4 out of 5 stars The Tribe's Got The Vibe.......2006-11-17

I believe that many of the Amazon reviewers have been hypercritical. It is true that this is a relatively short disc. Beyond that, the videos are pretty mediocre. This is not a drawback of the DVD itself, but of the actual videos. The original videos were obviously shot on a low budget and they now seem a bit dated. That shouldn't keep you from buying this DVD. It's still a great disc for no reason other than hearing A Tribe Called Quest in 5.1 surround sound. Some of the tracks really lend themselves to this technology. The audio editor did a great job mixing this for surround sound. In particular, the call and response elements come through really well. This DVD changed how I felt about The Tribe. Listening to their albums for years and having even seen them live, I've always felt a serious, intellectual vibe from this band. Seeing the videos, I get a different sense from the group. The videos portray a fun loving band with a sense of humor and play. It has given me a more balanced appreciation of one of the greatest hip-hop groups. Highlights include 'Can I Kick It?,' 'Electric Relaxation,' 'Jazz (We've Got It) and let's not forget about one of the all-time best hip-hop songs: 'Scenario.' For this last video, the group pulled in all of the guest rappers, most notably Busta Rhymes. If you love A Tribe Called Quest, "The Video Anthology" is essential.

5 out of 5 stars Well, I like it........2006-09-14

I never saw any of these video clips in Australia and it is good to see them now. I have heard A Tribe Called Quest on CD, on the radio and in clubs, but I've never seen them live in concert or on television, so having this DVD is nice.

I like the approach of this group and the videos are well put together and not too "over the top" (Missy Elliot's videos are the worst in my opinion - just too much of everything and all she does is mumble!).

There isn't loads of swearing and scantily clad women in these videos, so some people might be disappointed.

Overall, this is a good DVD. However, I would have liked to have a few extras - perhaps an interview with the band? Or some sort of history of the group. The DVD contains a group of videos and nothing more. But that is okay with me, okay!?

3 out of 5 stars DVD is WEAK and TOO SHORT!!.......2003-04-06

I have to agree with the following people this DVD just doesn't cut it. Its too short and could of had some iterviews with the band. FALSE ADVERTISING!the reason i bought this DVD was to see the old "CAN I KICK IT" video and its not the orignal sound its a REMIX!I HOPE JIVE READS THIS AND ISSUES OUT A NEW DVD WITH MORE TO IT AND DON'T FORGET TO PUT THE ORIGNAL SONG TO THE VIDEO "CAN I KICK IT"!

3 out of 5 stars This DVD doesn't cut it........2002-12-27

I love Tribe to death. They are one of the greatest hip hop acts ever. But as said before this DVD was not put together as well as it should have. It looks like the music-videos were just ripped right off a VHS master and slapped on a DVD. Perhaps, thats not the case, but that is what the quality of most the vidoes look/sound like. They definantly should've been remastered for best possible quality. Other then putting the 11 vidoes on a DVD, very little work was done on this disc. Remixes should've been included, so you could toggle them while the video is playing, like on the Beastie Boys DVD set. This would take a bit of work, but its a feasible feature. The exclusion of 2 videos (Stressed Out and Hot Sex) is not a very forgiveable move. Some other extras, bells and whistles would be nice aswell. They could probably put together a commentary track if the group ever gets back together, which now seems more likely then in the past. But even though this is a pretty bare-bones, unperfect disc, if this is you're only acces to A Tribe Called Quest vieos you should probably get it anyways. They're definantly a must see for Tribe fans. Hopefully, though sometime in the future this DVD will be made obsolete by a superior release.

3 out of 5 stars Does not do justice to the Tribe's music.......2002-08-04

Jive and Zomba records did a poor job of slapping this together at the request of dedicated Tribe fans. Not only is it missing videos(Hot Sex, Stressed Out), it seems like they did the least amount of work to satisfy fans. Tribe videos are rare to see, so I am happy to have a good amount of them. But this pop-producing record label could have done a little more to make this DVD a little more fulfilling.
Where are the YO! MTV Raps segments?!
