Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, a.k.a. Tears for Fears, made potent radio music for the 1980s but traveled a steep learning curve when it came to music videos. Still, their video productions improved markedly with each hit, as demonstrated in this mini-collection of five titles. "Shout" still sounds every bit the catharsis it was meant to be, while its sleepy video is paradoxically and arbitrarily set against pretty coastlines. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" doesn't do justice to Tears' most engaging and powerful recording, with its mesmerizing, Mystery to Me-era Fleetwood Mac sound. The guys start looking cool, even sexy, in "Mother's Talk (U.S. Remix)," while "Head Over Heels" makes a star out of Orzabal, playing a goof trying to pick up a librarian. Naturally, this set ends with the psychedelicized "Sowing the Seeds of Love," with its Beatle-esque production and images of floating Buddhas. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:
Are they for real?.......2005-08-08
I guess this is for the real casual Tears For Fears fan. None of the videos from their album "The Hurting" are here at all. You get the major singles from "Songs From The Big Chair," and one video from their 1989 album. It's very unsatisfying if you have seen all of their videos. I for one think the videos for "Change" and "Pale Shelter" are awesome. So if you just casually want to watch a few TFF videos and relive the 80's this might be for you but if you are a die hard fan you might be disapointed.
Great videos, good value, but not for fans............2005-06-17
Videos by Tears for fears are great. This DVD is OK for people who like a bit of TFF but who are not interested in paying more than 10 $ for a few of the great songs and videos. Forget about extras at this price. 20th Century collection is for a collector of about every kind of music without being a big fan. With this serie of DVDs, you can get a few cheap priced DVDs with a short, but good content.
Unfortunatly, videos on this DVD are not the best. A lot of content is missing. If you want a bit more, buy the official "Tears Roll Down" greatest hits videos. You will get twice as many videos. Sound quality is the same on both DVDs, same recording as on the CD.
I gave *** because of the good value. The content is very short.
Give the 80's a break.......2004-07-22
I'm sick of people complaining about the "lack" of videos for these 80's compilations. You're getting what your paying for, 8 bucks for 5 great videos. I've seen CD's with 5 tracks on it for about that same price before and this a quality DVD. These five videos are their best known songs, if you want more, you won't get it because they didn't make anymore videos. Head Over Heals, Sowing the Seeds Of Love, Shout, Everybody Wants To Rule the World and one lesser known. The videos themselves are great and a must have for fans. Sowing the Seeds of Love is one of the most underrated songs ever and still kickin' today in 2004. I will want my Dolby Digital 5.1 for these, but I can't have everything I want. Either way, 5 great videos for 8 bucks, it's a good deal if you love the 80's and appreciate great 80's vintage especially Tears for Fears. The music coming out now can't compare to what these guys did, this is just music really worth listening too. Sit back and rehash the 80's! Get them all!!
TOO SHORT.......2004-06-15
I realize that this is a very inexpensive DVD, but I would be willing to pay much more for a COMPLETE video collection. Until that day comes (if ever), I'll just continue to watch videos for Pale Shelter and Mad World on VH-1 Classic...
Buy it for 'Mothers Talk (U.S. Remix)'.......2004-04-01
I know that many people would rather buy the european release of TFF DVD which included all tracks from their greatest hits album but the video 'Mothers talk (US Remix)' in this DVD is extremely rare and it is different version in european release. You can see the band (Roland,Curt,Ian,Manny) ROCK !!! in this video. Just buy it for this video.
