricks of the trade that were used for the album.I think that "Drain You" is not only one of Nirvana's best tracks on Nevermind, but on any of their albums, so I'm glad it was mentioned!!!Ofcourse I would've enjoyed it much more if Butch Vig had gone as in depth with tracks like "On A Plain", "Stay Away", "Breed" and "Territorial Pissings" as he did with the others.
I also really enjoyed hearing about how Dave Grohl entered the band, making them not only more successful, but also a more powerful, better songwriting band too!!!Dave Grohl truly was one of the best things that happened to be with/in Nirvana!!!Once again, it's not about success as much as it was about them finally finding the perfect, much better all around musician for Nirvana. He not only does incredible drum work with/in Nirvana, he also does great (background) singing, which is also talked about and demonstrated on this dvd.
Even if you've already seen this dvd with a friend, I still recommend that you get it.It's worth a second watch for sure!!!
(I'm also really interested in seeing one of these about In Utero though.I like it just as much as Nevermind and believe that it's just as significant, ya know?)
Description
Witness the very best of the Moodies music right back to the genius of the 1964 classic album Days Of Future Passed. We take you inside the workings of some of the most adventurous recordings to date with the unparalleled insights of the men who worked with the band: including Derek Varnals, Decca engineer from 1963-1980 and the man who mixed all but one of the Classic 7 Moody albums; Tony Clarke, producer of the Moody Blues between 1966-79 (as well as so many other bands!) and takes us back in time through the money and the madness, and Keith Altham was possibly the worlds most successful independent rock agent.
Customer Reviews:
Ok, for just a few unseen videos.......2007-08-07
Just arrived, and except for maybe two unseen videos, most of the info has been covered numerous times in other DVD formats, most notably the newest one by Classic Artists. That one had the approval of the Moodies themselves; this one I see is unauthorized (meaning who does get the money?). Loved the partial video of "Blue Guitar" and a 1986 rendition of "Nights in ..." I would say I only hope the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sees the last quote from "Keith Altham" where he does reiterate, "why aren't they in the Hall?"

Description
One of the most popular albums of all times, Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album "RUMOURS" spent 130 weeks on the U.S. Billboard album chart and won the Album of the Year award at the 1978 Grammy Awards. It has been certified for sales of 19 million albums by the RIAA.
The record almost wasn't made. John and Christine McVie were in the process of seperating, the relationship of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks was on the fritz, and the turmoil between the five members was high. These emotions were channeled into the songwriting process in Sausalito, California that became "RUMOURS". Featuring interviews with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks, along with the studio engineers and producers, "Rumours - Classic Album" tells the story of the making of this smash album.
Featuring the smash hits "Dreams", "Don't Stop", "You Make Loving Fun", and "Go Your Own Way", along with oft-heard tracks "Songbird", "The Chain", and "Gold Dust Woman" Fleetwood Mac's "RUMOURS" is a Classic Album.

batcall.......2007-08-09
Fleetwood Mac goes way back as a RnB band, but when Christine McVie, and Buckingham and Nicks, joined, they couldn't have made a better move nor better music. It's a shame that Stevie Nicks said she gave up on having children to keep Fleetwood Mac going, but that's on her head.
One of the best of the Classic Albums series.......2007-04-22
If you enjoy the music, the story behind the making of this classic is very interesting. You get to hear firsthand accounts on the breakups and how Mick is the glue that kept them together as they were all unravelling (and in the 80s, they would reconvene for "Tango in the Night" due to Mick's own unravelling.
It goes into the Peter Green era and how Lindsey and Stevie joined the band, the smash success of the self-titled, and this follow-up to it.
You can definitely see some bitterness in the sweet fruits of success they enjoyed, and some of "The Dance" is shown, as is some of the "Rumours" tour, and you can see Stevie and Lindsey's drama unfolding on stage at that time with looks that kill towards each other.
The songs are broken down by its creators, Lindsey shows off his fingerpicking skills (underrated as a great guitarist, but he's filled Peter Green's shoes which were big shoes to fill), Christine sets up shop where she originally recorded "Songbird" and performs it to an empty theatre, which still makes the hair on your arms stand.
If you want a rocumentary watch VH1.......2007-01-31
Very disappointed with this DVD. Like I said above, if you want to view a rockumentary watch VH1 alot cheaper. Description very misleading.
As Good As It Gets!.......2007-01-20
This DVD is a documentary on the making of the Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" album (as are all of the dvds in the Classic Albums series). This DVD is amazing! It chronicles the making of the album from the band themselves with new interviews, not just a compilation of old interviews mashed together. The original producers and band members dissect the original audio tapes to let you hear elements of the recordings that you may not have ever noticed before.
A MUST for any Fleetwood Mac fan.
The only drawback is the lack of DTS or Dolby audio.
not what expected.......2007-01-19
if you are looking for a concert type DVD this is not for you .
It is a story about putting together the album.

Description
CREAM was rock's first true "super group". Combining the extraordinary talents of ERIC CLAPTON, GINGER BAKER and JACK BRUCE, this power trio became the template for many hard rock acts of the seventies. The band remains a huge influence on the genre even to this day.
Powered by hits such as "Strange Brew" and "Sunshine of Your Love", Cream's second album, DISRAELI GEARS, moved the band beyond the blues into hard-driving, psychedelic pop. This was the album that not only broke the group in the United States but also established Clapton as an international superstar.
This addition of Disraeli Gears to the acclaimed Classic Albums series features brand new interviews with Clapton, Baker and Bruce, along with lyricist Pete Brown, Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, John Mayall and Manfred Mann. Also included on the DVD are acoustic performances, original studio tracks and archival live footage.
Tracklisting:
1. Strange Brew
2. Sunshine Of Your Love
3. World Of Pain
4. Dance The Night Away
5. Blue Condition
6. Tales Of Brave Ulysses
7. S.W.L.A.B.R.
8. We're Going Wrong
9. Outside Woman Blues
10. Take It Back
11. Mother's Lament
Bonus Features:
Additional interviews and analysis of the tracks.
EXCLUSIVE ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCES of "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "Outside Woman Blues" by ERIC CLAPTON.
EXCLUSIVE SOLO PIANO PERFORMANCE of "We're Going Wrong" by JACK BRUCE.
PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED FULL LIVE PERFORMANCES of "Tales Of Brave Ulysses" from the Revolution Club in 1968 and "We're Going Wrong" from Paris in 1967.

Why Clapton is God & Cream ruled .......2007-07-16
The Disraeli Gears lp or Buffalo Springfield Again ? I chose Gears, loved Sunshine and the flourescent cover
fit the zeitgeist(was a time a great cover broadcast it's content as the same). Beyond the folky Mother's Lament
it was wonderful to hear three masters explore rock. Too bad producer Felix Pappalardi is gone now.
The details recalled are deliciously presented; loved the flashes of female breasts and vintage pix/film(VH1 edits all, so PC). Have Hendrix's Electric Ladyland this series too, can't say enough for the research and presentation.
I listened with renewed interest to Dance the Night Away and Tales of Brave Ulysses, even dug out Pete Brown's
Battered Ornaments. Watching Eric replay specific classics was a true joy.
Just interviews and almost no performances.......2007-07-11
I just want to warn anyone who thinks that this DVD contains footage of Cream performing their songs that they perform just one song, "Tales Of Brave Ulysses" -- and you won't find it by watching the movie. You have to click on "Bonus Selections" to find it.
Otherwise, the movie is just interviews with band members and others reminiscing about the songs on the album.
An absolute must-have.......2007-07-05
I can't add to the superlatives which have been justly heaped upon this DVD. I only wish they'd covered Ginger Baker's composition "Blue Condition."
Great look behind the scenes.......2007-07-03
For anyone already familiar with this 'L.P', this documentary provides a lot of interesting information; I for one had no idea how much of a collaborative effort it was, in terms of songwriting credits, the art work and so on. For others not familiar with Cream or the late 60s, this may not really enlighten them very much as to the impact that this record had, or why it did. Nonetheless, there's lots of interesting material stuffed away on the 'extra features', including a drum lesson from Ginger Baker and some thoughtful reminiscences from Eric Clapton. Oh, and a steal at the price....
A "me too" for a fantastic disc.......2007-01-31
I am not adding much to what's already been written. I've listened to this album countless times in the past 40 years and always marvel at its brilliance. After all this time I finally learned how the LP got its title, what "Take it back" was about, and the real meaning of SWLABR...
I paid $11.99 in early 2007 and it was a phenomenal bargain.
One odd thing: they do mention Fresh Cream in the course of discussing Cream's history, but what is Wheels of Fire not even mentioned? Some of my favorite Cream songs of all time are on the studio disk. Maybe someday there will be another DVD focusing on that LP.

Awesome as always.......2007-07-20
I enjoyed this DVD as it showed them earlier in their career. The videos were awesome.
Nice Video Collection.......2006-01-13
This is a very nice collection of Moody Blue videos. I noticed that Amazon has no description of this DVD so here are the videos that are on it for anyone interested.
Your Wildest Dreams
Question
No More Lies
Sitting at the Wheel
Driftwood
Nights in White Satin (From Red Rocks)
Say it with Love
The Voice
Steppin in a Slide Zone
Gemini Dream
I highly recommend it for Moody Blue fans as some of this stuff like "Sitting at the Wheel" is hard to find!
Old Times, Younger Days.......2005-10-15
The cover is certainly misleading, but all the same, a great buy. All of the footage in this DVD is from 1992 and before, and it gives some insight to what the Moody Blues were like in their younger years. The digital mastering is done beautifully, thus the quality is great. I expected, judging by the cover, this DVD to be clips from various concerts, but it was so much more! About half of the tracks are concert clips, and the other half are music videos. It shows a side of the Moodies that some have never really seen. I recommend this, as well as every other Moody Blues DVD for your Moody collection!!!
Description
Released in 1987, this was the first post-Waters era record, and followed a lengthy court battle between the estranged Roger Waters with Dave Gilmour and Nick Mason as they tried to resurrect Pink Floyd from the wreckage that followed The Final Cut. Seen by many as a transitional album Momentary lapse was really the creation of Dave Gilmour as he tried to pull the band back together in a sea of acrimony. It may have received mixed reviews from the critics, but the album went on to hit Quadruple Platinum and created the platform for a hugely successful world tour. With rare archive performance and interview footage.

drawbacks and benefits.......2007-08-31
Fans love to hate these album documentaries. Most reviewers seem to torpedo these discs without a viewing. This is surprising given the actual variations of quality between the rockumentaries. Having always appreciated "A Momentary Lapse of Reason," curiosity got the best of me and I invested in this Rock Milestones album review. It is a mixed bag. In terms of drawbacks, it has a mediocre production. The commentary is often punctuated with scenes from the Eurovision broadcast of the 1989 Venetian concert. The transfer looks like it came from somebody's cheap VCR cassette. Equally poor are the music videos and the live scenes that show promotional footage. In fear of being sued, these scenes are always smeared with copyright information. Some of the graphics just show stills. The quality of the commentators is uneven. Some are never identified, most likely because they have no significance within the Floydian universe. In terms of strengths, the program spends the first fifteen minutes on "The Final Cut." Using radio and TV interviews, this part flushes out the story on a poorly understood time period for the band. All of this time with "The Final Cut" establishes the context that would eventually launch another reincarnation. The most interesting interview is a supporting musician from the first tour. He paints all sorts of vignettes of what it was like to be in Pink Floyd during that era. Another strength of the program is a solid retelling of the dynamics surrounding the infamous Venice floating stage benefit. While the video quality is weak, the audio quality is excellent. It even plays in surround sound with subtitles in six languages. This Rock Milestones production has drawbacks, but it's worth a watch for those Floydians who enjoy "A Momentary Lapse of Reason."
THIS IS NOT A CONCERT!.......2007-08-09
The reviewer who commented that this is a great concert is mistaking this with a video release of 'Delicate Sound Of Thunder'.
This DVD is a documentary and probably not worth your time.
Why is there not a Zero star rating?.......2007-06-17
I have always loved Pink Floyd. David Gilmour is in my 5 best/most
talented artists. I own every album, cd, and DVD and other material
I could ever get my hands on. I will buy most anything PF.
I pre-ordered this DVD, so it is too late for me. To make it clear,
this is a movie/documentary of "opinions" with some band footage.
This disk is in my mailed collection of hundreds of "AOL CD's".
I try to write some to give back to all the others that I rely on
to review artists I may be purchasing but be less familiar with.
I will be very careful before I purchase anything "Rock Milestones"
again.
If you are a PF fan, you already love Pulse, and Live
in Pompeii. If you are not a "die hard PF fan" and are looking for
an all around totally enjoyable representation of PF, buy the Pulse
DVD. You get an amazing show on disc 1, and the entire Dark side of the
Moon live on disc 2. PLEASE do not encourage companies that put out
trash like this by purchasing it. I am certain current nor past
artist members of PF had any involvement with the production or sale
of this disk that IMHO would actually be more useful pressed as an AOL disc.
Best Live Pink Floyd performance.......2007-06-10
I have the VHS version of this concert and have savored it for 20 years. It is, in my opinion, the best live concert of Pink Floyd (and just about any other band, with the exception of David Gilmour's solo DVD). I have waited for several years for this to be released on DVD and am buying it right now. It is two hours of Gilmour's flawless playing and singing with original members, Wright and Mason. The version of "Money" is too good. It even goes into a reggae beat in the middle of the song and the backgound female vocalists are superb!! If the DVD's sound is as good as the VHS version - What a treat.

The making and continued influence of Metallica's commercial breakthrough (known simply as "the Black Album") is entertainingly recounted in this must for Metallica fanatics, especially those who are interested in the recording of one of hard rock's most sonically breathtaking albums. Drummer Lars Ulrich, singer James Hetfield, and producer Bob Rock take up the lion's share of the interviews, and their reminiscences a decade after the fact include many juicy tidbits (like Ulrich and Rock loathing each other by the time the recording was finished, or that the final mix was nearly ruined by a digital clicking sound on the master tape--luckily, a successful remastering was done). The Dolby 2.0 Stereo sound is appropriately pummeling, even if we are treated to mere excerpts from the songs, videos, and even some of the original demos. Classic Albums: Metallica adroitly summarizes a pivotal moment in hard rock history. --Kevin Filipski
Description
The story of the making of this remarkable album is told here via exclusive interviews with band members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Jason Newsted, archive footage and performance, and contributions from producer Bob Rock. We revisit the original multi-tracks of the album, as well as listen to previously unheard demo recordings.
Featuring the five singles from the album, Enter Sandman, Sad But True, "The Unforgiven", "Wherever I May Roam" and "Nothing Else Matters", this is the compelling story of one of the biggest selling albums of all time, a true Classic Album.

An interveiw only.......2007-02-03
This is strictly an interview with metalica,It is not a music video so dont be fooled by the cover.I bought it and got screwed.
Alright.......2006-03-08
Its alright but i knew all the information ahead of time before watching it but u strongly recommend getting a year and a half in the life of metallica it has the same information but it goes more into detail and is alot longer
One Of The Best Music DVDS On The Market.......2004-11-01
Metallica's self-titled DVD on one of their albums, which is known as "The Black Album"( album is actually self-titled, but because the front and back of the album is all black, it earned it's reputation as "The Black Album")is one of the best music DVDS on the market. This DVD goes behind the scenes into the making of the album; there are interviews with band members James Hetfield, Jason Newsted, Kirk Hammet, Lars Ulrich, and producer Bob Rock. You get to listen to previously unheard demo recordings, and the five singles off of "The Black Album" are on this DVD: "Enter Sandman", "Holier Than Thou", "Sad But True", "The Unforgiven", and "Nothing Else Matters". I also enjoyed the exteneded interviews for the DVD, and it was very interesting when James Hetfield told the behind the scenes stories for when he wrote "Nothing Else Matters" and "The God That Failed". Hetfield also talked about how he and the band members in Metallica faced difficulties in their childhoods( parents getting divorced, family members dying)and how music was what guided them through all the tough times in their childhoods. If you enjoyed "The Black Album", you definitely don't want to miss the DVD.
The making of a great album.......2004-04-14
I actually got this dvd for my birthday, and i wasnt really sure if it would be good coz i'm not a huge fan of documenteries, but i gotta say i was not disappointed with it.
Although i would've liked to see maybe more of the video clips for the singles instead of just little clips from them it was interesting hearing them talk about songwriting and how they wrote the album etc.
It's also their 1st album with producer Bob Rock and he has some interesting things to say.
Some highlights are Kirk's solo on wherever i may roam, watching them at the mixing boards playing around with the sound and hearing all the seperate guitar parts, and all the little clips of their live shows. It also explains what inspired the S&M concert.
If you're a die-hard Metallica fan or interested in songwriting and good music, then i reccomend this dvd.
Decent DVD.......2003-06-06
I watched this at a friends and will probably eventually buy it but I have a few other Metallica videos I want to replace with DVD first.
First off, this DVD doesn't get ratings for the videos from the Black Album, it's a documentary...if you want music videos or sessions, buy A Year and A Half... There's no comparison between the two. ;) If it contained most of the same material, I think that would be a bigger waste of money.
