Cirque du Soleil - Alegria: An Enchanting Fable

Description

A film event inspired by Cirque du Soleil. Alegria is the touching story of Frac (Rene Bazinet), a street mime who has lost all love for his art and life, deciding to end it all by lying in front of an oncoming train. When his 11-year-old friend Momo (Clipper Miano) insists on joining the suicide attempt, Frac must save them both. The train carries a traveling circus, and when it stops, Frac catches sight of Giulietta (Julie Cox), the troupe's beautiful lead singer and performer. Frac falls instantly and rapturously in love, but to pursue Giulietta, he must overcome her father, Fleur (Frank Langella), the circus leader who disapproves of Frac. When Giulietta abandons the troupe to be with Frac and help save Momo from an abusive taskmaster who forces young children to sell flowers on the street, the wonderful cirque falls apart. Realizing that Giulietta must return, she and Frac help Fleur understand that the mission of the cirque is to console a suffering world. The show, like life, must go on. 93 minutes.

NOT Cirque du Soleil.......2007-08-25

If you are a big fan of Cirque du Soleil you will be sorely disappointed by this production. It is a movie loosely (very loosely) based around a Cirque performance. There are brief (very brief) glimpses of the Alegria performances. If you are looking for a DVD of the stage performance search for Alegria - Langella. The stage performance is a feast for the senses and a joy to watch again and again. Better still, if you get the opportunity, go see a live performance. It ain't cheap but it's worth every penny.

a thoroughly Cirque metaphor of life.......2007-06-06

I found this movie one of the best ever made, but it is not for everyone. It goes beyond standard Hollywood conventions, and you need to let your imagination run wild to be entranced by it. It's not meant to be a show and not meant to be a standard movie, but rather somewhere in between, breaking new ground.

If you love clowning and metaphorical images you'll love this movie. If you want something clear and solid, or a standard Cirque show, you might not.

It is a beautiful and magic story full of feelings. Even though is a little bit tangle, the moral about hope is very nice. Is good because it make you feel special, feel hopeless again. I recomended it.

this is a very touching portrait of the lives of circus performers versus the lives of 'regular'. A classic story of love and friendship.

Is a nice "fable". It deserves a 5 star, but I only give 4 because I feel that the film must show more the circus itself, all the acts that make it an unique circus.
I recommend it.
