Customer Reviews:
Honest guys with an honest set!.......2007-08-16
Oh man, it's the 80's!!! I wasn't a Uriah Heep fan, per se, but I did know a little about them when I was coming up. Out of curiosity, and a lack of many good new bands, I bought this hoping I wouldn't be disappointed. Bottom line . . . I wasn't. These guys can play their instruments and that's saying something these days. Are you as tired of the "American Idol" syndrome as I am?!? It's just plain nice to see some rock veterans crank out a set, in a tight little club, and look like they did it out of the love of their music.
Even back when this show was shot these guys weren't doing this to be the next big thing on the fade-wagon. It's obvious from the setting that Heep's "big days" were done. With that said, I would have loved being in the audience when this set was captured!!! It is ssoooo time-trapped but it's an awful lot of fun too. If you hate the time frame, don't have a familiarity with the Heep or want a huge production, you better pass on this one. But, if you like guys who are going to keep grinding it out to play a sincere set of rock this one is for you.
A note to "A Viewer" below. I think Mick Box is still sporting that mustache! Incredible.
Goalby-Era Gold.......2005-09-14
This product is really a treat when you consider how difficult it is to find quality production and performance from this point in time. "Gypsy" (Live at London's Camden Palace 1985)is a no-frills DVD that simply provides a glimpse of Uriah Heep when Pete Goalby and John Sinclair were in the group. Sound and picture are surprisingly good and the band's performance is solid. The set list features songs from the Goalby-era alongside classic Heep tunes that Pete is able to deliver admirably:
Sell Your Soul
Stealin'
The Other Side Of Midnight
Too Scared To Run
Rockarama
Angel
The Wizard
Bad Blood
Gypsy
That's The Way That It Is
Look At Yourself
The highlight of the set for me is "Too Scared To Run" as they really rock out on this tune. Trevor Bolder aggressively attacks his bass (as usual) and Mick Box is studio perfect (as usual)on this high energy number. All in all, this video document is a fitting look at the band during this period.
Underrated Heep !.......2004-01-21
If you are a Heep fan buy this !I managed to get a copy of this concert on VHS which was for some reason recorded in EP mode? The DVD version has a much improved picture & sound quality. It is also unique in that is the only footage of the the band in Sinclair/Goalby era.Guaranteed, every Heepster will love this !

Great for Heep fans.......2003-03-29
Finally some live material from the Goalby period available in the US! This is really for Heep fans only, but is great if your a Heep fan. The sound is better then I thought it would, as sometimes these kind of releases are put together rather fast and have lousy audio. This is a decent 5.1 mix. No extras (the track by track reviews by some guy are dumb), and it's, as expected, 4x3.
As for the concert, it's in a small club, definately dated to the '80's but good. the old songs Goalby does good, not as good as Shaw, but good. But the real great thing here is the Goalby period stuff. 'Other Side of Midnight' just kicks butt, and isn't available anywhere else live. Other standouts, 'Too Scared To Run' and That's The Way That It Is'. 'Sell Your Soul' and 'Bad Blood' are fine. 'Rockarama' is just odd, very '80's!, 'Angel' is the only Goalby song I could live without.
The casual Heep fan should either get '73's Live CD w/ Byron or one of the newer Shaw Cd's or DVD's for the best live Heep stuff, but for the true Heep fan this will not dissapoint.
1985 is Alive.......2003-01-04
This was a pretty good-time DVD. I have to say I'm not a big Uriah Heep follower, but coming up in the 70s and 80s, you couldn't help but know a little about the band. It's definately dated but you got to love bands with talent to play live and a guitarist who can actually solo when most modern "rock guitarists" don't have the talent to do it. Mick Box rides his wah-wah pedal tastefully throughout.
The sound and picture are good. The venue is small and intimate. The times are dated. But still, this is a good ride even if it's just to see Mick's time-locked look of a big mustache and long hair. (Oh yes, and the band plays good too.)
