    2 out of 5 stars loved it.......2007-09-06

This DVD was great and included all of my favorite sketches with Chris Farley.

It has almost been a decade since he has been gone and I still miss him.

5 out of 5 stars Sadly Forgotten. .......2007-07-17

I don't hear too many people talk about Farley anymore and I think that is rather sad as he was a gifted performer. All of his best shticks are recorded in this DVD but it could easily have been two hours long. One hour does not do justice to the guy in my opinion. Yes, a lot of the great stuff is here such as his Matt Foley character, Bennett Brauer, and the Chippendales skit he had with Swayze. It's enough to heighten your appetite for Farley but not enough to fill you. His death was truly a shame. I think comparisons to Belushi are appropriate, but Farley never had the range or amazing talent of John. Nevertheless, we're worse off without the large fellow.

    5 out of 5 stars Hilarious!.......2007-05-09

These are absolutely the funniest skits he did on SNL and I laughed hysterically! I was really excited about getting this DVD and yet it was such a bittersweet experience when I watched it just knowing he is no longer with us.

4 out of 5 stars The Best of Chris Farley.......2007-05-07

The DVD was ok...I had just hoped it would have lasted longer...but it did bring laughter to my house and that was a good thing...

Whether he's playing a Scout Master seducing "Canteen Boy", a French teacher annoying his students, a Tough Guy or just talking about his famous "Schwetty Balls", Alec Baldwin is undoubtedly one of the funniest SNL hosts of all time. He's become a regular, playing in sketches throughout the years with some of the SNL greats including Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell. You're sure to enjoy some of Alec's hilarious celebrity impressions, such as Tony Bennett and Charles Nelson Reilly.

And if you've ever wondered what it s like to actually host SNL, you'll want to check out the DVD extras and bonus features, such as the audio commentary from Alec Baldwin himself as he comments on various sketches, as well as never-before-seen footage from dress rehearsals that never made it to television!

There's a reason Lorne Michaels keeps asking Alec Baldwin back to host Saturday Night Live: He's really good at it. Baldwin may have made his name in hard-hitting dramas like Glengarry Glen Ross and The Cooler, but SNL has long allowed him to flaunt his skills in stage acting and mimicry. In other words, he never gets flustered or seems at all concerned about making a complete ass of himself--the essence of good sketch comedy. As with such versatile performers as Christopher Walken and John Goodman (who appears in the boozy Bill Brasky skit), these qualities have made him one of the show's most popular hosts. Granted, some may fault the man for a few too many sketches built around the double entendre, like pastry chef Pete Schwetty and his tasty balls, but there's no doubt the guy can sell even the silliest of lines with the straightest of faces. As for his impressions, Baldwin's Tony Bennett--by way of John Travolta--doesn't just capture the legendary crooner's voice and mannerisms, but his unstoppable optimism, as well ("I love things that are great!" ). His squinty-eyed, stiff-necked Robert De Niro is another treat. (His fidgety Charles Nelson Reilly doesn't hit the same heights.) Aside from more than a decade's worth of Not Ready for Prime Time Players, including Mike Meyers, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell, The Best of Alec Baldwin includes two deleted dress rehearsal sketches and dishy, occasionally profane commentary from Baldwin and producer Marci Klein. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

5 out of 5 stars Saturday Night Live - Alec Baldwin.......2007-06-15

This DVD is HILARIOUS with the Canteen Boy skit, and the skit where Alec Baldwin is Charles Nelson Riley is priceless and there are so many more.

This is a must own DVD. You will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Hate his politics, but the man is talented.......2007-01-18

Really funny skits that are not dated, as many SNL skits become. A. Baldwin is a truly talented man.

5 out of 5 stars The Unofficial Cast Member.......2006-11-10

This was hilarious. I enjoyed every sketch. Truly, Alec Baldwin is an unofficial cast member.

    5 out of 5 stars Nobody's mentioning Greenhilly?.......2006-03-27

I remember Alec Baldwin's first SNL show very fondly, which included Greenhilly. Easily one of his funniest skits ever, I was extremely pleased when I saw it was the first skit on his best of DVD. Alec needs at least 2 DVDs of his own to really capture it all, but Greenhilly, the skit where he's a stranger blowing through a diner and it's almost all in innuendo, Schwetty Balls and one of the priceless Bill Brasky skits makes it more than worth the money right there. His impersonations are great. The writers love playing with his leading-man good looks to comedic advantage. And while I'm a fan of Fallon and Ferrell (and the Carol Burnett show) when they break character to laugh, I laugh just as hard because Baldwin *never* breaks character when he's got every right to.

I've only seen about 7-8 of the SNL best of's, but Alec's is by far the best of them all. There's a good reason that this is the hardest SNL DVD to find.

4 out of 5 stars Dreamboats CAN do comedy!.......2006-03-03

There is no more manly man, chiseled of jaw and steely of glance, than Alec Baldwin at his peak. This DVD is thus a double delight: we see him act well and handsomely in these sketches, and we get to watch him, time and again, play against type. There is a fair amount of homo-humor (Alec as the British prince's press secretary using every possible elaborate metaphor for buggery in a skit that Baldwin co-wrote; Alec as a predator to Adam Sandler's Canteen Boy), and a fair amount of silliness (Alec as an exacting high school french teacher, a PG-rated skit, has been a favorite of my family's since it aired). Alec hawking Pete Schwette's Balls on NPR is probably the best known skit ever to challenge the SNL actors to maintain their composure, and he pulls it off. The only Baldwin masterpiece not on the DVD is Alec as "The Mimic," another utterly silly piece that should not have been omitted. The DVD follows the typical format of others in this series and indeed of the show itself, beginning with a vintage monologue before moving into skits. Baldwin's excellent preparation (you never see him glance at cue cards), his swooning masculinity, and his penchant for the goofiest material that never causes him to break character make this DVD special in the Saturday Night Live retro series.

    5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-05-14

It was classic Carvey. I loved it. The only thing wrong was it wasn't long enough.

    5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-05-02

Carvey was probably the most underrated SNL member in history. He seems to have been overshadowed by his less talented (not an insult, he's great!) Wayne's World counterpart Mike Myers. I would love to see a volume 2.Carvey created some of SNL's most memorable characters- Church Lady, Garth Algar, George Bush, Hanz & Franz, etc... Definately a great pickup. The "Gerald Ford died today" sketch will have you ROLLING!

5 out of 5 stars Ross Perot only wishes he could do Ross Perot this good!.......2006-11-10

Dana Carvey was among the 2 or 3 most talented performers in the long history of Saturday Night Live, at least in my opinion.

His best work seems to age timelessly as seen in this highlight DVD.

His impression of Ross Perot is entertainment at its best!! No matter how many times I have seen it, I always enjoy seeing it again!

    5 out of 5 stars Can I Finish?.......2006-01-07

Dana Carvey is one of the funniest and most talented comedians to have ever appeared on SNL. Although his film career did not truly take off, like many other SNL alumni to follow, he is among the finest when it comes to comedic material and timing.

Best known for his impressions, his "Best of" DVD is loaded with them. George Bush, Regis, Jimmy Stewart, Ross Perot, George Michael, Johnny Carson, etc... Some of our old favorites are also revisited: The Church Lady, Garth Algar, Hans and a Grumpy Old Man. Whichever is your favorite, you will enjoy them all. This is some of the best material Saturday Night Live has to offer, courtesy of their best impressionist to date.

Also included on the DVD you will find Carvey's original SNL audition tape footage and appearances on Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien.

5 out of 5 stars Funniest of the 'Best of SNL' so far .......2005-01-28

In my opinion, out of the three SNl Best Of's that i have watched so far (Will Ferrell volumes 1 and 2, and Chris Farley) this is the funniest and best yet. Dana Carvey is a brilliant impressionist and is able to transform his own natural voice into anything he wants to. Whether it be The Church Lady, Hans, Garth, George Bush...etc. The other two Best Of's that i watched actually left out some of the more funnier sketches. I believe the sketches compiled into this DVD are the funniest Dana Carvey did. Also, the extras are great too. You can watch Dana's original audition for SNL, watch many outtakes, a sketch that was actually completely cut from the actual show, and his appearances on Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien. Highly recommended for Dana Carvey fans, SNL fans, or just comedian fans in general...Expect to be laughing to the point of tears in this great DVD!

    5 out of 5 stars Laughs A Billion.......2006-12-27

If you are looking for a good laugh, buy this DVD. If not just because you like Adam Sandler, get it for Opera Man and the little camping skit. IT IS SO FUNNY! I loved it!

3 out of 5 stars Keep Your Head Up.......2006-07-11

Adam Sandler is one of the best Snl cast members of all-time. This DvD serves up the Laughs. A few skits include Alec Baldwin, but that's the only bad part of this disc.

    5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2006-03-27

This is a great DVD.If you like Adam Sandler, you'll love this DVD.Not only does it have him,it has appearances by Alec Baldwin,David Spade and Chris Farley, just to name a few.Remember these old sketches?

Canteen Boy,The Gap Girls,Herlihey Boy House-Sitting Service,Zagats? They're all on this DVD.This is a must for not only SNL fans but any fans of comedy.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad. Lot's of great stuff missing.......2006-03-11

    Incomplete!

Despite the content in this DVD isn't bad at all, there is some other great stuff not included, like for example the saint patrick's day song, performed by Bono (A. Sandler's Bono, of course), or the sketch about the "pepper boy", which happens to be one of my favourites.
Also, the extras in this DVD are just stills of the video itself!? Is this suposed to be joke? Not Funny!!!
Anyways, if you do really enjoy Sandler's humor, you may feel dissapointed, not because of the choices included, but for those that were left aside. We need more in one DVD. Too damn short!!

    5 out of 5 stars Priceless!.......2006-02-24

This is so funny, that everytime i watch it, it feels like the first time. Adam Sandler is by far doing his best in this part of SNL. I love the whole thing. This is something you better watch!

Since the creation of Saturday Night Live in the 1970s, one of the signatures of the show has been its commercial parodies. From subtle to outrageous, silly to realistic, SNL has always been able to poke fun at the folks on Madison Avenue with a variety of products not actually for sale.

Now you can enjoy your favorite commercial parodies that have aired over the past 30 years all on one DVD. Watch classics like "Little Chocolate Donuts," "Happy Fun Ball," "Mom Jeans," "Colon Blow," "Trump's House of Wings," "Oops I Crapped My Pants" or "Schmitt's Gay" again and again.

4 out of 5 stars Great Previews for Adults.......2007-09-15

I found some commercial more funny than others. They were great to watch and to take certain products and advertise them which such unimagiable, disgusting and yet funny comedy. For instance, the rat posion commercial, the cereal commercial, and the baby commercial just to name a few. I have seen some of the commercial on SNL on TV.

3 out of 5 stars Good but not enough parodies from SNL's early years.......2007-09-12

Those of you who (like me) view the 1970's as the funniest years of SNL, will likely be disappointed by this collection. Only a small minority of the parodies are from the '70s.

This collection has John Belushi's "Little Chocolate Donuts" spoof of the Bruce Jenner/Wheaties commercial and Dan Aykroyd doing the "Bass-o-matic" parody; however, it does not include the "Shimmer Floor Wax" or "Mel's Charbroil Palace" commercials. Nor does this DVD have what, to me, was just about the funniest SNL parody of all time: The parody of the "Navy Adventure" commercials.

The Navy had a commercial, back in the seventies, that started out announcing a "Port of Call" in some exotic location, and then would follow sailors through the streets of Bangkok, Tokyo, or some other interesting place, while cool music played in the background. At the end of the commercial, the announcer said: "The Navy - It's not just a job, it's an adventure!"

So, in 1978, SNL did a parody announcing, "Port of Call: Bayonne, New Jersey!" While the cool music played in the background, the camera followed sailors swabbing the decks, peeling potatoes, scrubbing toilets, etc. At the end of the SNL parody, the announcer said: ""The Navy - It's not just a job, it's $96.78 a week!"

While this collection does not include the "Navy Adventure" parody, it does include some not-very-funny parodies from more recent years.

2 out of 5 stars Needed more classics... bottom line..........2007-08-09

The original release from VHS "Saturday Night Live Goes Commercial" was much better. This seems like "The best of Will Ferral commercials". Many greats missing... "Jewess Jeans", "Big Red", "Shimmer Floor Wax & Dessert Topping", "Velvet Jones", "Swill" and "Compulsion" to name a mere few...
Glad to see "Cluckin' Chicken", "Happy Fun Ball", etc. I REALLY wat to find "Action Cats". It's nice to have in the collection- no doubt, but there need to be a lot more classics. It's VERY heavy on recent and current casts.

3 out of 5 stars Mediocre At Best.......2007-05-28

The commercials have always been one of the greatest about SNL; They almost always made you laugh, and were in some cases the highlights of a so-so show. This is no best of. While 6 of them are indeed of the 'classic' status, there are many that just leave you shaking your head, wondering who put this collection together. A true greatest DVD would be several discs, and half of the ones in this collection wouldn't even be on there. Like so many SNL purists who have stayed with the show over it's long running career, I was disappointed that somebody didn't actually take the time to review the full archives; I know there are funnier commercials than the 'Corona Beer' take offs. Seems too focused on the last 15 seasons, and as we all know, there is so much more....and better!

    3 out of 5 stars Overall, a disappointment.......2007-03-08

I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Sleeman and S. Strasser-- where's the good stuff? I haven't watched SNL in years, but I'm old enough to remember the beginning, and the real classics. While there were definite moments (including the great Colon Blow), they were too few and far between--- and VERY heavily weighted to more recent years. The inclusion of Bassamatic is enough to earn its stars, but the Best of Aykroyd has Bassamatic; the Best of Radner has Hey You perfume; the Best of Murphy has Buckwheat Sings; and the Best of Belushi has Little Chocolate Donuts. The bris in the car was a forgotten classic included in this disc, but I agree: the exclusion of Shimmer Floor Wax/Dessert Topping is a tragedy. In the first few years, the ad parodies were brilliant--- so where are they? I was dearly hoping that they would also include the "Weekend Update-brought to you by" one-liners of the first couple of years, but no dice. (Nothing, but NOTHING will ever top Don Pardo saying "Weekend Update: brought to you by Pussywhip, the first dessert topping for cats.") They also can do without Will Ferrell's weak ad agency inserts. Just show the good stuff, which means they need to go back to the old days (I'll take Jewess Jeans any day over Mom Jeans). Those were innovative, clever, and really funny. Too many of the skits included here just weren't. This disc was a real disappointment (I'm glad I rented it and didn't buy it). Mr. Michaels, if you read the reviews and listen to the fans, you can easily produce another DVD that would earn 5 stars and lots of money.

4 out of 5 stars Molly Shannon SNL DVD.......2007-07-12

A great and funny DVD! I am very pleased with my purchase. She is so talented, and so enjoyable to watch. Specifically Mary Katherine Gallegher and Sally O'Malley. That's why I bought this DVD! I highly reccomend it!

5 out of 5 stars Don't get me started.. don't even get me started...........2007-06-27

In my opinion, SNL was at its tops when Molly Shannon was part of the cast. The way she portrays her hilarious characters keeps you laughing throughout the whole DVD. They put together a great compilation of her greatest skits, however, I was bummed when the DVD was over. I wanted MORE! Luckily, the bonus features, such as the Conan interviews are just as funny... especially the one about Gary Coleman! If you enjoy a good laugh then this is a great buy for you!

    1 out of 5 stars Disappointed .......2007-06-25

Very disappointed with this collection of Molly Shannon. There were so many more worthy skits she did on SNL. There was only one skit I enjoyed - the Sally O'Malley skit, but it wasn't the best of this series and probably inserted due to Danny DeVito's appearance rather than the quality of the skit.

The other skits were just not funny.

    3 out of 5 stars A good collection..........2007-06-03

This DVD is, of course, hilarious. Molly Shannon is one of the most talented performers to grace the SNL stage. I think they could have chosen some different skits, though. I can't understand why they chose something like the Blind Date skit over one of the Dog Show episodes or even the teen Goth show, I forget the title. Even though the DVD lacks, somewhat, it's a worthwhile purchase if you enjoy her work.

4 out of 5 stars All because my wife does a great "Helen Madden" "Mary Catherine Gallagher" and "Sally O'Malley"..........2007-04-02

I bought this for my wife last Christmas. She LOVES the above-mentioned characters and does great impressions of them. I have to say the take off of NPR with the Christmas "Schwetty Balls" is still one of the funniest SNL sketches I've ever seen. And sad to say that the DVD's last skit about dating was not one of the sketches I would have included. They should have replaced it with another one with Mary Catherine Gallagher. Don't get me started. ...Don't even get me started! But there is no doubt, Molly Shannon is one VERY funny woman (and so is my wife)!

The envelope-pushing cartoons created by Robert Smigel for "Saturday TV Funhouse" on Saturday Night Live are tasteless, crass, borderline offensive, and almost universally hilarious. This disc collects two dozen of the best, and viewing them together makes for a deliciously warped vision of Smigel and a relentlessly silly prism through which to view American pop culture. Case in point: The action-adventure heroes Ace and Gary, "The Ambiguously Gay Duo" (voiced, with deadpan earnestness, by Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert), are actually pretty unambiguous, but the joke is played just straight enough--while fighting to save the earth, they always allocate time to accessorize--and to pat one another on the bum for a job well done. In "Bambi 2002," Disney is roasted for its policy of pulling choice children's titles from the marketplace and releasing instead direct-to-video sequels that may not be up to the level of the original. In the "sequel," Bambi's mom is OK ("it was just a head wound, son"), and Bambi and his forest posse are hip-hop kids fighting terrorists in their spare time. "Remember, kids," the TV announcer intones, "it's all the Bambi you'll get for 10 years." Other highlights include the cartoon beauty contest "Are You Hot?" (in which Strawberry Shortcake beats out Betty Boop for sex appeal), and the black-and-white industrial training film "Sexual Harassment and You," which advises employees on the three rules for trysting with a co-worker while avoiding a sexual harassment lawsuit: 1. Be Handsome. 2. Be Attractive. and 3. Don't be unattractive. Elsewhere, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are skewered by their own words, and Michael Jackson reappears as a Hanna-Barbera creation--and still manages to be creepy. Extras include commentaries by Smigel, Carell, Colbert, Al Franken, James Carville, and others, as well as extra cartoon snippets and original art and storyboards. --A.T. Hurley

5 out of 5 stars Better Than Your Average SNL Special........2007-01-18

The comedy at Saturday Night Live comes and goes in spurts and currently (Jan. 2007) it is rare for an episode, let alone an entire season, to be all that funny. However, for over a decade there is one portion of the show that has remained consistently funny and that is when one of Robert Smigel's Saturday TV Funhouse cartoons air. The Saturday TV Funhouse cartoon first began showing up on SNL in the mid-1990s. The cartoons have always been a welcome break in the usual format of the show and when first seen brought a new dimension of comedy to the famed sketch-comedy series, the type of witty satire that first made SNL a staple of American culture.

THE BEST OF SATURDAY TV FUNHOUSE was a special that aired on SNL in spring of 2006. The special was a collection of some of the best Saturday TV Funhouse cartoons ever. From the Award-winning (I think it was even nominated for an Emmy) "Saddam and Osama" to the Ambiguously Gay Due and X-Presidents cartoon, THE BEST OF SATURDAY TV FUNHOUSE DVD is filled with hilarious, short snippets of satirical animation that both critique and comment on our society and culture. Some of the cartoons are nothing more than teasing nostalgia, such as the "Globetrotters Christmas" episode (found on the special features) or "The New Adventures of Mr. T." Others are clearly aimed at ridiculing powerful corporations in attempt to awaken public awareness, such as the many Disney parodies found on the disc--"Inside the Disney Vault" and "Titey" are the best of these--and the Schoolhouse Rock spoof, "Conspiracy Theory Rock" that shows the corruption of powerful media companies such as NBC. Other gems on the disc include "Smurfette" and "The Narrator That Ruined Christmas" and the delightful "Santa and the States" found on the special features.

There are many, many, many funny cartoons found on this disc. It's something that anyone whom is a fan of good SNL or satirical animation, e.g. THE SIMPSONS, SOUTH PARK, or ROBOT CHICKEN, will probably enjoy. I enjoyed almost all of the cartoons on the disc. However, I only purchased the disc because of one cartoon that is contained: "Fun With Real Audio Christmas". As Robert Smigel points out on the commentary, this is the most popular Saturday TV Funhouse cartoon of them all. The cartoon involves Jesus and the Peanuts, but its message is universal and isn't just limited to Christians are Charles Schultz fans. I remember watching the cartoon the first time it aired. Watching SNL was a rare occurrence for me then, but for whatever reason I saw the "Fun With Real Audio Christmas" and it stuck to me. Like the images from certain television specials, lines from popular movies, are snippets of overplayed songs, the cartoon has always remained with me. This DVD is worth owning for that one little cartoon alone and everything else is just bonus.

The DVD includes over an hour of extra cartoons, some of which are even better than the ones in the main feature. The entire main feature has a commentary mostly with Smigel and his chief animators. However, other guests, such as Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert, also comment at parts. Surprisingly, most of the extra cartoons also include commentary.

    4 out of 5 stars Outrageous.......2007-01-13

'A fine collection of cartoon humor as Robert Smigel attempts to offend everyone possible. Some of this is almost cruelly funny. I had seen most of these over the years and now enjoy holding them on one collection. The SNL "Best of Commercial Parodies," is a comparable bookend collection. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Own for Any SNL Fan.......2006-12-28

Saturday TV Funhouse has consistently been the best part of SNL for the past few years now. Focused, topical, biting, smart, and hilarious, Robert Smigel and company knock it out of the park on a regular basis. So naturally, when I saw that Universal was releasing a DVD of the special that Smigel prepared for an off week in 2006, I jumped at the oppurtunity to add it to my collection.

Simply put, it's one of the smartest DVD purchases I've ever made. Not only for the program, highlights of which include 'Saddam and Osama' and 'The X-Presidents,' but for the additional HOUR of extra cartoons (including the controversial 'Conspiracy Theory Rock') and the "All-Star" commentary, which is one of the best I've ever heard: it's intelligent, insightful, and funny in its own right.

This is a must own for any fan of Robert Smigel, TV Funhouse, or SNL period.

5 out of 5 stars Where is the first Michael Jackson cartoon?.......2006-12-22

...the one where he's trying to catapult himself into the kiddie pool in the compound and ends up reaming himself (to his delight) on the flagpole? The one with Marlon Brando? What kind of rights issues kept that one off the DVD, but not the second one that's in this collection. Also, I hope the Speed Racer parody with George Clooney and the Paparazzi can clear rights sometime in the future. Otherwise, an essential companion to the season sets, which won't be getting around to the Funhouse-era anytime soon--perhaps ever.

5 out of 5 stars Mostly hilarious and a great value.......2006-12-06

While Saturday Night Live certainly seems to have its periods of peaks and lows, a segment that is always a highlight when it is included on the program is the Saturday TV Funhouse cartoon shorts written by Robert Smigel. Short and subversive, every cartoon is guaranteed at least one laugh (and often many more).

This disc features a "Best Of" special that aired on television last season that runs for about an hour and a half, as well as about another hour of "bonus" cartoons. Highlights include the Ambiguously Gay Duo, X-Presidents, and Fun with Real Audio shorts as a whole, as well as the "Saddam and Osama" and "Inside the Disney Vault" segments. Also of note is the commentary by Smigel who is accompanied by guests pertaining to which short is being aired, ranging from Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert (the Ambiguously Gay Duo) to Al Franken and Mr. T. This runs throughout the entire feature segment and--to my surprise and delight--many of the "bonus" cartoons are also accompanied by commentary.

Some shorts are funnier than others, and some of the "extra" cartoons were better than ones included in the featured program, but all in all you are paying $15 for over two and a half hours of hilarious content PLUS a good two hours of commentary. I wish a little more had been included regarding the production process of the cartoons themselves, but I'm a film buff and that kind of thing interests me.

Not a perfect set by any means, but apart from buying a full season of the better television comedies (South Park, Arrested Development, Seinfeld, The Simpsons) you're not likely to find more laughs or variety of jokes in a single purchase. For the price of the latest lame "rom-com" that's been dumped on the public this year, you can have a truly worthwhile collection of comedy.

    Very highly recommended.

    2 out of 5 stars It's All About Andy.......2007-01-17

The reason I wanted to buy this DVD was because I really miss the old fashioned Christmas Specials. It seemed they used to go to alot of trouble with the sets, had great guests, and they all just seemed so happy and Christmasy!

Yes, the Osmond Brothers are featured, and they were great to watch, as they are such an incredibly talented family, but there were no other guests except for people that I assumed were part of Andy's family, but who weren't introduced, and so I'm not sure. It really would have been nice to know who they were and how they were related. It would also have been nice to see some other guests, as that is always such a big part of Christmas Specials. I guess I was expecting that.

This is The Andy Show. Lots and lots of close ups of Andy, posing and singing goofy-eyed into the camera. The sets are a hoot, as are the funny styles of the day, which was expected and fun to see, but what wasn't expected was how much Andy comes across as quite full of himself (he really does!), and I don't remember thinking that about him before. We didn't finish watching the whole DVD.

Would I watch it again next Christmas? Well, it will have been a year by then, and I will have forgotten most of the negatives, so yes, maybe on a slow TV night if my husband is out. I don't think he'd watch it again.

Knowing what I know now, would I buy this DVD again? Yes I would, if only to see the Osmond Brothers, but I also would have tried harder to get the Bing Crosby DVD, which says it features other guests on it.

I bought this for my Mum who is 94. She absolutely loved it and I did too. It's just what we wanted to see - the old Xmas shows with Andy and his brothers and the Osmonds when they were very young - so cute! Brought back many wonderful memories of christmas. Defintely worth buying if you grew up with these shows.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Andy Williams Christmas Shows by Andy Williams .......2007-01-10

I'm 49 years old and I was one of the younger people at his Christmas show this year (2006). I won't go into how I wound up at Branson Missouri, but I'll say this - Andy Williams is a freakin' force of nature. He's older now, but his voice and stage presence is increadible. I'm so thankful I got to see him live. This DVD is just great. It is the next best thing to being there. I'm well pleased with my purchase and definitely recomend it to anyone!

Considered one of the bad boys of SNL. David Spade has been making television and movie audiences laugh for years with his unique blend of sarcasm and wit. See where it all began with some of his most memorable moments on SNL. You'll enjoy Spade's classic characters like The Receptionist, Gap Girls, Don Lapre, and of course the Flight Attendant wishing you a good day and "Buh Bye". You'll also enjoy Spade in America featuring Teri Hatcher, Sean Penn, and Christopher Walken. If you're a fan, you won't want to miss the bonus features seen only here, including audio commentary from David Spade himself and never-before-seen outtakes and dress rehearsal sketches that until now have only been seen by the studio audience.

    5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT.......2006-08-17

I have 10 of the "Best of...on SNL" and David Spade's is definitely in my top three favorites. Lots of "Spade in America" skits which are my favorite. Especially the one with him playing Teri Hatcher and Teri Hatcher playing him. Definitely a must-buy!

3 out of 5 stars Not The Best Of Spade!!!.......2006-02-13

[...]I specifically have both Will Ferrell Volumes, as well as Best of Farley and Kattan, and now Spade. While there are always good skits and bad ones, you would think that a DVD with the running time of just over an hour or so can be filled up with the BEST OF somebody's work. This especially applies to someone who was on SNL for six years like Spade, although his last season only in the Spade in America segments. Here's a brief skit rundown of this DVD:

1.Martha Stewart skit which is actually one of the best on the DVD, from his guest hosting appearance in 2005 in which Stewart has recently been released from prison. (Spade as Stewart).

2.Opening Monologue from another guest hosting appearance.

3.A Salon hair ad which is actually pretty funny.

4.Dick Clark Productions skit in which Spade plays an obnoxious secretary who won't let anyone in to see Clark. Gets old quickly, but Phil Hartman steals the skit as Jesus, at the end.

5.Vin Diesel skit. This one had it's moments, but was also from his 2005 guest hosting show.

6.Total Bastard Airlines (Buh Buy). Spade plays an airline steward who is, yes, a bastard, and it's pretty good.

7.Spade plays Tom Petty to Dana Carvey's Bob Dylan. This was okay, but starts to give you a headache after awhile.

8.Mall Girls skit with Sandler and Farley. Not real funny in my opinion.

9.Sean Penn Celebrity Roast. Really not that funny on the whole, but Spade as Owen Wilson and his nose was a saving grace. I wouldn't call it the "best of" though.
...Yet another skit from his 2005 guest host appearance.

10.Spade in America. Teri Hatcher plays David Spade and Spade plays Hatcher. They go at each other in one of the best moments of the DVD.

11.PBS Afterschool Special. Not very funny at all.

12.Update correspondent segment with Chris Farley. Usually when these two get together, it's very funny. Not here.

13.Dirtball Burnout Convention. Spade plays a take on his Joe Dirt character in, yes, you guessed it, another segment from his guest hosting duties in 2005. The good news here is that this is very funny. This is one of the best on the DVD.

14.Don Lapre. This has always been one of my favorite characters. Actually, this is a real infomercial guy and Spade plays him perfectly. This is funny, but I've seen better segments with this character. Once again, this is not the BEST OF this segment.

15.Spade in America. Gets a tattoo from the real Sean Penn. An okay bit.

16.Video Store Clerk. Not real funny, with Jeff Goldblum.

17.Spade in America. This was his last show as a cast member on SNL. This is a segment where he rips all the new cast members. Actually funny. The most amusing part is when they show a picture of Will Ferrell and he says that he basically doesn't know the guy.

    18.NCI Commercial. Not funny.

19.Spade in America. Christopher Walken sits in for Spade, while Spade is outside in a "blizzard" and doesn't know his mic is on...uh, yea. Again, it has it's moments, but not great.

Okay, so there you go in detail. The dress sketch is okay and actually better than some of the meat on the feature. The outtakes are not great either. Disappointed for the most part, but not horrible. Just okay. You might find it interesting that David Spade does do a commentary track and even on that questions why a skit or two is actually on the DVD. It really shows where this SNL Best of Series is. I would think that they'd ask the actual people that they are doing the BEST OF DVD'S for what they might want on there. Perhaps let SNL fans vote on their favorite skits.

Of course, this is subjective to a point, but many SNL fans have been upset with regard to the Best of DVD's. I'm hoping they won't screw up Tim Meadows or Chevy Chase when they eventually put those out, but not holding my breath.

One last thing. Spade was on SNL for six years (okay five really). Do you really have to put three or more skits from his hosting duties FROM LAST YEAR on this compilation. Maybe one or two, but if you can't dig up an hour and fifteen minutes' worth of good comedy from that amount of time, you aren't really trying. Also, can you at least make these Best Of's come off with a two hour runtime or more for God's sake. I mean years on a show should not equal an hour, especially if you are giving time to a Best Of DVD.

Get it if you really like the Spade sarcasm. [...]

3 out of 5 stars Hits and misses, but better than most.......2006-01-26

The "Best of" SNL releases are a mixed bag with a lot of bombs and stinkers, but a few good ones. This is a great mixture of new and old stuff, and it really is some of David's better moments. His snippy receptionist (later the basis for his character on "Just Shoot Me") is in a hilarious skit involving Rosanne, and the skit where he and Teri Hatcher swap places in an interview for "Spade in America" is classic. He definitely has the best chemistry with Chris Farley and they play off each other well. It's also hilarious to see David as Joe Dirt show up again for a skit.

As in any SNL collection, there are some horrible stinkers. The PBS Afterschool Special segment is dumb, his interview with Sean Penn is a waste of time, and a skit involving the Weekend Update doesn't work. But compared to the second volume of the Will Ferrell best of collection, this one's perfect. All in all, one of their better releases, but with the wealth of material to choose from in the years he was on the show, you'd think they'd have all been winners.

    5 out of 5 stars spade's a genius.......2006-01-02

if you like funny stuff, if u like good stuff, if u like to laugh, if u like to be entertained... david spade is your man.

in original episodes. even Chris Rock who is not often funny was funny in these skits. Would only watch once. No subtitles.

5 out of 5 stars Bad Boys interactive.......2006-11-10

I'd purchased the VHS version a few years ago, and still decided to get the DVD version because this is a keeper! VHS doesn't keep well in 95% humidity all year round so the DVD was a welcome.

There's a little bit more on the DVD not seen on the VHS - wonderful surprises. I believe there are many reviews of this title from its VHS days, so I'll refrain from commenting along those lines.

Still, great to see the Bad Boy again and again and again... this time around - in a more efficient interactive way!

5 out of 5 stars The're Bad To The Bone.......2005-04-13

As one revwer already pointed out, this is the first dvd to focus on more than one cast member from "Saturday Night Live". Here, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock and Chris Farley get some of their best roles represented. (Farley, Sandler and Rock also have their own individual best of's as well).

Since this dvd does not represnt the single best moments of one cast member, my review will be structured like my one for the "Halloween" dvd. Here it goes:

Total Bastard Airlines - Spade and host Helen Hunt play ride flight attendants who swiftly shun off their cast members with the phrase "ba - bye". It's a one joke premise, but it's still very funny and a great way to get the ball rolling. 10/10

Il Cantore- even as an Italian, I found this sketch to be uproarious. Spade, Sandler, Farley, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey play sex - crazed waiters at an Italian restaurant who get it on with Kirstie Alley, much to her delight but to the dismay of husband Kevin Nealon. This sketch proves that the old "SNL" theory "stereotypes are funny" works, and this is no exception. 10/10

The Gap Girls - out of these recurring characters' seven appearances, this one is probably my favorite. While Christy (Spade), Lucy (Sandler) and Cindy (Chris Farley) are having lunch at Tater Junction, their invaded by Tammy (Schneider) and Misty (Sarah Gilbert), who poke fun at the girls. This sketch was so funny the whole way through, and even the court tv jokes still seem funny today (and so do the Michael Jsckson jokes, which is agiven). 10/10

Def ER Jam - in this 1996 parody of Russell Simmons' "Def Comedy Jam", Rock plays a foul mouthed nurse who shouts out politically incorrect words at will. How sweet. 10/10

The Richmeister - my favorite "Saturday Night Live" character may well be Schneider's lovable office pest Richard Laymer. Here, he makes his first appearance, annoying coworkers Tom (Mike Myers), Randy (Kevin Nealon), Sandy (Julia Sweeney), Steve (Phil Hartman) and Sting (played by, well, Sting). My favorite sketch. 10/10

Schmit's Gay - a classic ad spoof with Sandler and Farley as housesitters who with one sip turn an old rundown home into a homosexual paradise. The shots of tight bulges andall male conga lines may be a little much, but it's still a 10/10 sketch.

Dick Clark's Receptionist - Spade's breakthrough role was as Dick Clark's snooty receptionist, who made every guest wait and shut them up with his condescending "and you are..."? Here, he shoots ut catty one liners to Roseanne, who proves to be an excellent foil. It got really funny when Phil Hartman came in as Jesus. 10/10

The Chris Farley Show - Chris stumbles through an interview with Jeff Daniels. It was this childilike attitude that made Farley so lovable, and why we miss him so much. 10/10

Canteen Boy - Sandler's recurring character, the 27 year old boy scout, is featured in the controversial scoutmaster sketch with Alec Baldwin. In it, Baldwin spills water on Sandler's sleeping bag, forcing him to share one with him. Baldwin tries to cajole Sandler into having sex with him. Bsldwin goes too far, and Sandler manages to escape by having Baldwin attacked by snakes. This sketch is so wrong on so many levels (the scen where Baldwin sodomizes Sandler may be a little much fro some people) < yet it's so funny. 10/10

Big Toe Song - a tounge in cheek Boys II Men knock - off, Rock and Tim Meadows play lead singers of G - Spot, who perform their hit "Big Toe Song". The video for this song is raunchy as hell and it's hilarious. 10/10

Chris Rock On Update Highlights - bits and pieces of Rock's "Weekend Update" commentaries, all of which are raw and witty. 10/10

Spade In America - from Spade's last episode, he presents a clipshow of his "Hollywood Minute" bits. Hysterical, especially the MC Hamer joke, though I ish they had the Rick Ocasek joke (Hey Rick why the long face?) 10/10

Opera Man Highlights - more clips, this time Sandler as his popular "Update" characterwho sings about the news story. This is possibly the dvd's best sketch, other than the Richmeister. 10/10

Hanukkah Song - Sandler's three part holiday classic made its debut on Decmeber 10th, 1994 on "Weekend Update". This edition is my favorite, especially the line about Ebineezer Scrooge. 10/10

Nikey Turkey Commercial - a parody of those Nike pump sneaker with Rockas a rapping spokesman. Very good. 10/10

The Denise Show - Sandler plays Brian, a man obsessed with his ex - girlfriend and hists a tv show about itt. This sketch even in a rather disturbing sort of way. 10/10

Orgasm Guy - finally, Schneider appears again. Here he plays a man named Ron, a guy who's turned on by everything, from Jonathan Demme films to Setchuan foods. 10/10

Def Jam Magic Show - another Def Jam spoof, with foul mouth from Rock. The dialogue between Tim Meadows and Ellen Cleghorne is especially intersting. 10/10

Zagat's - this at one pint was my favorite "SNL" sketch. Sandler and Farley play the Gelfands, an old Jewish couple. Farley annoyingly reads restaurant choices for their 35th anniversary in the Zagat's guide, much to Sandler's annoyance. David Duchovny was really funny as Farley's sister. 10/10

The Dark Side With Nat X -Rock's most popular recurring character, militant Nat X, appears in a 1996 hosting stint, hassling Jesse Jackson (Darrell Hammond), Tori Spelling (Cheri Oteri) and Mike Tyson (Tracy Morgan). Great way to end it all. 10/10

The bonus sketches are really funny, especially "Sapde In America" with Jennifer Anniston.

There are some sketches that I wish were one here. For example, I wish they included the sketch where Schneider is the owner of the African artifacts shop who sells artifacts used to stash marijuana. Also, a Matt Foley sketch with Farley would have been nice. Also, the majority of these sketches are featured on other dvds, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it.

Overall, this is such a great dvd. Now here's the next dvd collection of "SNL" dvds I would like to see:

"Saturday Night Live: The Women". It would have:

"The Best Of Cheri Oteri" (this aired on tv in Spetember yet hasn't been released yet)
    "The Best Of Jan Hooks"
    "The Best Of Ana Gasteyer"
    "The Best Of Gilda Radner"
    "The Best Of Jane Curtain"
    "The Best Of Victoria Jackson"
    "The Best Of Laraine Newman"
"The Best Of Molly Shannon" (which I already have)

    and

    "Saturday Night Live: The Hosts":

"The Best Of Tom Hanks" (this aired on tv as well but hasn't seen the light of day on dvd)
    "The Best Of John Goodman"
    "The Best Of Alec Baldwin"
"The Best Of Christopher Walken" (which I have)
"The Best Of Steve Martin" (which I also have)
"The Best Of Buck Henry" (this should really please the old fans of the show)

"Saturday Night Live: The First Five Years":

    "The Best Of Dan Akroyd"
    "The Best Of John Belushi"
    "The Best Of Garret Morris"
    "The Best Of Chevy Chase"
    "The Best Of Bill Murray"
    "The Best Of Laraine Newman"
    "The Best Of Gilda Radner"
    "The Best Of Jane Curtain"

And here are just a few random best - of's:

    "The Best Of Kevin Nealon"
"The Best Of Jon Lovitz" (this again aired on tv but is not on dvd)
"The Best Of Phil Hartman, Volume 2"
"The Best Of Will Ferrell, Volume 3" (volume 2 really blew)
"The Best Of David Spade" (which is coming out this fall)

Bottom line: pick up "Bad Boys".

    4 out of 5 stars Beware!.......2005-03-03

This is all funny stuff from some of the old-time SNL crew, but a word of caution; I bought this DVD specifically because I wanted a copy of the skit where Woody Harrelson incites other cast members to take their shirts off at the beach. This is one of the funniest SNL skits EVER, and is on the VHS version, but for some reason it didn't make it onto the DVD. I won't be sending my DVD back, but I was very disappointed at the inexplicable cutting of this skit from the DVD version.

    5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2004-04-03

When one sees the opening sketch,
