OUTSTANDING! The chance to see a true master of her craft share her talents and personality with no smoke or mirrors or whistles or bells. Just her voice, her guitar and herSELF. She performs songs rarely if ever done in her regular concerts, provides a master class in peforming that even nonperformers found great value in hearing, and tells some behind the scenes stories about how some songs came to be. A must have for anyone even remotely acquainted with Janis Ian, or even remotely fond of exquisitely talented singers and guitarists.

This DVD is a miracle in itself. No other artist is as down to earth as Janis Ian and she proves that in spades when performing the living room concert. Her signature classic, "Society's Child" is hauntingly beautiful when sung in this environment and the magic doesn't stop there. The master class in artistry is a chance to see a real pro in action, and I personally found myself glued to every word she had to say on various subjects, that you don't have to be in the performing arts to appreciate. Also, the interviews with the "Janismaniacs" are quite poignant and leave one wanting to hear more on this remarkable and gifted woman. Janis Ian aims to please and she is simply eloquent on this two-disc set.

This DVD gives you an up close look at Janis Ian and her most ardent fans. The weekend was put together to benefit The Pearl Foundation,a charity named for Janis' mother.Not many major talents like Ian would let their fans interact this closely.There is no apprehension or structured distance between her and those in attendance.It,indeed looks like a very fun time for all parties involved.Also, there is a Master Class taught by Janis Ian.What other performer would give you an insight into the work and the dynamics of being on stage and doing a live show? Not a musician or entertainer? No problem.Some of the lessons taught are also applicable to life situations as well.Run out and buy this DVD for a real,upclose look and very informal and informative look at Janis Ian and her faithful followers.

This DVD recreates an event unique in the history of American folk music: An artist of international renown "camping out" with 40 tenacious fans for a three-day weekend. What happened in Indiana that weekend was more than history, though. It was magic. The artist, her staff, the fans, and the Benedictine nuns came together looking like an unlikely ensemble at best. We parted three days later feeling like family. Janis Ian's music has always been about what ties us together as humans. She turned out to be as honest, as down-to earth, as gracious, and as beautiful as her music. This DVD does a wonderful job of sharing the artistry, the music, and an unforgettable magical weekend.

I was not one of the "Fab 40" who got to be there, but this DVD allows you to almost feel like you're a part of the whole event. The masterclass given by Janis is an insightful and informative disclosure of some of Janis' tricks of her trade. The Living Room Concert is a mixture of formal performance and humorous audience participation. The overwhelming feature of this 2 DVD package is the feeling of quickly developed camaraderie and group spirit. Most of the group had never met each other in person, knowing each other only from cyberspace.
This DVD is not a professional production, there are camera wobbles and the sound is not always the best quality, however, it is a remarkable record of an event which will probably never be repeated. This is the best way you're ever going to get to grab your piece of the magic.
