This laid-back, live, intimate session featuring Eric Clapton's bluesy guitar playing is quite enjoyable--if a bit limited in scope. With little lighting and frills and a small group backing him up, Clapton picks up his acoustic guitar and leads the listener down memory lane. Clapton is clearly on his best behavior as he engages in minimal small talk with his audience and lets the music speak for itself. The erstwhile Yardbird and former member of Cream and Blind Faith riffs through some dozen-plus songs including "Before You Accuse Me," "Tears in Heaven," "Walkin' Blues," "Alberta," "San Francisco Bay Blues" (in which Clapton thankfully cuts loose a bit), and his great hits "Layla" (written for his ex-wife, Patti Boyd Harrison) and "Old Love," a standard that garnered big applause. But the simple set and sparse stage can barely contain the energy that fills the arena when Clapton launches into "Rollin' and Tumblin'," a raucous, rousing bit of blues that Clapton is certainly still up for. This video is primarily for Clapton's most ardent fans, providing some heartfelt, soulful instrumental prowess in addition to an aging British rocker singing the blues as well as a white guy can. --Paula Nechak

Eric Clapton Unplugged is an intimate portrait of the performer and the man. This program was taped shortly after the death of Clapton's 5 year old son, Connor. The touching piece, "Tears in Heaven," is a result of that sad experience. In spite of that, the program is upbeat and enjoyable and boasts a new and well received version of the classic "Layla." I watch this edition of Unplugged regularly: I think of it as comfort food for the ears.

5 out of 5 stars Simply amazing........2007-07-07

This is the show I saw on PBS...or was that BBC? Anyway, I appreciate his skill as a musician and this DVD showcases his skills. This guy does moves that I can't do, even after I watch him do them! Eric Clapton was turned loose to do whatever he wanted to do on this disk, and it is simply amazing.

5 out of 5 stars Eric Clapton Unplugged.......2007-04-08

Wonderful. Eric actually talks and displays his great
sense of humor. He interacts with the band and the audience which is rare in any of his recent arena performances. He put a whole new spin on many of his electronic standards-hits.

5 out of 5 stars Clapton is always doing the right thing.......2007-02-26

This 1992 MTV Unplugged video is something everybody should watch at least once in a lifetime. Now that the standard for good music is set really low, a Clapton Unplugged DVD is something that can calm down stressed ears. (I mean, what is hiphop, rap, punk, emocore, and other bad stuff doing on top of the charts?)

The band is doing really good in this video; Clapton's acoustic guitar bluesstyle playing is incredible; Chuck Leavell's keyboards are subtle but quite meaningfull (I place his piano solos here among my favorite one's); Nathan East is always perfect; Ray Cooper and Ferrone on Perc/Drums do it fine and precisely and Andy F. Low is the 2nd guitar player on Clapton's bands I enjoy the most (like him better than Doyle Bramhall II, but not as much as Derek Trucks in the current EC Tour).

Acoustic versions by Eric Clapton: can anything be better than this for a quiet, rainy day with the one you love?

5 out of 5 stars This is an instructional DVD! A Great One!!.......2007-06-17

For those who may not know the Hal Leonard publications and the Signature Licks Series: this is not a DVD of an Eric Clapton show! This is an instructional DVD for those who wants to play acoustic guitar.

The instructor is Dough Boduch, a freelance guitarist, teacher, editor and recording artist. He teachs how to play (in the acoustic guitar) 8 of the Eric Clapton tunes presented in Eric's CD/DVD "Unplugged". Songs are: Change the World, Circus, Layla, Malted Milk, Nobody Knows You When You'Re Down and Out, Signe, Tears in Heaven and Walkin' Blues.

I think the quality of the image is very good and clean. The sound is also great - when Dough Boduch plays the acoustic guitar, he sounds almost as Eric Clapton in the CD/DVD.

After presenting part of the music at the regular speed, the instructor breaks it in several parts, then explain and shows part by part of each song at a very low speed (sometimes more then once) in order to make you get to the point.

There is also a chapter used to tune the guitar. The instructor is very good and explains very well. The DVD could be a little bit better if we could have the TABs of the songs, but they're available neither on the DVD nor on a web-site. It seems however that if you get the Hal Leonard "Eric Clapton - Unplugged" play along book you will get there - I haven't check it yet.

One interesting section of 15 minutes is dedicated to the techniques used by Eric Clapton and how he uses them: bending, vibrato, pull-off, hammer on, fingerpicking, blues scales and C Minor scale.

One more cool section is the jam along section where the video shows the instructor playing but you can't hear him. Instead, you can be Eric Clapton for a day and play the acoustic parts of the song in a Acoustic Guitar Karaoke.

To summarize, I found this to be an excellent instructional video, specially for those who are Eric Clapton fans and who already have a knowledge in playng the acoustic guitar. Beginners (such as myself) will probably have to work a little harder before getting the most out of this DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Acoustic EC.......2005-10-03

No EC collection would be considered complete without the
acoustic side of EC, because the man himself is MUCH more
than just the electric guitar!!

1 out of 5 stars clapton acoustic.......2005-06-01

THIS IS NOT A CLAPTON CONCERT!!! IT'S AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL BY SOMEONE NAMED DOUG BODUCH TO TEACH YOU HOW TO PLAY IN THE CLAPTON STYLE. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED AND RETURNED IT UNOPENED
