Japanese filmmaker Masanori Hata made this above-average family film about a dog and a cat--friends with a tendency to make mischief--who go on an unanticipated adventure when one is rushed downriver and the other follows. Hata, who took four years to complete the work, relies on purely cinematic storytelling techniques (these animals don't have human voices on the soundtrack), making the film an international favorite. Dudley Moore narrates, but the film works because Hata's filmmaking fundamentals are so good. Kids love this, but adults can easily appreciate and enjoy it, too. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars milo and otis, a classic.......2007-09-10

loved this movie as a kid, so when i found it, i immediately snatched it up. and at a ridiculously cheap price. i would like for my kids to have this to watch one day instead of less wholesome things that are out nowadays.

5 out of 5 stars A long time favorite.......2007-08-27

I saw this when I was very young and very recently picked up the dvd for like 5 bucks. I just had to. I havent seen it in forever, but I still remember loving it. Its really cute and sincere. You cant help but smile. I know I did some research on it and read that it took over 2 years to actually film this movie because of all the animal training. Really tricky stuff. But well worth it. My 2 year old niece cried when watching it and thought they were being mean to the poor animals, but then she watched it again and loved it. So, yes, I still recommend this to very yound children, especially if they love animals.

5 out of 5 stars So Cute!.......2007-07-27

I loved this movie when I was little and still love it to this day! It is a very cute movie with a good plot and good characters.

5 out of 5 stars just what I expected.......2007-06-26

This was one of my favorite movies growing up and now Im so happy I have it on DVD. Its just as I remember it.

4 out of 5 stars The Adventures of Milo and Otis.......2007-06-09

My son "lost" the DVD that we borrowed from the library, so this was a
replacement for that lost item. Thankfully you had it, otherwise, instead of 10.00, it would have cost us 20.00!

System Requirements:
This two DVD set includes two separate films, Live in Japan (shot in August 2004 at the end of the On & On tour) and A Weekend at the Greek (shot on August 19th & 20th, 2005 at Berkeley's famed Greek Theatre during the In Between Dreams tour). Both films blend concert performances with intimate interviews and behind the scenes footage as well as over 30 minutes of bonus material. Live in Japan captures Jack's band in its original trio form, with Bassist Merlo Podlewski and drummer Adam Topol touring Japan performing selections from Brushfire Fairytales and On and On. The film features guest appearances by Money Mark and Donavon Frankenreiter. Shortly after the completion of the Japan tour, the band convened in the Mango Tree Studio to record their most recent album In Between Dreams, with Zach Gill from Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO) adding piano and accordion. A Weekend at The Greek, filmed over two nights at one of the band s favorite venues, captures the expanded sound of this four piece lineup as well as sit ins from the growing Brushfire Records family: G.Love, ALO, Money Mark and Matt Costa.

5 out of 5 stars Soul-Soothing Jack Delivers.......2007-01-14

Take a peak into the life of the gracefully talented Jack Johnson. Bios on musician friends and Jack's personal tales mark the musical contribution he is making. I continue to be impressed by his message, his personal character and his grateful humility. This DVD will give his supportive fans a clearer view of this truly wonderful person with brilliant singer/songwriting prowess.

The Greek theater in Berkeley is a special place - sorry to have missed that concert - this DVD is the next best thing - a must buy !

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointing, and I'm a fan!.......2006-12-21

Well, I've fallen in love with Jack Johnson's music couple of months ago and I really LOVE album In Between Dreams, heard it probably fifty times already. So I went and bought this DVD hoping it would be something special, just like JJ's music. But I could not believe! This is NOT a concert show, this is just a documentary with songs in between! What sense does it make to interupt the song line just to tell viewers things that could easily be put in a separate chapter on a DVD? Are you looking forward to hear JJ's best hit Sitting, Waiting, Wishing? Go on then! After one minute, this song is interupted by JJ's explanation of how was video for this song made! Then you go back to the song but guess what - not where it stopped before but almost to the end!
Well, some songs are good, I must admit - loved Banana Pancakes, No Other Way and Better Together.
I'm giving 2 stars only because I love his music so much but I don't think I'm gonna watch this DVD again.
If you want to see what a concert DVD should look like go for David Gray - Live At the Point, but the best one out there is definetely Seal In Paris - that's by far the best thing I've seen.

The Japanese might not know exactly what "jump, jive, an' wail" means, but they know how to rock--and so does Brian Setzer, who does just that throughout this 20-song, 85-minute concert, filmed in Tokyo during his 2001 tour. The former Stray Cat guitarist-singer and his 17-piece, horn-heavy orchestra's big band swing-meets-rockabilly sound is dynamic and exciting--just check out the audience, which goes absolutely bonkers from the first note. We hear plenty of virtuoso soloing by Setzer (who also performs in trio and solo settings) on tunes ranging from standards like "In the Mood" to Stray Cats favorites like "Rock This Town." But it's more than a one-man deal; the band's onstage antics make this a fun show to both watch and listen to. DVD bonus features include a brief tour documentary, while two songs ("Caravan" and "Sleepwalk") can be viewed from different angles using your DVD remote. Let's rock, y'all! --Sam Graham

5 out of 5 stars Life Changing.......2007-09-03

This DVD is a must own for any guitar student. Especially a middle-aged one like me. Having viewed it, I realized the error of my ways.
I had just finished learning "Badge", and when I got to the end...boring!
I tossed all my Clapton/SRV/Blues rock materials right in the trash. Adios!
Setzer is pulling from all the great american musical genres. So, instead
of long, snaking, pentatonic riffing(not that there's anything wrong with that), you get music that's way more interesting, and engaging.
Also, Setzer is an unabashed showman. And his crew seems to love working with him.
Get it and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Hats off !.......2007-08-23

My DVD collection has concerts of : Lamb of God,Arch Enemy,Megadeth,Maiden,Metallica and Sepultura to name a few. That should give you an idea of my musical tastes.I bought this DVD after I heard the song "Rock this town" on a friends CD.I was very apprehensive of how I would take to this concert, but my fears were unfounded.Setzer shreds like the best of them.In spite of being a rabid metalhead,I know a good concert when I hear/see one and this is a top notch gig.The band esp. the bass player and drummer are awesome.Im gald I have this gem in my concert DVD collection.BUY IT if you like a high energy, ripping concert !

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful concert.......2007-04-19

Great toe-tapping music, good show, sound mix and recording on this DVD is supurb.

5 out of 5 stars Best I've seen! BSO rocks your socks off Daddy-O!.......2006-12-26

There's something the matter with you if you don't like this... I just can't stress it enough that Setzer is one of the very best musicians to ever grace this planet. Yes the Stray Cats are cooler than school, but this is even better. Just got this disc for Christmas and personally feel it's even better than the other two Setzer DVD's out there. The BSO rocks you through many classics as well as plenty of his own material. Live rock 'n roll shows just don't get any better than this. I'm a huge fan of Brian's guitar playing... just that killer Gretsch sound through a Fender amp, perfect.

5 out of 5 stars thee "guitar god".......2006-05-21

Wow! this man takes all those so called guitar heros look like intermediate students.Michaelangelo used basic tools to create masterpieces, raw talent.Setzer, basic tools{look kids,no effect pedals!}masterpieces! What this boy can do is pure genius and he does it like he's just killin time.I dont think many would be left standing in a shootout with this gunslinger!Oh yeah the band,WOW!what bass playing, seering horns, and drums!mercy. The japanese fans were a howl. They were having a blast. These cats dont hide behind effects, lights and smoke bombs.this is a real show.Hope you enjoy it as much as i did.I think i'll watch again!!!

Description

Captured live at Tokyo's Suntory Hall, renowned piano virtuoso Keith Jarrett performs some of his most memorable and haunting standards before an enthusiastic crowd. Performed entirely solo, these numbers clearly reveal the breadth and power of his immense musical skills. Tracks: The Night We Called It a Day, I Love You, Things Ain't What They Used to Be, Sound, I Loves You Porgy, There Is No Greater Love, Round About Midnight, Solar, Then I'll Be Tired of You, Sweet and Lovely, The Wind, Do Nothing Till You Hear from Me, I Got It Bad and That Ain't Good, Summertime.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars simply ASTONISHING.......2007-03-17

Suffice it to say I am a huge fan of this man, an understatement to say the least.

This DVD is a profound document, recorded almost twenty years ago as I write this. There is something particularly intense about this performance of standards; variety in material to be sure- but the detail he brings to these interpretations, whether meditative, bluesy-gospel or straight out swing improv of the highest calibre, is simply amazing. You will encounter much counterpoint in these interpretations, executed with a taste and flair Bach himself would praise.

At some point Jarrett seems to conjure the muse or whatever spririts motivate or infuse his playing in a seemingly comic wave of his hands and no wonder; every moment of this disc is pure inspiration, a joy to watch and an even greater pleasure to listen to. Considering much of his playing at this time (1987) involved his trio, this Tokyo performance reveals just how independent this singular musician/genius is, capable of sustaining the audience's rapt attention throughout the entire program.

A must have- in many ways more satisfying than most of his freer solo improv CDs, certainly more of an academic document for fans casual or devoted.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2005-05-10

I've listened to Jarrett for 30 years and no musician has meant more to me as a person who loves many genres, including jazz. This is a gorgeous CD and it would be worth the full price to just for the "Summertime" track.

4 out of 5 stars A Sparkle Night.......2003-11-22

Celebrating his 100th concert in Japan, Mr. Jarrett obviously came out with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. But it was the second half of the concert that amazed me so much, with the standard tunes like "Round About Midnight", "Then I'll be Tired of You", "The Wind", and especially "Solar", Keith played them more open than they were in the Trio, Motives just came one after another unstoppably. As a fact Keith hiself was amused by the inspiration along the tune and put on some "magic shows" after applause.

Comparing with CDs it might not be a perfect night, however, it's one of the best video documents available for Keith Jarrett.

5 out of 5 stars "I Could Have Danced (AND Listened) All Night".......2003-01-07

I have many solo piano recordings, from James P. Johnson to Cecil Taylor. I can listen to Johnson and I can listen to Taylor. But for how long.

To my ear only Keith Jarrett has the ability to play such a variety of musical styles--and all of them so well--that I could listen all night long with no fear of boredom.

And though this solo recording is (for the most part) all standards and ballads, it never mires down like so many in this genre do. Jarrett's mastery of melody, harmony, rhythm, improvisation and "composition," all couple up with--yet are never overwhelmed by--his incredible technique, and together these many facets of his genius take this recording to a level beyond any other recording of similar pieces. His playing here truly runs the gamut from the ethereal and sublime to the "get-up-off-your-...-and-shake-your-body" funky!

Listen, for example, to the way "The Night We Called It A Day" unfolds in "novelistic" fashion. It is as if you are sitting there listening to a beautifully haunting musical book unfold before you. Close your eyes and its beauty washes over you.

Or try "Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me." It is at times achingly restrained, simple, and beautiful; your ears will beg you to just sit down and listen. But then it changes, and suddenly his funky and bluesy left hand bumps into his dazzlingly speedy and bluesy right hand and your body is gonna demand that you to get up and boogie! Jarrett's regrettably-not-often-heard-but-amazing ("semi"?) stride piano ability comes to the fore here. You will not be able to erase from your face your grin of amazement. (By the way, I mentioned Jarrett's ability at "composition" above. Case in point, though the B section here is not the original--unless I am sorely mistaken--it is gorgeous, and melds perfectly with the rest of the piece.)

And though I am quite sure that the purists and traditionalists in the audience will criticize me with the greatest of gusto for the following comment, I believe Jarrett's solo version of "'Round Midnight" is the most beautifully poignant I have ever heard. (Yes, even including the wonderful recording of Monk composing the tune in the studio.)

Interestingly, Jarrett--dare I say it--actually loses it momentarily in "'Round Midnight." (Now it's the Jarrett die-hards chance to pounce on me!) The rhythm just falls apart. But, you know what? I could care less. Unlike Glenn Gould's belief that perfection, in part, awaited its creation in the editing room--and I personally believe that he was at least partially correct when one is recording classical music--Jarrett's "perfection" is that he will not play it safe, that he will reach and stretch, farther and farther, even to the point that he occassionally stumbles. It would be so easy for a musician of his ability to make a safe, mistake-proof recording. But he doesn't believe that that is what this kind of music is about. More power to him for being willing to fall in front of us unashamed. Thank you, Mr. Jarrett, for always taking that extra chance. It allows us a chance to hear what we otherwise never would. It is a blessing to be alive in a world with your music.

5 out of 5 stars Music at its best.......2002-09-03

The performance of Keith Jarrett is just the best thing I have heard or seen in solo piano. The genius of Keith Jarrett becomes obvious when he plays "There is no greater love" and improvises a short part of it in a Barock /Bach style.
The DVD is a must for every Jazz-Lover and of course for every Keith Jarrett fan.

5 out of 5 stars BOOTSYLICIOUS!!!.......2007-08-02

This DVD is a must for all hardcore P-Funk fans and indeed true funkateers everywhere. Bootsy and his players relive their glory years with riveting performances of the the Rubber Band's great hits of the 70s and early 80s ... ("Ahhh.. The Name is Boots, Baby", "The Pinocchio Theory", "Hollywood Squares", "Body Slam", etc) while throwing in spellbinding renditions of of a duo of Funkadelic and Parliament blockbusters for good measure ...("Cosmic Slop" and "Mothership Connection")The camera work too is excellent.

5 out of 5 stars !!!So Lovable, So Charming, So Psychotic, So Damn Funky!!!.......2006-06-19

I didn't realize writing about something one enjoys so much would be so hard. Guess I'm not the writer type :) I actually purchased this DVD back In April 06 and I can't remember
how many times I've viewed It by now. Lets just say, the first couple of weeks after receiving It, this was the only disc In my player.

I was actually a teenager when this stuff first hit. I still
remember guys In my neighborhood thinking they were Bootsy. The
hair, trying to dress up like him. Running Bootsy lines to all the girls that would listen to them. This was so funny to me. (LOL) I guess I was never so smooth, but nevertheless, I was bittened by the funk bug.

I never got to see him live In his early career. It wasn't until
the mid 90's when I got see him on tour. (Atlanta) This was actually around the same time this DVD was being filmed. (Japan)

Lets get to the good stuff.

You'll have the option of going
straight to the show or the rehearsal footage. I recommend viewing the rehearsal footage first. This will definitely set the stage and give you a view of Bootsy & the band that you'll
never see anywhere else, or unless you travel with them or work
for the arena they are performing at. (I was never so lucky) :P

The cameraman gets close ups as Bootsy tunes the famous "Space Bass" dressed down In ordinary street gear, Bootsy navigates the
band through the song list. Counting measures and putting the band In pocket. There's one particular part where Bootsy gets distracted by Bernie Worrell's (ever-so-funky chops) on the Clavinet. So funny!!! You got to love this kind of footage, coz It's not available anywhere else unless you were there. Oh, I almost forget to tell you to checkout his massive stomp box of pedels & effects units on the floor. I never realize the "Space Bass" has three separate outplugs. (!!!Unbelievable!!!)

You'll definitely see a lot of familier faces In this lineup:

Bernie Worrell (Keys), Joel "Razor Sharp" Johnson (Keys), Gary
"Mudd-Bone" Cooper (Vocals), Frankie "Kash" Waddy (Drums) & more.
I can't leave out Gary "Dee Dee James (Guitar) not from the
original lineup, but definitely holds It down on the "acid trippin" guitar.

Bootsy comes on stage and the Intensity builds before the first
note. This was a pretty large club by the looks of the crowd and
every hand In the place was up In the air. (!!!Pumpin It Up!!!)

Bootsy really reps It like no other In Japan. The sound quality
Is fantasic. Lighting Is lush and clear & the camera guys got
great shots and excellent close ups. I can't find any flews In
this production. I really love this.

I got to end this coz I don't want to give you too much here and
ruin your appetite. I just want to say that Bootsy really
displays his genuine affection, passion and love In this DVD.
Going out Into the audience to touch & spread the love In Japan.

Awesomely, this guys still delivers the funk (Uncut) displaying
his thunderous, open-handed slap on the Space Bass (She still purrs so beautifully) :P

You'll definitely be captivated when this show starts to roll.
You won't want to miss anything, so I'm sure you'll probably end up watching It at least back-to-back the first few times. (I did) :)

Still a bit pricey at the time I purchased this gem. (But
sometimes you have to do what you gotta do.) And I definitely
couldn't wait once I found this DVD. I was actually able to save
about $5 dollars off the this price on another website. But
hopefully by the time you discover this...prices will have
dropped considerably. But If not, Go for It!!! You won't regret
It.

There's so many more great moments In this DVD, but you'll have
to see It for yourself. Bootsy takes you to Bumpschool and then
Bernie cools you out with a somewhat Spiritual-Synth solo. Very
soothing moment for Boosty and the band.

Song List: 1. Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy,Baby., 2. Psychoticbumpschool, 3. The Pinocchhio Theory, 4. Hollywood Squares, 5. Body Slam!, 6. Mothership Connection, 7. Cosmic Slop
8. I'd Rather Be With You, 9. A Sacred Place (RIP), 10. Medley:

Ok, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and get yours. Take care.

4 out of 5 stars Good Concert -- But What Is One Expecting?.......2007-02-28

I first heard of Stacie Orrico when she performed at a Dove Awards celebration. I've seen her music at Christian book stores, and hear "(there's gotta be) More To Life" on Christian radio. So one can assume she's a Christian singer. This blurb from the back of the video gives this promise of this concert's spiritual emphasis:

"From Stacie Orrico's outstanding almost platinum album, see the hits come alive with an elaborate stage set, lively dance interpretations, and costume changes . . ."

One can argue if Stacie is a Christian musician or a musician that is a Christian. My first impression is that she was a Christian answer to Britney Spears; rather, I think she is rather a wholesome alternative.

I have no doubt that Stacie is my sister in the Christian faith. (Actually, with our relative ages, she may be more likely my niece or daughter). Some of the songs have great meaning, such as "Genuine", "(there's gotta be) More To Life" (the video also fit the bill), and "I Could Be The One". But other songs have no hint of Christianity to them (including the video "Stuck").

Artistically, it was better than I expected. The band was top-notch, able to play jazz as well as pop, and Stacie did well on the piano. Besides the songs I mentioned, I also liked "Strong Enough" and "Security". I also liked the slow start for "(there's gotta be) More To Life".

However, Stacie can be used as an argument for those who think "Christian rock" is a contradiction. While her performance and the dancing could be more flirtatious than seductive, there is not much lyrically or in the performance that seperates her from secular performers. From the sound of reviews, her following project is even less spiritual.

    3 out of 5 stars Good quality.......2005-07-17

I am not a fan of concert CDs or DVDs, or of concerts themselves, actually. Music in concert rarely sounds as good to me as on the record, since the record is recorded with careful perfection while concerts are done on the fly. But I do enjoy this concert CD.

Stacie Orrico's "2 1/2" album, her self-titled white cover album, was my favorite CD of 2003. It is an album of pop perfection. The songs from that album are performed on this DVD, plus a couple from her first album. But beyond the songs from her self-titled album being the most perfectly crafted pop songs to be heard today, Stacie Orrico has a great voice. On this concert CD, you get a sense of how good her voice really is.

For me, to make a live concert or concert CD/DVD special, I want to hear some different treatment to the songs or some other special treat, not just the album songs performed live. There are a couple touches like that on here. At the end of the beautiful pop ballad "I Promise," Stacie leaves the stage to do a costume change, and the song is extended with a nice saxophone solo. On the single "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life," she starts it out slow, instead of with the beat, and then has the audience sing the chorus to her, before she kicks off the song at regular tempo. But the highlight of the "different" element of this concert is her performance of an Ella Fitzgerald song. She says that she grew up listening to Ella Fitzgerald, and when you hear her sing this song, you hear an entirely different Stacie Orrico come to life. The song is true-to-life jazz, even using an acoustic bass, and Stacie shows complete command of the jazz vocal style. Her outfit of a 1920s style pink dress and pink feather boa add to the effect.

Those are my favorite moments of this concert. The rest is mostly just straight performances of the songs from the album, but again, her vocal skills are more salient in this DVD.

A bonus to the concert is the inclusion of the music videos of her two singles. I really like both videos, but in both music and video concept, "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life" is definitely superior.

    5 out of 5 stars Excuse Me!?.......2004-11-27

Whoever said Stacie is not in the same league as lip-synching, sex selling women needs a serious reality check! Stacie is an amazing singer, far better than those mentioned. She performs her songs live and her dancers don't look at all like they are...you know what I mean. Her songs are about deeper things than just relationships. This DVD is amazing. I have been a long time fan of hers and it blew me away. Her voice sounds better live than on the cd! So, if you would like to see a TRUE artist then buy this dvd. It's worth it!

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing Concert.......2004-11-13

Before beginning my review of the DVD, I have to quibble with the review below that stated Stacie was not "in the same league" as Hilary Duff, Britney Spears, et al. First and foremost, Stacie is a far different artist from those mentioned below. For the most part, her songs speak about God and the challenges/triumphs she faces as a young Christian woman. Her material is not sexual (while that of some of the aforementioned performers is). The dancing featured in the DVD is more athletic than sensual and Stacie also performs all of her songs live (unlike a couple of the others previously mentioned).

Filmed in Tokyo in 2004, Live in Japan features material from the entire "Stacie Orrico" album (with the exception of "That's What Love's About"), two tracks from her debut cd "Genuine", and a lovely rendition of Ella Fitzgerald's "Can't We Be Friends". The musicianship is impeccable (highlights include Stacie herself playing the piano on "Strong Enough" and "Dear Friend", the jazz interlude, and an acoustic rendition of "Maybe I Won't Look Back") and the dancers are spirited and enthusiastic. Also included are the videos for "Stuck" and "(there's gotta be) More to Life" (a bit of a disappointment since the DVD was previously advertised as including the videos for "I Promise" and "I Could Be the One" which were only released overseas, not in the United States). Overall, this is a wonderful concert appropriate for all ages. Definitely a great buy for fans of Stacie Orrico or those who wish to learn more about her as an artist.

3 out of 5 stars Good Concert DVD.......2004-11-07

Overall this is a pretty good concert DVD. Stacie has excellent potential moving forward. At this time, this is not quite in the same league as Hilary, Shakira, Kylie, Britney, Beyonce, et.al.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Like the other guy said - buying this one is a no-brainer.......2006-10-28

I had to leave two negative reviews today so I thought I'd put in a positive one before I left. I saw Kasim Sulton this morning on the Today Show playing bass for Meat Loaf and was in a way disappointed that such a phenomenal talent stands there in the background. I think that in "Redux," Sulton steals the show, but I think that's the way that Utopia was - anyone who sang lead came across as as the band's frontman. From switching lead with Todd Rundgren in "Hiroshima" and "Last of the New Wave Riders" to Kasim's incredible performance of "Back On The Street," you have to wonder just how Utopia could have been so prolific with four members all so loaded with talent that any one of them could have fronted a successful band. Willie Wilcox belted out "Princess of the Universe" with amazing force in the second cut, and Roger's "Caravan" was a great transitional piece in the middle of the set. I only wish that "Trapped" were included in this video, since Kasim was on such a roll. Other than that, this hits on all cylinders. Although it lacks the historical significance of the Boston, Columbus and Royal Oak DVDs, the "Redux" video and audio quality are fantastic - the best by far of any Utopia performance DVD.

      4 out of 5 stars Fun Show.......2005-10-01

Pretty good effort all around. The atmosphere is loose and the music is right on. Lots of smiles and exhuberance but I could have done without some of Roger's Yanni-like gyrations. Some reviewers have said that seeing only 55 minutes of the show is kind of a disappointment, but there's enough here to put a smile on your face and take you back to some fun times. If you're a fan, for fifteen bucks it's a no brainer.

5 out of 5 stars Great, just too short!.......2001-10-30

Only 55 minutes long, this DVD concert is still a gem! All 4 members take a turn on lead vocals, but of course Todd Rundgren is the centerpiece here, and justly so. Opens with great song called "Fix Your Gaze". I am new to the most of the Utopia material, but I've been a fan of Rundgren's solo stuff for many years. This great concert, dynamic in picture and sound, is a great introduction to Utopia's brilliance.

      5 out of 5 stars "The Best " Todd/Utopia DVD Available........2001-05-16

I have purchased several Todd/Utopia DVD and videos. This is the best. A definite must have for any Utopia Head. Excellent vide and audio quality. I only wish the DVD had more songs on it. The songs are played full length and all band members sound great. I wish there were more of these.

5 out of 5 stars Utopia, we need you back!.......2001-01-02

I was glad to see this great concert film has finally been made available on DVD. This represents what was to be Utopia's last tour together. I remember how excited I was when I first heard that Utopia had reformed in 1992 (after lying silent for seven years after the release of 1995's underrated "POV"). This "reunion" was supposed to begin with a series of shows in Japan, which was then supposed to lead to further touring and a new studio album...but unfortunately for Utopia fans, things just didn't happen that way! However, we DO have this fine document of Utopia's short-lived 90's reunion, and it is a document that no fan of this band should be without! Although, like the original video release, the DVD only runs 55 minutes (I was hoping for some bonus tracks to finally be added!) the band put on a show heavy on energy, emotion, and excitement. If their was any personal conflict that lead to the early demise of this reunion, it is certainly NOT obvious from the smiling faces on stage. Some musical highlights include the rarely heard gem "Fix Your Gaze", the progressive rock anthems "Hiroshima", "Caravan", and "Just One Victory", and the high energy pop of "One World", "Love in Action", and "Princess Of the Universe". Watching this concert again, with the added sonic quality of full digital sound & picture, I really began to long for another Utopia reunion, and hey, with Todd Rundgren and Kasim Sultan now working together once again, how long before Roger Powell and Willie Wilcox join on for the ride?..It would be nice to see, wouldn't it? So, do I have any complaints about this DVD? Well, I would have liked to have seen some tracks included from the bands excellent late 80's works like "Oblivion" and "POV", as well as more material from "Swing To the Right" (and from what I understand, many of those songs were indeed played at the actual Japanese shows, but were edited out of the video release for reasons that could ONLY make sense to a record company executive!), but as good as this particular perfomance is, it's easy to overlook such complaints and just enjoy the show!
