1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing.......2007-04-14

When I bought this item in a store, I looked over the list of videos on it, and saw that they ranged from "Player's Ball" (their first video) through "Hey Ya!" I figured that all the videos in that time period were on it. Unfortunately, of the 18 videos they did between and including "Player's Ball" and "Hey Ya!", only 10 are included. A better title for this DVD might be "Outkast: Some of the Videos"

The most notable ones missing, in my opinion are "Rosa Parks" and "In Due Time" which are two of my three favorite OutKast videos. However, OutKast also did videos for "Benz or Beamer", "Jazzy Belle", "The Art of Story Tellin'", "Git Up, Git Out", "Skew it on the Bar-B", and "Land of a Million Drums", none of which are included. Many of these videos have guest stars or are for songs from motion picture soundtracks. Perhaps the label did not want to deal with legal complexities. Whatever the reason, the omission is a huge downside to this collection.

On top of that, many of the videos which do appear have their lyrics censored. They took the time to make 5.1 Dolby mixes of the songs, but not the time to find uncensored versions of the songs. Also, several of the videos are widescreen, but they are not presented in anamorphic widescreen, but rather in letterboxed fullscreen. That is to say, if you have a widescreen television or computer screen and watch this DVD, many of the videos will be surrounded by a black box on four sides. Or, alternately put, this DVD contains lower resolution versions of the widescreen videos than it could have.

The videos which are present are good videos, but the presentation of them is very poor. Also, there is very little in the way of extras. The long video which has both "The Way You Move" and "Hey Ya" in it is interesting, but that's the only thing that you probably haven't seen already. This DVD contains no commentary and no making-of specials. There are the videos and a picture gallery, and that's all.

If you just must have the ten videos which are on there despite the kid-friendly audio tracks and the letterboxing, then go for it, but otherwise, I'd advise waiting for the record label to release a complete video collection with some worthwhile extras.

I hate censorship just as much as the next person, but personally don't care about the music videos lyrics being censored. If I wanted to hear the uncensored versions of the songs, I would just listen to the CD.

What I a dissapointed with this DVD is that there are a lot of music videos that aren't on here. Being a fan and growing up listening to Outkast, I bought this DVD hoping to see all of their music videos (I should have looked on the back cover). This DVD does give somewhat of an overview of the music videos (mainly their most popular that were shown). But what isn't on here are "Rosa Parks", "Jazzy Belle (remix)", "Skew It On The Bar B" and the list goes on. That to me was a very big dissapointment.

Also we have "Hey Ya!" and "The Way You Move" on here TWICE. There are two seprate videos, and we have them together in one long music video. I just don't understand that at all.

This DVD does showcase the music videos by Outkast, but some are not on this list, which I wasn't too happy about. This does have videos that everyone liked such as "B.O.B.", "Ms. Jackson", "Players Ball", "ATLiens". So casual fans of Outkast will like this. Me being a big fan of their music, this was a very big dissapointment. Buy this DVD, if you're into their most later hit songs, and want to check out how they were back in the day. Peace!

It was a non-authorized bio of THE BEST music group ever, OUTKAST. I don't wanna hate on it, becuase I love outkast, but it was weak, its probably made by some good true outkast fans that didn't have all they needed to put this dvd where it needed to be. There are no actual interviews, by outkast or by any celeberties, it was repetitive with the pictures, music, and videoes it showed, also the people on this dvd where saying the same lines over and over. Im just sad becuase I had such high exspectations but was let down, but Im not mad, becuase like I said, these where probably some true outkast fans that wanted to make a dvd, but if they weren't real fans then they should never ever have made such a disapointing video.

This here is another on what seems to be a long list of non-authorized dvds of the best music group ever, outkast. This one was better than some becuase of the people interviewed, Organized Nosie, outkast's old manager, Atlanta local celeberties, and other people of importance. It also didn't repeat itself, and used different backgrounds and music. It just didn't have actually interviews from Andre & Big Boi liked I had hoped, it also was a little cheap made and cheezy setup, but this dvd did have extras which others didn't, although they weren't good extras they where still something more.

On the strength of the surrealistic, irreverent videos for "B.O.B." and "Ms. Jackson," from the multiplatinum Stankonia (2000), it isn't hard to see why these Atlanta natives have become one of today's most successful rap acts. "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)" features hyperspeed vocals and an infectious beat. The video is a kinetic whir of dancing, driving, and running set against eye-popping shades of purple and green. "Ms. Jackson" is a melodic plea to the mother of a child born out of wedlock. The highlight of the video is the way in which the cats and dogs in the house get in on the act with Dre (Andre Benjamin) and Big Boi (Antwan Patton). Both videos were directed with flair by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off), who seems to have taken inspiration from the prolific Hype Williams, the innovative rap director who helped catapult Outkast's compatriot Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot to fame with the video for "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)." The DVD includes a six-minute interview in which Dre and Big Boi discuss the making of Stankonia, the inspiration behind "B.O.B." and "Ms. Jackson," and their evolution as musicians and producers. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Absolutely the best music video dvd I've bought. B.O.B. is the best rap video ever, up with there with "It was a Good day","Natural Born Killaz", "Triumph", and "If you really wanna party with me". This video is (...) incredible. It also has an interview and the "Ms.Jackson" video. I highly suggest you buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Psychedllic funkadellic video rap...........2001-02-14

I first saw the bombs over baghdad video on mtv one night with a friend and thought it was one of the best rap videos i had ever seen. In a time when most videos consist of nothing but diamond rings, lowered impalas, and other image related bs, outkast came out of the gate running with something totally new. The colors and the energy throughout the video are wonderful, and dvd is the perfect format, bringing great video detail to it. The video for ms. jackson is included as well, and is a good clip and a good song as well. You get some interview snippets as well, and as a total package, for the price, it's well worth it if you're an outkast fan.

5 out of 5 stars STANK-WONDERFUL.......2001-01-27

If you like a funky hip hop beat or would like to find out what stankonia is then this is for you. With the videos, "B.O.B." and "MS. JACKSON" you get a taste of both of Outkast's types of music. "B.O.B." for the upbeat hardcore listener, and "MS. JACKSON" for the soft funky listener. This video recieves a five for the creativity and originality that Outkast puts into all of their work. Let alone that the music is so good that i watch it almost everyday and it never gets old. The DVD is more than just videos too, so pleeze buy this. You will thank me.

3 out of 5 stars All the Basics ... Just the Basics.......2002-03-18

Well, this is the second major release in the "Uncovered" Series. The first one was a masterful DVD of KCi and Jo-Jo. This DVD, however, suffers from numerous production problems. It was made on the cheap, and it shows. The DVD is divided into three parts: documentary, trailers, and videos. The trailers are the worst part -- for a series of unrelated videos made by the same company. So, I'll focus here on the two other parts: the documentary and the videos.

The Good News (The Video Section):
This DVD contains six Outkast videos: SouthernPlayalisticadillacmuzik, Rosa Parks, Bombs Over Baghdad, Ms. Jackson, So Fresh, So Clean, and Ataliens. The videos are crisp and sharp -- but shown in Stereo -- not Dolby Digital.

Bad news (Missing Videos): These aren't all of their videos. This DVD, for no obvious reason, fails to include: FIVE videos. Those videos NOT included are: Da Art of Storytelling, Skew it on the Bar-B, In Due Time, Elevators, and Git Up, Git Up.

Good News - Documentary (General):
The DVD includes a behind-the-scenes documentary look at Outkast on the road and in the studio.

Bad News - Documentary (General):
The behind-the scenes documentary is intercut with those six videos above -- making it much shorter and more disjointed. It's also very short -- maybe a total of 35-40 minutes if you don't include the full-length videos.

Good News - Documentary (Content):
The documentary tells you some new things: like how Puffy directed one of their early videos, about what Dre 3000 and Big Boi look for in women, and how each of them broke into the rap business. The documentary also has insights from other people in the Dungeon Family and various producers of the albums. It even has a rare live performance.

Bad News - Documentary (Content):
Some parts of the documentary are like that bad Tupac documentary from a few years ago: they just interview random people who *sort of* know Outkast and say things like "so, how do you know Outkast?" or "What you think of Stankonia?" Also, the rare live performance sounds horrible -- like it was recorded in somebody's basement.

Very Bad Production:
The production on this DVD is shoddy. The sound is Dolby Digital, but with no surround for any of the videos. Also, the entire DVD lacks a time feature -- making you unable to determine where you are time-wise while you're watching it. (Probably because they didn't want you to know just how short it is!) Also, the separate section for the videos is actually linked back into the documentary -- so when you're trying to watch the videos separately, it just goes back into the documentary and plays forward from there. In other words, you can't play the videos back to back without watching the entire documentary!

Conclusion:
So, should you buy it? If you're a die-hard fan, you'll appreciate this DVD -- barely. But, if you're expecting a complete collection of Outkast videos or a detailed discussion of their albums and the history behind them -- you're going to be very disappointed. As a fan of Outkast, I'm pretty disappointed. This video was designed to capitalize on the success of Stankonia -- and it was rushed to market without much attention to detail. Buy it with caution.
