Description

The Blues is an annual festival drawing 125,000 fans to see some of the nation's top Blues performers in an intimate beachside setting in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Tension and Release captures that scene, bringing us the Blues as it is played by some of the most talented and passionate performers playing today. This isn't a collection of classic performances - it's a very personal look at today's finest. So rather than offer a remote historical analysis, this film offers a celebratory immersion in the music itself! The Perfomances: Jimmy Thackery, Otis Taylor Band, John Hammond Band, Johnnie Marshall, Deborah Coleman, Michael Burks, Albert Castiglia, J.J. Grey, Mofro and more.

4 out of 5 stars Deborah Coleman shines on this DVD, go for it fans!.......2005-05-31

There's a reason Deborah Coleman graces the cover of this DVD release; she was truly the highlight of the performance. The only beauty on stage too, but her music speaks for itself. Fans will also appreciate Deborah's bonus performance. Deborah Coleman's reputation is built on excellent high-energy live performances with her superb band. Check her out here and again when she comes to town!

5 out of 5 stars it's about the music.......2005-02-16

Hard to beat Deborah Coleman's performance here, but lots of the others are definitely great too. Sometimes you forget about what a wide ranging scene the blues is, and this show really brings it all back home that way. I loved the commentary by the artists about where/how the blues came into their lives, and what it has meant to them. Particularly liked their playing and singing songs right in mid-interview to demonstrate. My only complaint was that there wasn't a second disk with more.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ This Dvd put me to sleep. The world dosent need another blues is video. To much talking that cut into all the preformances. The only good thing was Debra Coleman's Preformance in the bonus section. All I wanted was to see complete songs preformed by blues artist. Heck Some of the artist arent even blues preformers.
