They step onto the stage of London's Royal Albert Hall: Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Eric Clapton. The capacity crowd, which includes Sean Penn and Jude Law, stands to greet them. Thirty-seven years after their farewell concert, the famously fiery Cream did the unthinkable--they reunited. This double-disc collection (and accompanying CD set) captures highlights from the historic four-day engagement, beginning with a buoyant "I'm So Glad" and ending with a triumphant "Sunshine of Your Love." It would be churlish to suggest that Cream appears exactly as they did in the 1960s (Bruce looks a little frail), but the legendary power trio still has the goods. Bruce is still the essence of soul (a particularly rich vocal on "Politician"), while Baker is as irrepressible as ever (a rare vocal on "Pressed Rat and Warthog," percussive tour-de-force "Toad"). Then there's Clapton, who remains as much a master of the guitar as of understatement. "Thanks for waiting all these years," he quips after a slow-burning "Outside Woman Blues," then adds, "We're going to do every song we know." The track listing is, indeed, generous, despite the absence of such Cream classics as "I Feel Free," "Strange Brew," and "Tales of Brave Ulysses." All told, there are 22 songs plus three alternate takes--and not a bad one in the bunch. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
In May of 2005 Cream returned to London's Royal Albert Hall-to the same stage where they had completed what was thought to be their final performance in 1968. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated, hard-to-get tickets in rock history. With the exception of a brief reunion set at their 1993 induction into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, Cream had not played together in nearly four decades. This DVD documents Cream's momentous London shows. Performances from each of the four nights are featured and much more. Also included are alternate performances and interviews with Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton. Cream formed in 1966 and disbanded in 1968. The band were a prolific and thrilling live act and toured incessantly in their short but remarkable history.Track Listings: I'm So Glad, Spoonful, Outside Woman Blues, Pressed Rat & Warthog, Sleepy Time Time, N.S.U., Badge, Politician, Sweet Wine, Rollin' & Tumblin', Stormy Monday, Deserted Cities of the Heart, Born Under a Bad Sign, We're Going Wrong, Crossroads, Sitting on Top of the World, White Room, Toad, Sunshine of Your Love, Spoonful (Alternate Takes), Sleepy Time Time (Alternate Takes), Badge (Alternate Takes), Sweet Wine (Alternate Takes), Rollin' & Tumblin', We're Going Wrong, White Room, Sunshine of Your Love

Cream-cream of the crop!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-09-12
Don't believe everything you read in these reviews- this is a great DVD!!!!!! Yes, these guys are ALOT older, but man they can still COOK!!!! Clapton is relaxed, and the music just blows you away!!!!!!Think 30 years ago- it's a miracle these guys are still alive much less still cookin'-ENJOY this for what it is!!!!!
These guys can really play!.......2007-09-04
If you came from the era of loud music, psychadellic lights and excitement and remember the 60's and 70's you'll love this! Even if you were born later, this is still a great dvd to watch (who knows, maybe you'll see your parents!) The music is just as much fun today as it was then.
Outstanding!.......2007-08-23
Cream was my favorite band in high school and this production tells me why. Enough said. Love those guys, love their music. Bless them for getting together again. I treasure this DVD set.
Rock Stars are like pro athletes, they should retire by 45.......2007-06-25
I've read some of the delusional, worshipping comments of other's reviews here, and I just think they are all looking at Cream through Rose-tinted glasses. This put-back together band sounds slow, tentative, tired. Jack Bruce looks like they pulled him out of a nursing home to do this. Individually, they can still play, but their cohesion is slow- they are devoid of energy. Just go look at the other DVD, the one from the same place at the end of the 60s, and see the forcefull energy that band fired out there at the end of a comet-like three year run. The before-and-after contrast of 46 years is startling.
Cream's Triumphant Return.......2007-04-01
Crream's triumphant return is brilliantly filmed during their week in Albert Hall. The sound quality and photography is first rate, and the images are well-timed and skillfully directed.
The band itself is in top form and shows its musical age and experience brilliantly. Eric Clapton's guitar playing is as good as you will see or hear anywhere. Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker still are an exciting and stimulating rhythm section, and, in fact, Bruce does his famous duelling with Clapton on some of the numbers here. We see it especially in Sunshine of Your Love. Bruce and Clapton, despite their ages, still manage to sing their numbers with the same kind of verve as they did almost 40 years prior.
Of special interest here is the lack of gimmickry. There are no wah-wah pedals, for example, and no real distortion feedback effects. Stilll, the DVD has much to keep up the interest of the Cream fan who watches it.
No DVD of a live performance is perfect, and there are few but notable letdowns here. For instance, they include the witty but musically weak "Pressed Rat and Warthog" from the Wheels of Fire collection. The version of "Toad" here is rather long, and I'm not a fan of drawn-out drum solos, although Baker is amazingly energetic in this one.
Still, for any Cream fans out there, this is a fine DVD to have. You probably won't watch this just once!

Jack Nicholson was born to play the devil, and in George Miller's adaptation of John Updike's novel he plays it for all he's worth. As a wolfish womanizer summoned by three bored women in a picturesque New England town, he's sating all of his appetites with a rakish grin. Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeiffer play the women who discover their untapped magical powers by accident. The smart and sexy singles, out of place in the conservatism of their village, find happiness, however briefly, in the arms and bed of the libidinous devil, but he's got his own ulterior motives. Miller revels in the sensual display of sex, food, and magic, whipping up a storm of effects that finally get out of hand in an overblown ending. It's a handsome film with strong performances all around, but the mix of anarchic comedy and supernatural horror doesn't always gel and Miller seems to lose the plot in his zeal for cinematic excitement. The performances ultimately keep the film aloft: the hedonistic joy that Nicholson celebrates with every leering gaze and boorish vulgarity is almost enough to make bad form and chauvinism cool. --Sean Axmaker
Description
Need someone with demonic dash to portray the Devil? There are only two choices. Old Ned himself. And Jack Nicholson. The Witches of Eastwick to the better actor-and came up with the sleekest, sexiest supernatural comedy/thriller to emerge from this or any other world, earning Nicholson 1987 Best Actor Awards from the New York and Los Angeles Film Critics. The "witches" are in three modern-day women yearning for Mr. Right in a quaint New England town full of Mr. Uptights. Played glowingly by Cher (Moonstruck), Susan Sarandon (Lorenzo's Oil) and Michelle Pfeiffer (The Age of Innocence), they're lovely enough to tempt even the most jaded netherworld denizen. Soon, wealthy Daryl van Horne (Nicholson) arrives. Is his sudden appearance a coincidence? Or the outcome of the women's unconscious sorcery in this smooth adaptation of John Updyke's novel? Conjure up an evening's entertainment with The Witches of Eastwick. And have a devil of a good time.
Customer Reviews:
Please tell me it hasn't been 20 years. . ........2007-06-07
. . .but sadly it has. I cannot believe I first saw this film in the theater way back in 1987. I think I may have liked it better back then, but it's still pretty good. The acting is wonderful: Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon (Cher never seems to change, but the other two look really young in this), Veronica Cartwright (chewing up the scenery), the dad from "Six Feet Under" and, of course, Jack Nicholson, who was born to play a horny little devil. He's terrific. I love the little town it's filmed in, and the special effects aren't bad either. I'm planning to see the musical version of this film next week, which should be interesting. That's why I watched it again tonight, just to refresh my memory. I know I liked the book better, but this film adaptation is good. Not great. It just doesn't have that extra zing to put it over the top--but worth watching.
Like "Click" for girls!.......2007-04-18
This is an entertaining movie, unless you know several girls who are under the impression you are Satan, then you might want to not let them see it. They'll probably see it anyway. Girls are resourceful like that. If they do, do your best not to act like Satan and you should be ok.
One of my movies...........2007-04-17
Love this movie as this type of movie
fits me to a tee. It is a entertaining
movie to watch. Nicholson is always
great to watch but Cher, Susan and Michelle
are absolutely perfect too.
I highly recommend this movie.
"Who are you? Just your average, horny little devil", .......2007-04-09
Jack Nicholson gives his funniest and one of the finest performances as Mr. Darryl van Horn, the mysterious and wicked man who arrives to the quiet and sleepy little town of Eastwick after three women, the Blonde Souki (Pfeifer), the Redhead Jean (Sarandon), and the Brunette Alex (Cher), best friends and witches dreamed him up as a man who can bring some changes and excitement in their lonely lives.
Several great actors have played the Prince of Darkness during their careers but Nicholson was born to play a "friendly" devil that can seduce any woman with no exception by becoming exactly what she wants him to be. The scenes where Nicholson seduces Alex (Daryl Van Horne: Well, if that's how you feel about it, then that's how you feel about it. Is THAT how you feel about it?), Jean, and Souki are among the sexiest I've ever seen.
The movie has too many vomiting scenes for my liking, and the visuals are sometimes too screaming but Nicholson is delightful. I never thought that playing cello could lead to such flaming results - and I used to play it. :)
7/10
Wicked fun.......2007-01-28
I remember watching this movie on cable ages ago as a kid and I enjoyed it.Now as an adult I love it: Great acting, great dp work, story is funny, sexy, dark and sassy. Special effects are not bad at all considering it's a 1987 flick.
A strange man, apparently summoned by three frustrated women, shows up in a perfectly ordinary American town. He soon will change their lives for the better or the worse.Filled with magic, symbolism and detail, the movie catches our attention from the start.
However, like another reviewer pointed out, the only difference between this DVD release and the one from 1997 is the case. The image and sound are not bad but the movie hasn't been restored at all. Some scratches and white speckles are present throughout the film.
My advice is, if you own the 1997 version of this DVD don't waste your money buying this reissue...Unless you like the new cover better.

This charming Cuban film details the unusual relationship between the flamboyant, educated Diego (Jorge Perugorría) and the young, homophobic, pro-Revolution David (Vladimir Cruz). Miserable at being dumped by his girlfriend, David at first spurns the attentions of Diego; however, at the prompting of his Communist roommate, Miguel (Francisco Gattorno), he cultivates an acquaintanceship with Diego in order to investigate his liberal leanings. Of course, Diego's cultured ways prove fascinating to the younger man and a true friendship grows. Add the slightly crazy neighbor Nancy (Mirta Ibarra), who frequently attempts suicide, as romantic fodder for David, and this playful drama becomes a heartwarming film. Disputed in its own country, this film was the first Cuban picture to be nominated for best foreign picture at the Academy Awards. --Jenny Brown

Customer Reviews:
From Cuba with Love.......2007-08-15
"Strawberry and Chocolate"
From Cuba with Love
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
"Strawberry and Chocolate" is a celebration of life and non-conformity. It is about two men, one gay and one straight and how two very different people are really very much alike. They both love their homeland, Cuba and they learn what it is to love a human. Realism is the key to the movie and we also get a look at Cuba in ways we have not been privy to.
Diego is a cultivated but skeptical gay man who falls in love with a heterosexual Communist who is filled with prejudices and revolutionary ideas. The two men learn to love each other and overcome intolerance.
Set in contemporary Havana, the city seems to have lost some of its sheen and luster since Castro came to power. David (Vladimir Cruz) is a student and a strong Castro supporter. He is rebounding from the loss of his girlfriend. When his girlfriend decides to marry someone else, David goes to the wedding and there he meets Diego (Jorge Perugorria).
Diego is a flamboyant gay male and cannot disguise the sexual interest he has for David. When he sits himself down at a table in a sidewalk café and orders chocolate ice cream, he explains that some people like chocolate and some like strawberry. Thusly the film receives its name and hints at the relationship between the two men.
Diego wants to give David the education that he never received and he lures David to his apartment. David informs the government that Diego wants to see a forbidden art exhibit and is directed to become his friend in order to obtain more information about him. The two themes of the film are anti-gay resistance in Castro's Cuba and the betray-your-neighbor theme imposed by the police state.
Things go awry because no one conforms to what is expected of them. Everyone plays the government's game in public but they do exactly what they want in private.
Jorge Perugorria as Diego gives an amazing performance. His character develops from a limp-wristed clichéd gay man at the beginning and he later becomes a fascinating study of a man in conflict with the government because he is different on every level from what the system wants. He is a man with an independent spirit, a man who genuinely loves the arts and he is disappointed by the ideals f communism.
Vladimir Cruz as David also turns in a fine performance as a naïve young man who discovers beauty through his friendship with Diego. He also finds himself seriously committed to a person for he first time.
The way the two men develop a friendship is amazing. The story is somewhat of a coming-of-age story because David learns how to think, gains a new maturity of sprit and can now develop a loving and mature relationship with a woman as a result his friendship with Diego.
It is good to have a "sweet" film about accepting difference and learning to accepting other points of view. It's not a gay movie--it is a movie about friendship and about the love that Cubans hove for their country. Havana is photographed beautifully but we see the heartbreak of the city. Showing how Cubans must feel when they have to leave their country and the difficulty with that is also an emphasis of the film.
Nominated for the Oscar as the best foreign film in 1995, it is hard to see how this movie did not take home the prize.
Fascinating Cultural Experience.......2007-05-13
This movie was fascinating from beginning to end. I am not familiar with the Latin culture depicted in this movie and that made it all the more interesting to me.
Dull.......2006-08-14
This is a foreign film from Cuba. It's a story of a developing friendship between a gay man Diego who enjoys the finer things in life and a young Communist student. A first the student David is repelled by Diego and had to be manipulated to go to Diego's apartment. Slowly, David becomes Diego's buddy and he explores new ways at looking at life. Diego neighbor Nancy gets romantically involved with David.
Truthfully, this movie bored me. I don't care if it got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.
A Different Kind of Buddy Movie.......2005-12-23
In this unique type of buddy movie we see how easily friendship and tolerance flourish amid the paranoia of the day.
David is a college student with a sheltered education. Diego is a comically charming gay intellectual who tries to pick him up over a dish of ice cream.
Underscored with political criticism and laced with clever dialog this movie presents modern day Cuba as a place where its easy to be ostriacized. Smart, funny and superblly acted, this film makes you think and makes you laugh.

Customer Reviews:
Master of Horror? Most of the movies in this series run from.......2007-09-10
bland to mildly entertaining. You'd think with all of the experience these "Masters" have the movies would be wet yer pants scary. But they're not. The sad part is most of these movies have a good premise and could be developed but for some reason they pull back and mute the horror. Why? I don't know. Again, this Ice Cream Demented Clown movie could have been really scarey but it's just so much melted ice cream.
Fun, Creepy & Stupid! -- coulrophobics beware!.......2007-08-17
Yes fellow horror fans "We All Scream For Ice Cream" is on the cheesy side of horror(although Forsythe is excellent as both good guy/bad guy versions of Buster the clown). The film is just littered with bad dialog oozing from the mouths of the other players, but when you mix it in with the creepy story and the goofy tongue & cheek way that buster kills off his victims you can't help but be reminded of another fun 80's clown flick loaded with cheese in "Killer Clowns From Outer Space". Speaking of the 80's, if this film was made back then it would have fit in perfect with the times and something tells me it would be one of those fun cult classic movies from the 80's that horror fans(like myself) would be eagerly waiting on it's dvd release. Could have been much better but I enjoyed it for what it was...fun,creepy & stupid!
Entertaining.......2007-08-16
I didn't think this was too bad of a movie. It was definitely entertaining. It wasn't petrifying but most of the newer Masters of Horror movies aren't really scary.
Personally, I like "b" killer-clown horror movies so that's probably why I thought this movie was entertaining. This movie is more of a renter, I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you want to buy the whole collection.
An Ice Cream Man is back from the dead to exact revenge.......2007-07-14
This actually wasn't all that bad. It wasn't scary but it did have an interesting story line somewhat similar to Stephen Kings "IT". It may be worth checking out if you aren't expecting too much in the way of horror, and it's only 57 minutes long.
[insert "Ice Cream" punned title].......2007-06-19
Ok, to begin with... this is probably the most wholeheartedly fun episode of them all for season 2! Granted, if you ge this expecting horror and terror, its not there (well... some parts are creepy), but really.. this is just good ole fashioned entertaining. I mean, come on... William Forsythe plays a semi retarded clown ghost out for revenge! Thats a selling point right there!
I'm not going to go into the plot very much, but this episode is VERY cheesy - but also VERY entertaining. I liked it, and I recommended it to anyone who enjoys the MOH series.
Overall, its just a good way to spend 55 mins. Its hilarious, fun, creepy, and amusing. Its a good time throughout ... without the calories.

The 1981 stoner comedy Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams is the third of Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin's movies together, a meanderingly silly but agreeable farce about two clods selling marijuana treats from the back of an ice cream truck. Oblivious to an investigation by a couple of idiot cops whose boss (Stacy Keach) is constantly high from smoking evidence, the boys stumble through one crazy vignette after another. A few of these scenes feel like satiric spins on bad experiences Cheech and Chong might have had in the recording business, such as an evening spent with an obnoxious band manager who mistakes Tommy for Jerry Garcia and steals the Chinese food right off his restaurant table. Other craziness includes a night of sexual bliss interrupted by the arrival of a party girl's "Mexican-hating" biker-boyfriend, and incarceration in a padded room, where Timothy Leary supplies psychedelics to the clueless anti-heroes. Paul Reubens, Sandra Bernhard, and Linnea Quigley turn up in supporting roles. --Tom Keogh

4 1/2 STARS FOR THIS CLASSIC AND LAST GREAT C&C FILM!.......2007-07-25
This is another impressive installment in the Cheech & Chong movies. This is the third movie in the series and like the others I saw them all at the theater when released. Great stoners comedies don't come around to often! This DVD could use an up grade like all the others.
Where're their heads at?.......2006-08-11
This is the third Cheech and Chong film, coming after Up in Smoke (1978) and Cheech and Chong's Next Movie (1980). The films are a series in the traditional way--characters continue, and there is something of a linear development per the films' chronologies of the characters, but as with the plot of this film in isolation, the threads holding it all together are pretty thin.
In Nice Dreams, Cheech and Chong are selling dope from a barely disguised ice cream truck. They may have struck it rich by this point, or maybe Cheech just doesn't know how to read numbers very well. At any rate, they do not seem to be hurting for money--they have a bag of it, after all, which they have to pursue later in the film--and somehow, they're living in a very expensive, big house on the beach outside of Los Angeles, although it seems that maybe they're just crashing at a friend of a friend's place while he's away (he's a musician on tour).
A lot of it is pretty unclear, because the last thing that Cheech and Chong as writers and director (only Chong in the latter case) are concerned with is telling anything like a traditional story. Instead, it seems like maybe they were high while they wrote and filmed this. That's usually meant as a negative--the idea is to denote how little sense the work makes, or how little coherence it has. I don't mean it that way here. I don't mean it as a knock, necessarily. I mean it literally, and consequently to underscore a kind of stream-of-consciousness, absurdist and surreal flow. Those can all be very positive qualities, as they are occasionally here. But maybe Cheech and Chong were just looking for the easiest way to string together a number of sketch ideas, and not enough sketch ideas, because some of them are drawn out or reprised past their freshness date. And that probably goes for the whole premise of Cheech and the Man (Chong) selling dope and getting into wacky situations while being pursued by Sgt. Stedanko (Stacy Keach). Nice Dreams feels too much like Cheech and Chong are just coasting--vamping while waiting for the next soloist to start. Although I love experimentation as much as anyone else, this is a film that would have benefited from a stronger focus on telling a story in a traditional way. I don't always think that something different is better just because it's different.
So this is definitely a step down from the first two films, although there are more than enough funny moments to keep a fan of the first two films mildly entertained, and most of the supporting actors, including the returning ones, are enjoyable and had even more potential. Some skits (that word fits here better than "scenes"), like the crazy house and the fiasco at Donna's apartment, and even the "Save the Whales" song, are as good as most of the material in the first two films. But overall, it just seems like their hearts, and maybe their heads, weren't as much into making a film time around.
2 funny guys in a very strange film!.......2006-02-20
This was a very weird film with lizard people and pot smoking cops. Bits are funny, but the weirdness definately permeates through most of the film, especially a sequence near the end where Cheech & Chong are being held in a padded cell. trippy stuff, which kept me interested, but not as funny as I had hoped. Up in Smoke still remains my favorite in the Cheech & Chong series.
Good Times Watchin Nice Dreams!!.......2005-10-17
Great Flick to kick back and toke a big fatty to, gotta love this one! But wtf is up w/PeeWee Herman's "Hamburger Dude" character??? They must have been on acid when they thought that up...Speaking of acid, Dr. Timothy Leary makes a cameo which is totally awesome! yeah, rock on Cheech & Tommy!
Prolly my Favt Cheech and Chong movie........2005-07-03
I liked this movie alot and I have seen it about 20 times. It is just laid back and does not take a lot to follow it.
From the point where they sell there weed out of there old Ice Cream truck and are followed by cops and Sgt Stedanko who a couple years earlier was a serious cop and now makes bust to get the weed. Then they get some weed from Jimmy's house. Then they find out they made 17 million from the deals and celebrate and by goibg out to eat. There is a lady who things chong is Jerry Garcia. Then a Ex girlfriend of Cheech is there with Hamberger dude(Pee Wee Herman)and they do coke. After this She along with Cheech and Chong go back to the hotel for a 3 way.
Then her Husband a convict that escaped comes to beat up and Cheech escapes naked and goes up and down a elevator shaft. When they finally get out Cheech finds out Chong gave Hamberger dude all the money and they look for him at Casa Del Wacko's.

Cream's 2005 reunion (after a mere 37 years apart) was big news and a very hot ticket. But anyone wondering what the fuss was all about is unlikely to get much enlightenment from Cream - Farewell Concert. The trio's (guitarist Eric Clapton, bass player Jack Bruce, and drummer Ginger Baker) November 1968 gig at London's Royal Albert Hall, the same venue chosen for their reunion, may have been a spectacular display of their instrumental virtuosity and legendary improvisational skills, but you'd never know it from this sub-par document. The sound has been digitally remastered, but the audio is still a turgid sonic sludge. The visuals are even worse, with director Tony Palmer jerking the camera around as if this were an episode of NYPD Blue, layering the picture with dated and distracting psychedelic light effects, and providing far too many close-ups of Bruce's teeth (and almost no wide shots of the entire band). As for the music, well, it's apparent that these boys really could play; surprisingly, Baker's jazz-inflected drum solo is one of the highlights. But their reliance on extended blues jams ("Spoonful," "Sitting on Top of the World," etc.) belies the fact that despite their dismissal of commercial rock music (cf. Bruce's lofty claim in an accompanying interview that "we wouldn't dream" of trying to write a hit single), Cream's four studio albums contain some wonderful pop songs. Farewell Concert includes "Sunshine of Your Love" and "White Room," but for a much more satisfying taste of what they were all about, try the CD or DVD versions of Cream - Royal Albert Hall - London May 2-3-5-6 2005 instead. --Sam Graham

Hey y'all hippies out there - this is great! .......2007-09-04
A lot of this was before my time, but I do remember the songs once old enough to enjoy. It's a fun "go back in time" rememberance to the way things were back then. Ginger Baker's drum solo will just blow you away - even today!
It's a horrible necessity for a Cream Fan.......2007-06-15
If you were a kid glued to a TV set in the 60's waiting for Beatles,Stones, etc, after suffering thru TopoGigio on the Ed Sullivan Show you'd have some reward. Everytime you watch a modern concert broadcast/dvd and notice that the camera pans to the bassplayer everytime the guiitar player solo's you have this film to thank. Someone did mention this was not atypical. If you were lucky enough to see Clay Cole Show, Pete Seegar's Rainbow Quest, the above mentioned Ed Sullivan Show and others you were treated to professional camera work. If the guitar player turned his back on the camera as George did no harm no foul. I saw Cream at Hunter College then went into the service in 1968 so I was really psyched to see this film after I survived vietnam and seeing it was really a downer. By then you could also see Roy Buchannan on PBS and there they got it right. As a piece of music history I had to give it a 4 because no one knew who they were when they were together and this is a document no matter how flawed.
The DVD is waiting at the "Crossroads".......2007-06-04
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.
When the opportunity presents itself to witness one of the most important nights in musical history (November 26, 68) the last thing we should be concerned about is criticizing video director Tony Palmer's camera angles and choice of shots of the band.
The preservation of history and the performance of Cream should outweigh what you have already been told about the quality. While the audio has improved it is not going to sound like a George Martin production. This isn't to make you think twice about the purchase. It is a must own! Cream will always be one of the finest bands to ever assemble. Call them a Supergroup, a power trio, virtuosos, or any other cool phrase, but the letters spell it perfectly C R E A M.
For two years Eric, Ginger, and Jack commandeered the concert stage. They amazed the masses with the ability to take the three minute blues and rock song and extend it until you were sucked in to a tidal wave of sound not wanting to let go.
Cream's ability didn't start and cease with their domination of the concert halls. They had the songs and the rare ability to make a cover sound like they both wrote it and perfected it.
If the entire DVD only contained "Crossroads" it would be worth every cent. Eric's two solos are the standard that all others are judged against.
Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

Here's Mud In Your Ear--But So What.......2007-05-14
"Rockumentaries" were still in their infancy when this concert film (cum interviews) was shot, and it's good to keep that fact in mind when viewing the DVD of Cream's FAREWELL CONCERT. As other reviewers have noted, the sound is quite muddy, the camerawork is fairly primitive, and the interviews are only somewhat informative. But it is CREAM after all, and they were the first and (arguably) the best supergroup.
How to deal with the aural sludge? Well, the technique that works best for me was one I devised when still a mere slip of a teenager (OK, OK, I was never much of slip of anything back then--but you know what I mean). Back in the day, whenever I was at a concert with really bad acoustics, I used to home in on the bass. That was my anchor, and then I found that I could then better pay attention to what the other musicians were doing as well. Usually, it worked like a charm. And it certainly helped in watching this old footage from '69 too.
I gather there'll always be some debate as to whether the group was still at the top of their game for this "farewell" concert. Objectively, I'd have to say that the instrumental work here still seems strong. Jack Bruce's vocals--always a secondary concern, of course--sound more strained than they did on some other live recordings, and certainly moreso than they did in the studio.
As others have noted, the DVD is probably more noteworthy as a historic document than as a source of aesthetic pleasure unto itself. That's not to suggest that it is totally devoid of such pleasure, however. You just have to dig a little deeper to truly dig it.
THIS LEGENDARY CONCERT MARKS THE FAREWELL AND END TO ROCK'S GREATEST THREE-MAN BAND EVER........2007-03-06
I would like to do a follow-up and add to my friend Metamorpho's excellent reviews of CREAM'S legendary albums with the spectacular DVD concert entitled "CREAM FAREWELL CONCERT." I will also do another review on the DVD concert entitled "CREAM REUNION CONCERT" from May 2005 at a later date. In my opinion, I feel that this is the only way to end the CREAM series on a good positive note and not the way CREAM tragically ended at the Royal Albert Hall on 26 November 1968. This one's for you Metamorpho and for the MIGHTY CREAM.
I will be writing a review on the legendary historic farewell DVD concert entitled "CREAM FAREWELL CONCERT" by Rock's greatest three-man band ever assembled. I give you one of England's pride and joy's, the one and only, THE MIGHTY C-R-E-A-M. This legendary DVD film edition is a big improvement as far as film and sound quality is concerned. This legendary film saw its premiere and first day of release in 1969. There exists a perfect video version of this concert but has yet to be released. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary DVD concert or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible. And now, without further delay, it is time for me to take you back in time to the "CREAM FAREWELL CONCERT" from 1968.
CREAM will forever be remembered as being Rock's first true supergroup and for being the greatest three-man band in Rock n' Roll history. Their music style would consist of the blend and mixture of Blues and Rock n' Roll but CREAM would forever change how this mixture would be played. Songwriting credits as well as music differences and tastes were now starting to take a toll on the friendships of all three members especially between bassist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker. From what I've read in CREAM'S biographies, Bruce and Baker's fights were legendary and its really a wonder that CREAM actually lasted as long as it did. However, the article that came out in Rolling Stone magazine in 1968 in reference to Eric's guitar playing would hurt Eric Clapton so deeply that it would be the final straw and finally draw the curtains to a close of one of Rock's greatest legendary bands of all-time. So the stage was set, the date, 26 November 1968. The place, The Royal Albert Hall in London, England. The occasion, CREAM'S farewell concert to Rock n' Roll.
The complete concert was filmed but only a certain few songs made this DVD edition. The concert begins with the legendary blistering heavy metal (In diapers) Rocker "Sunshine Of Your Love," the groundbreaking CREAM trademark Blues Rocker "White Room," the energetic Rocker "Politician," the Robert Johnson rendition classic Blues Rocker "Crossroads," the breathtaking Blues Rocker "Steppin' Out," the slow smooth soothing Blues Rocker "Sitting On Top Of The World," the slow blistering powerful Blues classic "Spoonful," Ginger Baker's last stand "Toad" and the fast paced Blues Rocker to conclude this DVD concert edition "I'm So Glad." Also included in this DVD concert edition are rare off-stage interviews with all three memnbers that reveal their influences, techniques and feelings of each band member.
Overall, this is one hell of a concert worth seeking and checking out on DVD especially if you are a new and curious listener to the sound and music of CREAM for the first time.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary historic concert on DVD to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music DVD collection. This legendary DVD concert has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. The "CREAM FAREWELL CONCERT" DVD is part of Rock n' Roll history and is one of those priceless gems that you would not want to be without.
In closing, CREAM'S farewell concert performance on 26 November 1968 would mark the end of an era and close the book to one of Rock's most legendary bands ever. OR SO IT SEEMED. CREAM'S music and their influence on Rock n' Roll would be felt to this very day. Other legendary three-man bands that would be born from the same mold and follow in the glorious tradition of CREAM would be legendary bands such as GRAND FUNK RAILROAD and RUSH. CREAM would later receive the highest ultimate honor bestowed upon any great legendary band by being inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in January 1993. CREAM performed on that magical night and gave a breathtaking performance like they never broke up or left Rock n' Roll. In my opinion, that performance would set the stage, twelve years later in the making. But that, my fellow readers and reviewers, you will have to stay tuned and read further about at a later date. So here's to you Eric, Jack and Ginger. Thanks for the memories. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. LONG LIVE THE CREAM. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

Steve Buscemi, an icon of the independent film world for years, took the opportunity to write, direct, and star in this wistful low-budget gem. He plays Tommy, a Long Island loser who gets tossed from his job as a mechanic for questionable financial antics. He spends his days at a local bar, drinking his life away even as he denies that he's doing any such thing. And when he finally works up the gumption to get a job, he winds up driving an ice-cream truck in his old neighborhood--and getting involved in an inappropriate relationship with his teeny-bopper assistant (Chloe Sevigny), earning the violent enmity of her father (Daniel Baldwin). Low-key in its approach, the film has a sad humor that is both knowing and forgiving, as well as offering one of Buscemi's best performances. --Marshall Fine

Small, Rough...but Excellent. .......2007-02-28
I don't have anything controversial to say here as I basically feel the same way about Trees Lounge as everybody else. I loved it when I saw it a decade ago and my opinion has not changed in the time since. I rented it the other day and was as pleased as I was the first time around. Buscemi's virgin directorial effort could not have been more resonant. He portrays Tommy as both a hero and an anti-hero. The plot itself takes us to quite familiar places as there isn't anything too "Hollywood" about this production. It is not happy, but its realism offers great value. Trees Lounge has the type of feel that Ed Burns has tried to create continuously over his career, but was only able to do so in Brothers McMullen. All of the ambiguities shared by Buscemi and his cast in the film add up to one thing: life.
Buscemi's Masterpiece.......2007-01-22
This movie is all about the little things; It's the awkward comments and familiar situations that make you feel like you know these people and have been in their homes. Whether it's the fact Buscemi is a mechanic who doesn't have a working car, or the fact he is constantly being cheated out of cocaine, this movie brings a smile to my face every time. This is a slice of life type movie, filled with colorful but not 'pre-meditated' characters. I always got the feeling I was watching these people, not the actors playing them. This film derives much of it's humor from the problems that can plague any of us, from drug and alcohol problems to losing someone you loved to a best friend. There is lots to laugh at here, but has a nice dramatic side when needed. This was Steve's first movie from the directors side; When you couple that with his acting here, you can't say he didn't do everthing right here. Plus I never thought in my wildest dreams I'd ever see his mug driving an ice cream truck.
Buscemi directs with a sure hand..........2006-08-21
What a pleasant surprise this flick turned out to be. Always liked Buscemi's work as an actor, but had no idea he could direct...until I saw this film.
It's easy to relate to what this character goes through in this movie. Who hasn't been in a rut? Who hasn't felt this way?
You know you'd like to shake the Blues, get your life back on track...be happy about something, find meaning in your existance somehow...
I liked this quiet tale told in a relatively low-key way. Real nice.
Buscemi as Bukowski.......2006-03-05
A convincing portrait of the drinking life. If you ever had a bar period in your life, you'll recognize the people and events in this movie. Steve Buscemi should be writing and directing more movies. The cast is perfect, too. I haven't seen Barfly, but this movie is dead on. It's like a Bukowski novel without the gross-outs. In short, it has a heart.
I was Tommy.......2005-11-17
Man, what a great movie; very well done. This is funny, sad, dark, and real. Steve Buscemi (who also wrote, & produced) gives his best performance, & that's saying plenty. This movie's been reviewed well, and the story is about a guy, and the people in his life that you'll see in every town. Alcoholism is no joke, and the existance that some folks end up living in is a darkness that few understand. People don't grow up saying "I'm gonna be an alcoholic some day", but when you're in "the pit", this is what it looks like. I lived in a very similar state, and existance, and this movie struck a very special chord for me. You won't find the storyline focusing on recovery, it strictly shows you a guy after he's crossed the line, so to speak. The characters in Tommy's life a so realistic that I'd swear I'd met them before. It's not a typical "Hollywood" movie like "Clean & Sober"; this is where the lost, and the sick end up before death, or recovery.

My girls love this one!.......2006-12-02
We own all of the Strawberry Shortcake DVDs, and this is one my girls (7 & 5) watch over and over. My 5-year-old is a "horse girl, and she especially likes the story being told from Honey Pie's prespective. Good lesson that we all need friends like us as well as friends not so much like us. The second episode didn't bother my girls - they viewed it as a mystery. In the end, the raven is so moved by the friendship between the girls and Honey Pie that he helps Strawberry Shortcake.
Dissapointed Child Of the 80's.......2006-04-03
Strawberry Shortcake was my Favorite thing when I was little. So, naturally, I started looking for some of the old movies for my little girl. I really don't like the new look of Strawberry Shortcake and her friends, but bought this DVD for my daughter anyway. I love the smell of the DVD case, it smells just like my SSC doll that blows kisses that I got when I was 5. But the stories are really stupid, and the songs are painfully done. I don't know why they had to dumb it down so much. I personally miss the cuteness of the classic, as well as Sour Grapes and the Purple Pie Man. The villain in this is just rediculous. My daughter does like the first story, but won't watch the second one,(She's 3) the bad guy really bugs her. So, I am back to searching for the classics. I wish they would just put the old ones on DVD.
My daughter watches this over and over........2005-09-15
Strawbery Shortcake movies are one of the best selections you can get for your kids. Your children will learn things that will help them deal with everyday issues. I like the cartoon because you can understand all of it. It's not like some cartoons today that the parents have to wonder what it is teaching. The Strawberry Shortcake cartoons are great.
SONGS ARE HORRIBLE.......2005-09-10
There is no reason for the songs to be SO painful to listen to. The story is sweet, there is a bad guy but he is not dreadful. My daughter and niece love this one, especially the ponies. The girls don't seem to notice how bad the songsa are so it is only grating on my nerves. Certainly not a timeless treasure but cute and fun nonetheless and harmless in spite of the BAD GUY
Very cute, too bad there is a bad guy!.......2005-09-06
My daughters 8 and 4 love horses. So naturaly they love this DVD, however they hate the "bad guy" in it. All the Strawberry Shortcake DVDs we own are very happy so I thought this one would be like the others. They love the 1st episode on this DVD, but not so much the 2nd. Too bad the 2nd one has to be about a greedy guy who kidnaps Strawberry's horse!
