Fun to see Scorpions again.......2007-05-12
I love the Scorpions and didn't realize that they were still around - I never seem to hear anything about them or their new music on the radio. Recently I was looking for one of their older video recordings, From Russia With Love, and I found this one instead. I've just about worn out my Savage Crazy World DVD so I decided to get this one and I thinks its great for anyone who has enjoyed the Scorpions in the past or is just discovering them. This band can still rock and I think they have a good lineup: Klaus Meine still sounds fantastic and the new drummer is great as are Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs. When the Savage Amusement recording was released I had the world's biggest crush on Matthias Jabs but I guess thats really beside the point. Anyway, I really like the mix of old songs and new. The crowd is really into the music and the Scorpions put on a great show. I'd love to see them; this disc has me hoping they come back to the US soon.

Unbreakable world tour 2004:One night in Vienna (SCORPIONS) DVD.......2006-11-23
One thing I learn about reading some reviews is that is not allways the case, you have to be a fan first and then the critic, reviewers have different taste in music was it the video? was it the audio?this is an example I won't even mention the reviewer's name but this is what happened keep in mind that every reviewer deserves respect first of all,He gave Michael Schenker a low star score but he gave Madonna 5 stars so you see he wasn't a guitar player fan,in the case of this DVD I think it was a pretty good DVD for the concert the videos and the interesting interviews I kind of balance the reviews and most important to check the profiles first before you make the decision to buy the item or not!
MUST HAVE DVD FOR ALL SCORPIONS FANS!!!.......2006-04-03
I JUST LOVED THIS DVD. MOST CONCERT DVD ONLY FOCUS ON THE SINGERS AND GUITAR PLAYERS. I REALLY LOVE THIS ONE SINCE THEY EVEN SHOW GREAT SHOTS OF THEIR DRUMMER JAMES KOTTAK!! HE IS THE BEST DRUMMER SINCE SLICED BREAD! HE PUTS ON A SHOW BY HIMSELF! ALL THE SONGS ARE GREAT AND THE PICTURE SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE RIGHT THERE IN THE FRONT ROW! HAVE NEVER SEEN A CONCERT DVD LIKE THIS BEFORE!
I'm so DIZZY!!.......2006-03-30
I sell music DVDs and I have to agree with the 1 star because of the fact the camers would not stop at one person. I was so dizzy after I watched the DVD I had a migrain! if you can handle being on a boat feeling sick, go for it. By the way the sound was good.

The end of a storied career.......2007-07-19
This very well recorded and filmed DVD shows one of the greatest jazz pianists of the 20th century in his 79th year. Oscar Peterson's ballads are sensitive and moving, particularly "Nighttime" and "Requiem." But the up tempo tunes are almost unlistenable to me, especially the opening "Falling in Love with Love" and his signature "Sweet Georgia Brown." Oscar just stumbles at trying to achieve his famous fast swinging dexterity, and his fingers just can't keep up with his brain. Ulf Wakenius plays the better up tempo solos on guitar, and Neils Pedersen is solid as always on bass. The surprise to me was the portly British drummer Martin Drew, who drives the quartet very efficiently. The bottom line is that there are much better DVDs and CDs of this jazz master from his earlier days.
Correction.......2005-01-26
Actually Jeff I have a diploma in music and an amateur Jazz Pianist. The other musicians are brilliant, Oscar is a Jazz Icon, a genius etc etc.
However, you don't need to be a musician to appreciate Oscar Peterson, or notice that the run on the introduction to Nighttime is completly missing (its not just slowness).
I'm sure most people in audience on the night probably wouldn't have noticed but on the DVD it is sad to watch.
I hope Oscar carries on playing, but don't think should companies should put out material (this DVD was borderline in my opinion) which poorly reflect his status as a great artist.
Depressing.......2005-01-17
The deterioration in OP's playing that began in the late 1980's was complete by the time this concert was recorded. You don't need to be a musician to realize that Oscar is not a well man and he can now barely play. A paralysed left hand and greatly weakened right hand means Oscar struggles with the simplest passages. Its a mystery why he continues to play and damage his legacy. The best thing about the DVD is the documentary at the end which is excellent.
A little slower, but still a great musician.......2004-12-03
I have to disagree with a few of the other reviewers, whom are obviously not musicians. Yes, Oscar is much slower, arthritis does that to you. Yes, the fast tempos are not what they used to be. Nevertheless, when it all connects, it still swings. His compostions continue to be inspiring and I play some of them in my own group. The other three members of the quartet are world class and overall, despite whatever short comings age brings, it is still a learning experience to watch and hear the concert. For true Oscar fans, there is a mystique about him at this point. The fans know they won't hear what they heard 15 years ago. They are there to see a living jazz icon. There will never be anyone like him again. I suggest purchasing anything you can find on Oscar Peterson. The story of his life is as inspiring as his playing. Thats my story and I am sticking with it.
Shame!.......2004-11-09
If you have tears, prepare to shed them now!
Watching Oscar's performance brought tears to my eyes. The deterioration in his health and lack of right hand movement makes a mockery of his past genius and talent.
In my view, a great disservice was done to the man to have released this DVD.
By way of example, compare his DVD performances at Montreaux '77

A nice selection of classical music........2000-08-30
With its selection of classical music and a variety of still photos of Austria, Night in Vienna is the perfect background piece for dinner parties. It is also possible to view stills of clouds or forests but I found those of Austria best suited to the music of Mozart, Haydn and Schubert. For example Mozart's Andante from the Piano Concerto No.21 is accompanied by a sweeping panorama of central Vienna which brought back many pleasant memories to me.
Of technical interest is that both the DD5.1 and DTS soundtracks have matching volume levels making a direct comparison between the two very easy. It may surprise many that the perceived quality improvement of DTS over DD5.1 is, at least with orchestral music, not as great as is often made out. Also two notes of caution with this DVD:
1) There is no PCM audio track so it will not play on a CD player.
2) In the 'speaker setup' section, the subwoofer test tone is 17db louder than the test tone for the other channels and will give an incorrect volume setting for the subwoofer
Overall not a bad DVD and a good accompaniment to similar DVDs such as those in the Naxos Musical Journey series.
