Does not meet the same expectations as some of the other's.......2007-07-26
While it is a Baby Genius CD it in no way compares with Favorite Nursery Rhymes and Favorite Children Songs which is the best, after getting all the Baby Genius CD's I would save my money on this one as it is not able to really keep their attention for very long, not much in the way of children interaction like some of the other's, maybe ok for younger children, our grand daughter was 18 months when she got it and she watched it the first time and didn't make it through the entire CD before she was bored with it.
Underwater Adventures.......2007-01-20
Would be much better if after each segment the screen didn't cut to black. I know this is so that you can decide if the next segment will be too long for the baby to pay attention, but on DVD's you could just select a section. There is no menu to do that with though. My baby doesn't really like it because everytime she gets interested, the section ends, cuts to black and she looses interest. She does like the music CD that came with it though.
Boring.......2007-01-18
My 2-year-old daughter is not interested in this at all. There are very few shots of children. It is mostly animals swimming around and does nothing to hold her interest.
Hayden loves fish!.......2006-11-03
My child really loved this DVD. Every baby genius dvd we have gotten him he has loved! I dont really like him watching anything else!
Very Engaging!.......2006-05-01
My son is 9 months and he is captivated every time I play this, or any of the 3 Baby Genuis DVDs we have. I have watched it with him and I think the reason it is so engaging is that the scene changes about every 5 seconds, which is about how long a baby's attention span is. It also has characters popping up in front of the screen, and it intrigues him enough to wait to see if someone or something (a character or a letter, etc.) pops up again.
It's great when I fix dinner or get ready in the morning! I even catch my 6 year old and her friends getting sucked into it as they play. I have bought a couple other videos for him by other producers and none of them hold his attention for more than 3 minutes. This line of DVD's definitely works for us!

John Frankenheimer updates the mutant-monster films of the 1950s with a modern environmental twist in this well-meaning but cliché-ridden late-'70s horror film. Robert Foxworth is so earnest it hurts as a rabble-rousing ghetto doctor who packs up his pregnant wife (Talia Shire) and heads out to the Maine woods to investigate claims of environmental pollution. That's the least of his concerns when a gooey mutant grizzly goes on the rampage and he joins forces with Native American activist Armand Assante (wearing his humorless resolve like war paint) to get out of the woods. Frankenheimer is a good director saddled with a bad, blunt script, and like a pro he delivers the requisite gore and even racks up the tension in a terrific opening chase. But even he can't overcome the clumsiest collection of deformed woodland creatures to claw their way through a monster movie. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
MUTANT MISERY.......2006-11-08
Considering the pedigree of this late 70s film, it should have turned out much better: a script by David Seltzer (the original OMEN) and director John Frankenheimer (MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE original). However, PROPHECY falls flat on its face, becoming a tired, dull and disjointed thriller focusing on the effects of mercury poisoning.
Ghetto doctor Robert Foxworth and his cellist wife Talia Shire are asked to go to the New England forests to decipher any ill effects from the large paper mill there. Native Americans led by Armand Assante and Victoria Racimo are protesting the cutting down of their forests, and when several people start turning up dead, the Indians are blamed. Turns out however that the mercury being dumped into the water supply is creating savage deformed mutants, including some of the hokiest creatures ever assembled. The main monster is an overgrown bear. There's little suspense or novelty in this film and the performances all look called in. A real disappointment.
Eco-Mayhem As 'Issues Awareness' Moviemaking Meets 'Great Horror Tale' Territory.......2006-10-26
1979's "Prophecy" (not to be confused with the "The Prophecy" series that started in the mid-90s) is an 'envirornmental destruction'-based horror movie that does a fine job of being both an 'issues film' and a great horror stories. It's set against the backdrop of deep forest territory where a logging company and the land's traditional Native American inhabitants are at odds over who really owns the land, and where tensions are fast mounting towards violence. A husband-and-wife team sent in to do an envirornmental assesment - more as an effort on the part of the authorities to stall and give things a chance to cool down than because they want any more studies - serve as the main point-of-view characters. Severely heightening the stress are a couple of unsolved disappearances in the woods over the last couple of months, which the company is openly accusing the natives of being responsible for.
It's readily apparent that something more than a couple of renegade protesters is behind the disappearances, but "Prophecy" doesn't rush right into it, letting its story and characters play out in other directions for a while before bringing in the more frightful elements when the time is right. Some would probably say the portrayal of the tribe is stereotypical; I really don't think it was. If it moves a tad in the direction of generalizations once or twice, it can be overlooked because its intentions are clearly in the right place. It's a sincere depiction of a group being squeezed more and more out of the picture due to economic considerations, and it paints a sympathetic and well played-out picture of the group without going so far as to have every member of the band both a saint and a super-shaman (although there is a lot of traditional folklore and some touches of mystism that I thought worked very well). As a whole, the movie is slanted more towards the native band than big industry - its 'issues' angle is one with a definate point of view and makes no apologies about it, and I think it did a great job.
The monstrous angles come in with great force and a sense of sympathy toward the movie's 'antagonists'. The creature effects are impressive and generally realistic; there are a couple of brief instances where you can 'see the wires', so to speak, but they're over quickly enough that it wasn't a big detraction for me. One thing worth remembering is that this was filmed in the 70s when special effects technology wasn't nearly as developed as it is today, and what was there was very expensive and thus often inaccessible to horror movies of the day because, while they were making a lot of money, studios were often reluctant to put much of it back in (a problem that's re-occured a few times over horror movies's history); as a result a couple of glitches occasionally snuck through. Overall, "Prophecy" was very well made - the visuals were great 95% of the time, good acting, very effective cinematography, solid drama, explosive action, genuinely frightening. Highly recommended.
Decent "Nature-Runs-Amok" Flick (Mutated Nature No Less).......2006-10-20
"Prophecy" was in the theaters at the very same time as the popular "Alien" back in 1979. I was 15 at the time and had the choice of seeing either one; I picked "Prophecy" only because I was so intrigued by the 15-foot tall grotesque monster that was supposed to be in the film. As it turned out, I thought the film was merely okay. "Alien" was a fair hit at the box office (with a far better monster) while "Prophecy" didn't do very well, causing director John Frankenheimer to plummet into a depression.
I decided to rent the film circa 1995 and, I don't know if it was nostalgia, but I thoroughly enjoyed "Prophecy" as an adult (as opposed to my first impression at 15). I've seen it quite a few times since then and enjoyed it every time. As far as comparing it to "Alien," I fully admit that "Alien" is technically a much better film, but through the years I've seen "Prophecy" about twice as often as "Alien." This proves, if nothing else, that "Prophecy" has re-watchable merit.
THE STORY: There are problems in Maine (although the film was actually filmed in the Great Northwest) between the paper mill and the local Indians. The Natives argue that they are somehow being contaminated by the industry. Robert Foxworth and his pregnant wife Talia Shire fly up to investigate and discover that mercury poisoning from the mill is the problem. They witness a handful of looney, overgrown or hideously mutated animals that verify their findings, most notably a mutated grizzly bear that looks like its been turned inside out (speaking of which, I didn't realize they had grizzly bears in Maine; although I suppose it could be an mutated overgrown black bear).
The tone of the story is completely serious so don't expect any camp like in the similar "Lake Placid." Robert Foxworth is excellent as the protagonist; I'm surprised he didn't have a more stellar career. Talia Shire ("Rocky"), the sister of Francis Ford Coppola, is meek and likable. Armand Assante ("Odyssey") is robust and determined as the Native protagonist and Victoria Racimo is fabulous as his wife (squaw?).
There are quite a few memorable scenes, like when the Natives block a forest road culminating in an intense stand-off with the paper mill personnel, chain saw and all. Another potent sequence is when Foxworth investigates the paper mill and has an intense discussion/argument with the mill boss. The manager powerfully points out that the mill simply provides what the consumers demand and that Foxworth's actual report is going to use up thousands of sheets of paper; hence, he shares responsibility.
BOTTOM LINE: For the first hour and 15 minutes or so "Prophecy" expertly unveils the mystery while capturing the viewers attention with mounting interest. It's the last 25 minutes where the film partially stumbles. The mutated creature is fully revealed and chases the group through the forests. There's a lot of running & screaming and many die. This should be a powerful pay-off but for some reason it's not. It's merely okay, and almost boring. Still, there are some memorable visuals, like the moonlit chase through the fog-laden lake.
"Prophecy" may not be great like "Jaws" or "Alien," but it's quite a bit better than flicks like "Grizzly."
Ecologist movie with monster.......2006-09-26
Behind its shocking design of horror movie with monster, we find an interesting film that connects with that praisely spirit of some B-serial movies in its effort to combine entertainment with a sensitive social message. Directed in 1979 by John Frankenheimer( " Man of Alcatraz "; " The manchurian candidate " ) the film moves between some stereotypes of 70's horror films and the environmental caution warning. The "monster" of the cover's design is a very angry grizzly bear, one of the many victims of genetic mutations due to toxic industrial resides poured out in the waters of the supposedly protected woods of Maine. Frankenheimer takes advantage of the plot to introduce a political intrigue. A very convincing movie that it's worthwhile to take a look.
This edition respects the original widescreen version.
a throw back to the big monster movies of the 50's.......2006-05-20
this movie is really silly and fun in the "so bad it's good" area.the monster(an inside/out bear!!!!) is really bad looking but the story of water pollated by a heartless company is really just a 50's big bug movie redone for the 70's. great fun if you get into the feel of it

Like all the Baby Genius I think it is good, it should be rated for younger children as an 18 month old get's a little bored with it, they prefer the sing alongs much better and this one seems to bore her.

Four Seasons DVD by Fischer.......2007-08-23
Julia Fischer's video recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons is both a visual and an aural feast. The Director's cut has tranquil scenes throughout and the Performance cut allows close observation of the interaction between artist and orchestra. The quality of music is fine. It will be interesting to hear how she performs these works in another twenty years.
Gorgeous to see and hear!.......2007-07-19
It has been said that the audience listens with their eyes as well as their ears and this is definitely proven true with this gorgeous dvd. Ms. Fischer has a deft touch with Vivaldi, and the 2 versions- concert and nature images are both delightful. We have several versions of The Four Seasons, and this is a favorite!
(~~)==++ BRAVO JULIA!! She REFRESHES and VITALISES Vivaldi's "THE FOUR SEASONS"!.......2007-02-15
I can hardly find words to express how BEAUTIFUL and LOVELY JULIA FISCHER's interpretation of Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" is!! Her recording is simply so consistently PURE and PERFECT and one simply won't be able to stop listening to it and watching her beautiful violin play! Technically, Julia Fischer's violin play is - as always! - a class of its own and there are few violinists nowadays who are as great violinists as Julia Fischer and whose violin play is of the same unique perfectness and quality; Julia Fischer's intonation is completely clean and accurate, flawless as well as precise - I lack the words to express this more appropriately! The tone of her violin does not "strike" the notes with an overemphasised and excessive vibrato, as other violinists prefer to use, but instead is right to the point and determining, well "demanding" but also in a certain way (which we can be happy about!!) "restrained", which means, as I just described, that she always prevents too much "colouring" of tones as well as overemphasised vibrato! So I really appreciate that Julia Fischer has enough respekt for this musical piece as well as discipline to interpret and perform it!
Besides Julia Fischer's 1. class technical control of this Antonio Vivaldi piece, FIRST OF ALL I have to mention - with extraordinary delight! - the very REMARKABLE INTERPRETATION of this piece, which had been recorded countless times in the past and which has almost been "worn-out" by these many recordings of this Vivaldi piece; as this recording is a DVD, which means an audio-visual recording, Julia Fischer's audiences and fans can really see how deeply moved and lost Julia Fischer is in her interpretation and violin play and playing together with the orchestra, and she shows us her emotions which these four concerti by Vivaldi cause on her! Several camera positions visualise how much Julia Fischer is expressing her feelings for this musical piece, you can see how she is getting carried away with this muscial piece and is vitalising it as well as playing it with much sensitiveness. This one can recognise from her always discreet but the more emotional expressions on her face when she appears especially emotional in some passages of these four concerti, and then when she as a conducting solist gets at the entries of each part of the orchestra with smooth smiles and glances in other passanges. "Discreet" is certainly (according to my own impressions which I have from Julia Fischer) quite a suitable expression or term or maybe a "description" for certain characteristic of this wonderful young 1. class violinist Julia Fischer (if I may assume or presume to say that!); what I want to say by that is as follows: Julia always finds, if in the interpretation of a musical piece or in her appearance, the right "centre", which means that she "balances" between too much or too little of something, e. g., in that she never "over-interprets" pieces and in that, in contrast, she is never too "shy" or "conservative" or too restrained in her interpretations and violin play.
This recording simply shows that it's all right! Julia Fischer, who conducts the orchestra completely on her own even at this very young age, together with the orchestra form a complete as well as much harmonic whole, which could be seen quite often like this in concert halls throughout the world. I hope a lot that this excellent cooperation between the young violinist Julia Fischer and the chamber orchestra of the "Academy of St. Martin in the Fields" remains for the future and can be seen more often in this combination in concert halls throughout the globe! I am really happy that after all this DVD offers classical audiences a FRESH NEW INTERPRETATION which lacks on the same high level in recordings made by other violinists. At this point Julia Fischer's interpretation is a really UNIQUE and so LIVELY one! After countless boring and tyring, well "dead" recordings made by other violin virtuosos I feel really VITALISED by this excellent and superb recording made by JULIA FISCHER!
Beyond that, the atmosphere as well as the background for this recording of each location in which the orchestra with solist Julia Fischer performed were altogether very well chosen changing for each of the Four Seasons in the "National Botanic Gardens of Wales", and they give it a really pleasant contrast which suits the interpretation of these four concerti. The four different costumes Julia Fischer wears for each of the four seasons were all very well chosen, and they suit this beautiful and attractive young violinist! But: It should have been decided to allow the members of the orchestra also wear (more) colourful costumes and not, instead, make them wear "priosoners' costumes"! So much as of one negative fact about this recording. However, there is one more, but much severe problem which is MUCH MORE ANNOYING and UPSETTING and particularly DISTURBING. I must urgently criticise the following problem of this otherwise beautiful and remarkable recording: There is disturbing noise - namely noise caused by the surrounding nature - which come from the background of the four different locations chosen for this recording within the "National Botanic Gardens of Wales". This noise is for example twittering birdies, buzzing humble-bees, rushing streams and blowing wind!!! It seems much like this trashy, silly or absurd as well as completely idiotic and stupid and unacceptable noise was intended to be recorded in a disturbing and upsetting manner for the background of this otherwise perfect and tremendous recording of Julia Fischer's "The Four Seasons". There is probably not a responsible person for making this recording who could not have heard this during the production of this DVD - as this noise is totally disturbing in several passages of "The Four Seasons"!!! Solist Julia Fischer and the orchestra make so much efforts to produce such a highly remarkable recording, at which they succeed so tremendously and overwhelmingly, while these intentions are partly disturbed by the noise I mentioned which comes from the background!! There is not a solist and no orchestra who could ever be happy or enthusiastic about such musical misdoing and support such nonsense and stupidness! This shows that the responsible managers of the DVD publishing company or its producers must apparently have had their "tentacles" in the pie when producing this DVD, and they must have lost any sense of this music - and in particular of classical music! - as well as any musical mind!! THOSE we, the audiences, owe this nonsense - NO thanks for that!!!
MUCH MORE THAN a "REPAIR" FOR THIS is in any case the 10 minutes' INTERVIEW WITH JULIA FISCHER in which she explains how she became introduced to "The Four Seasons" and what influenced her while learning this great musical piece, and Julia explains that this was her first "complete" piece for violin with orchestra and therefore it has a very special meaning for her. She also tells us about her musical idols, first to mention David Oistrach and secondly Yehudi Menuhin. Much more you will learn from this young violinist, about her future goals as well as about her musical perspective, and she talks about various musical subjects! This interview from her is really worth seeing it and listing to it, especially, if one is VERY ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT HER anyway and if one would like to learn more about Julia Fischer!
So, this recording is of HIGHEST PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO (despite the twittering birdies, buzzing humble-bees and rushing streams in the background) and additionally it is MUCH WORTH SEEING IT (not only because of the VERY BEAUTIFUL JULIA FISCHER!) and JULIA FISCHER earns some extra respect and acknowledgement for she conducts, at this very young age, the ORCHESTRA AS A SOLIST COMPLETELY ON HER OWN! And anyway this recording is a MUST for all VIVALDI fans and of course for all of those who are much enthusiastic about Julia Fischer! So I give FIVE stars and even MORE STARS, if possible! My very best recommendations to buy and especially to LISTEN TO and WATCH this GREATLY ASTONISHING VIVALDI PERFORMANCE!!
Wonderful musically and visually .......2006-07-10
Having first borrowed this video from the public library, I had to own it. The performance is wonderful, and visually both the performers (including the stunning Miss Fischer)and the season-specific scenes from the Wales Botanic Garden are breathtaking. For my young grandchildren this has been a terrific introduction to classical music -- in fact, I bought a copy for them.
Beauty in both video and audio.......2006-03-11
This is a superb production of a great classic. Although I found it to be a faultless production, any conceived faults are well and truly compensated for with the beautiful scenic backdrops provided for each "season" by video taken of the surrounding countryside in that season. Worth every penny, just to sit and be consumed by this mini spectacle.

Customer Reviews:
enjoyable.......2007-07-29
This DVD is often provided as a 'premium' during PBS donation drives. There are 5 National Parks that are highlighted. There is beautiful scenery shown, with a bit of a drawback that there are some of the same scenes repeated in short order. There are lots of scenes of the ensemble playing, perhaps more than of the Parks themselves. The music is very melodic, especially the sole wind instrument player who plays at times very haunting melodies, using flutes and related instruments.
And yes, the smiling Tim Janis on the piano can wear a bit. But all the members of the ensemble seem to really be enjoying their efforts.
In a bit of a surprise, the bonus music section perhaps contains some of the best pictures, especially if you like flower scenes. It perhaps is easy to miss this if you simply put in the DVD and push play.
Beautiful.......2007-01-15
Lovely music with a great blend of scenery and shots of the musicians preforming.Be sure to see the bonus music. It is the best part yet!
beautiful.......2006-11-06
Tims music is intresting, pleasing and quite relaxing. The video portion adds life to complete a very pleasant event.
Misleading Title & Description?.......2006-11-06
When playing the dvd I expect to see our beautiful American sceneries instead of the orchestra playing. Why call it Beautiful America when there is hardly any sceneries? Our country have tons of them, more than any other countries in the world. We care about the music and the scenery but not the repeated images of the orchestra members.

Grandchildren Adore It.......2005-12-18
My two and three year old grandsons, love this DVD. They enjoyed learning all the names of the creatures. It took some time for them to be able to distinguish between the manattees and the seals, etc. but caught on after awhile. It is a great way to share time bonding while helping them develop numerous skills. The dvd is a combination of real photo film and animation. One grandson kept asking for the "dolphin movie" , his favoritite creatures. It was great to have a dvd that we could interact together with.

Teaching Baby about Creation.......2005-10-14
Gently introducing baby to the Genesis version of the story of how God created our world, this video fuses uplifting music and beautiful images to great effect.
Accompanying a backdrop of soothing instrumental music, a child's voice narrates the video's introduction. I've been around enough babies to know that they love "big kids", so the choice of a child narrator is sure to catch baby's attention. The video goes on to tell the biblical story of the beginning of our world. As in the Bible, the story is broken into seven "days". Each segment features a cute hand puppet and a bright illustration, focusing on what God created each day.
On the first day, God created Light. The DVD blends stunning images of light, introducing the world "light" in the corner of the screen for those wanting to introduce their children to whole language concepts early in life. The various forms of light presented fluctuate from fireworks to a flashing light bulb to a softly glowing candle, while a selection of instrumental music plays softly in the background.
Music plays a large part in these early childhood videos, and the selections presented in The Story of Creation should please both baby and parent. Songs range from time-tested classics to familiar bible songs to an adorable children's choir rendition of "Peace Like a River" during the Day 2 water segment.
The formula of images and music for each day continues, with some days featuring multiple items created. There is a certain element of repetition, but as I noted with my own children, this is not necessarily a negative. Babies and toddlers seem to enjoy seeing repeated images over and over again.
My own personal favorite "day" in the video is Day 5, featuring a broad array of images of birds and fish, underscoring God's true mastery and brilliance in the creation of our world. I do have to say that I found the images for Day 6, the day when God created animals and people, to be less interesting. I felt that there could have been a greater diversity of people presented, including broader age ranges and ethnic backgrounds.
Overall, I would strongly recommend The Story of Creation by Baby Miracle as a beautiful and stimulating tool to share with your baby. Bonus features on the disk include a "repeat video" feature, for Moms needing a longer shower or break than the video's 35 minute length, and a "flash card" feature blending still images of many of the items in the video with the correct spelling of each word. This might be of interest to Baby's older siblings who are experimenting with learning to read. The children and babies featured throughout this DVD are adorable evidence of the gifts God has given us though our children.
Beautiful Video with Great Christian Music .......2005-03-14
I was really impressed with the Story of Creation video by Baby Miracle -- I think its their best video. My daughter absolutely loved it! Highlights include: Choir singing "Peace Like a River" and georgeous flower and fish segment. The video was upbeat and had many beautiful and colorful images. My daughter watches this video over and over. The Flashcard Bonus feature is good too, but she prefers the actual video.
Love it or not.......2005-03-03
In reading lots of reviews for various baby videos, I am finding that people are committed to one or another brand based on what their child likes. We like God Made Me for the story of creation. Our baby did not like this video nor did I or my spouse. Too many stock footage shots and words. Very convoluted! It's for a baby so I'm not sure why the emphasis on spelling and details. KISS - Keep it Simple Stupid! The thing at the beginning with the space, planets and the like - way too out there for even me, let alone my baby. NEXT!
Try something else!.......2005-03-03
I got this video because I read so much about it here on amazon.com. And then when I saw it I was really bummed out. My kids watched a few images and then lost interst right away!
We have the Babyfaith series (God Made Me) and my kids love that! It's awesome!
This Baby Miracle seemed like a wanna-be Baby Einstein without the quality or the creativity. Bummer! Perhaps the images would work better for older children. Very low quality. The presentation of the bible story is not very good at all either, despite their claims. My advice - try something else!
Really Wonderful Baby Video.......2004-08-25
I bought this video second after the Baby Miracle Noah's Ark and my baby loves it even more than Noah's Ark. I was. It has gorgeous segments on light, nature, and animals with really fun music. What I really like about this video is that my baby is just overjoyed to hear classical music, children's songs, as well as a child's voice narrating the story. My baby also just loves seeing all the different kids playing in it. It's a nice addition to my collection of baby videos.

I am biased-I was a snowshoer in the movie..........2004-12-06
In my humble opinion this movie plays to the greatest strength of all IMAX films-it is a stunningly visual display of the continual seasonal changes that my home state of MN is known for. Frigid winters, humid summers and wonderful transitional months in between.
I only wish they had included more "IMAX" scenes when you feel like you are actually flying over the landscape and your stomach is down somewhere around your feet.
It is fun to watch this and look back at my childhood with fond memories.
Poor Imax documentary.......2003-08-24
Imax Documentaries as compared to say BBC or Discovery Channel documentaries are low on substance and big on camera footage. In the case of "Seasons", there are no breathtaking footages or even interesting shots of anything. Not to say that this documentary doesn't cover anything, but for $..., I expected more than what a sixth grader already knows.
