Elf is genuinely good. Not just Saturday Night Live-movie good, when the movie has some funny bits but is basically an insult to humanity; Elf is a smartly written, skillfully directed, and deftly acted story of a human being adopted by Christmas elves who returns to the human world to find his father. And because the writing, directing, and acting are all genuinely good, Elf is also genuinely funny. Will Ferrell, as Buddy the adopted elf, is hysterically sincere. James Caan, as his rediscovered father, executes his surly dumbfoundedness with perfect aplomb. Zooey Deschanel, as a department store worker with whom Buddy falls in love, is adorably sardonic. Director Jon Favreau (Swingers) shepherds the movie through all the obligatory Christmas cliches and focuses on material that's sometimes subtle and consistently surprising. Frankly, Elf feels miraculous. Also featuring Mary Steenburgen, Bob Newhart, Peter Dinklage, and Ed Asner as Santa Claus. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars One of the funniest family movies I've ever seen!.......2007-06-10

This movie is loved by my whole family, all ages, from the 3-year-old up to the 64-year-old! A hilarious adventure for all! The character Elf is so lovable and the movie just touches your heart (and your funny bone!).

4 out of 5 stars Thanks to Ferrell, it's no lump of coal.......2007-05-26

The yuletide season always brings a handful of holiday-themed releases, but most of them are pure humbug. It's only every five years or so that a true holiday classic comes along. Elf, from actor/director Jon Favreau ("Swingers"), tries to buck that trend by dressing Will Ferrell in tights and putting his comic skills to the test.

Ferrell plays Buddy, a human who grew up among Santa's elves. When he was a baby, he snuck into Santa's bag on Christmas Eve and wasn't discovered until Santa was back at the North Pole. Papa Elf (Bob Newhart) "adopted" Buddy and raised him. But now, Buddy is sticking out like a sore thumb within the elf community because of his ungainly size, unable to perform classic elf functions like toy building.

Buddy decides the answer to his problems is to seek out his human father Walter (James Caan) in New York City. Walter is the stereotypical big-business prick, and initially wants nothing to do with his elf-son freak. That leaves Buddy to inadvertently score a job at a department store, which leads to a romance with fellow store employee Jovie (Zooey Deschanel) and much hilarity when Buddy prepares for a visit from "Santa," thinking the real deal is on the way. When he sees that the store-hired Santa is actually an imposter, hilarious havoc ensues.

Walter slowly starts to warm to Buddy, who befriends his wife (Mary Steenburgen) and neglected son (Daniel Tay). But as Buddy becomes an increasingly disruptive presence at Walter's workplace, the fragile new family bond is threatened. Things comes to a head on Christmas Eve, naturally, as Santa begins his toy-delivering run and Walter desperately tries to make an 11th hour book sale.

Director Favreau and his crew deserve props for their work in creating the elf community. By using forced perspective and some cool animation techniques, they do a great job of building a unique world that captures the feel of the classic "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Frosty The Snowman" animated holiday specials.

The screenplay, by newcomer David Berenbaum, is best when it places Ferrell in inventive fish-out-of-water scenarios. The story does stoop to formulaic scenarios from time-to-time, but it's a little more forgivable in this instance, since we're talking about a Christmas movie. The cast is also a mixed bag. Former Academy Award nominees Caan and Steenburgen are largely wasted in thankless roles, but Newhart and Deschanel make the most of theirs.

Fortunately, when the film threatens to get stuck in syrupy cliche, the wacky Ferrell comes to the rescue. He pulls out all the stops in an off-the-wall comedic performance that will have you in stitches. From wild slapstick to nuanced facial expressions, this is pure comedic genius at work.

It remains to be seen whether "Elf" becomes a new holiday classic, but thanks to Ferrell, it's definitely no lump of coal. It's a great way to have some holiday fun and raise your Christmas spirits.

4 out of 5 stars Way Too Fun to Take Seriously.......2007-05-17

Elf is one of my all-time favorite Christmas movies.

Will Ferrell fans fall into two camps: the ones that appreciate his raunchy side, and those who find his goofy innocence charming.

I'm in the second camp.

My children and I quote Elf often. "Does somebody need a hug?" is a favorite.

But I know perfectly wonderful people who hated the movie.

If you go for art or brilliant acting/writing, or a deep heartfelt message to take away with you -- you probably shouldn't go there with Elf. The logical will be annoyed with the elf adoption and flying sleigh logistics.

But if you find it at all amusing when grown men wear tights and get sideswiped by taxis, Elf may be singing your song. Does excessive childlike behavior no matter how old the child, coax a smile? Then Elf may be a movie you'll add to your favorites list.

Elf may fall into that category with Napoleon Dynamite...either you love it or you hate it. And I'm a Napoleon fan. I even loved Nacho Libre, Three Amigos and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Give me an excellent sight gag, some physical humor and a few great one-liners and I'm in.

Amazon.com essential video

Accept no substitutes. The 1966 television adaptation of Dr. Seuss' timeless book How the Grinch Stole Christmas!--about an anti-Santa who tries to heist the holiday only to learn a powerful lesson--is a classic in its own right, and looking better than ever in its 50th Birthday Deluxe Edition. (For those doing the math, the 50 years is counting from the book's 1957 publishing date rather than the show's broadcast date.) The most significant improvement is in the digital transfer, cleaning up fuzz and specks and restoring the proper colors to the program. While the awful earlier DVDs showed the Grinch in a mustard-yellow color, this edition restores his proper green gleam. Special features are mostly ported over from the previous DVD--the Horton Hears a Who program, a featurette on the songs, Phil Hartman's special edition version, pencil tests, etc. minus the commentary track--but there is a new 15-minute featurette, "Dr. Seuss and the Grinch: From Whoville to Hollywood." While it starts out as a fluff piece aimed at the younger set (interviews with kids, some rapping), it does provide some interesting information, including interviews with the widows of Theodore Geisel and Chuck Jones and clips of Geisel and Jones' Private Snafu. (No mention of Jim Carrey, however.) --David Horiuchi

Description

Every who down in Who-ville likes Christmas a lot, but the Grinch who lived just north of Who-ville did NOT! So the cuddly as a cactus Grinch (with termites in his smile and garlic in his soul) tries to wipe out Christmas for the cheerful Who-villains, only to discover: maybe Christmas, he thought doesn't come from as store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more! Magnificently narrated by Boris Karloff and animated by cartoon legend Chuck Jones, it's an award-winning Who-roast-beast-feast of a holiday classic!

Love it! Who doesn't love Dr. Seuss and the Who's in Whoville. Great family movie with no advertisements. A must have for any home with or without kids. I have watched it by myself on occasion. I am a BIG Dr. Seuss fan. Check out the great selection of Dr. Seuss books on Amazon our family owns many titles. They great for reading to k-6th graders at school or home.

5 out of 5 stars HIS MEANNESS IN GLORIOUS GREENESS.......2007-05-06

Wow! I just watched this newest edition of the Grinch, and what a difference! The COLORS are FABULOUS! He never looked better! The remastering is, well, masterful; and I never saw this wonderful Christmas feature so beautifully represented.
All the hundreds of times I watched this before have been in B&W by comparison!
"You're a Mean One-Mr Grinch! You have Termites in your Soul!"
Sung by the inimitable Thurl Ravenscroft (what a great name!) who also voiced one of the Ghosts on the Haunted Mansion ride, ( a Singing Bust in the Graveyard) lends a thrilling richness to the feature, as great as the voice of Boris Karloff as the Grinch himself.
An extra feature on this disc is the Making of...including interviews with Mrs Theodore Geisel, AKA Mrs Seuss, and Chuck Jones, who worked closely with his old friend Dr Seuss, at first reluctant to animate his story, but who thawed after seeing the drawings and hearing the great songs, esp the one on Christmas Morning.
Horton hears a Who is included, and this is just wonderful...so sweet.
One day Dr Seuss was sitting at his desk littered with sketches when a breeze wafted in and blew a drawing of an elephant onto a drawing of a tree, which set Seuss to thinking: "What is that elephant doing up in that tree?" which led to Horton Hatches the Egg.
Seuss's wonderful surrealist POV is the child's version of Dali, and another favorite Seuss work of mine is the sets he created for "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr T."
This set also includes Phil Hartman's Grinch special and pencil tests.
But the real star here is the incredible colors and how magnificent the Grinch looks in his splendid coat of bright Green. You've never seen this great feature so beautifully done until you get this version! The packaging is wonderful with sparkles all over the jacket.

5 out of 5 stars Dr. Seuss's Original..........2007-04-22

The 1966 cartoon version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" has rightly become a Christmas season classic. Its simple but evocative storyline is brought to life by the pairing of animator Chuck Jones with original artist Theodor Geisel. Boris Karloff's absolutely superb narration is the thing of genius that makes the whole movie work.

The story is familar to anyone who has been young in the last forty years: The Grinch, a Christmas-hater, lives near Whoville, populated by Whos, a cheery bunch who celebrate Christmas with abandon. The Grinch has the stoke of awful inspiration one Christams Eve to sneak into Whoville and steal all the holiday paraphanalia, and stop Christmas from coming. Disguised as Santa Claus, the Grinch makes away with all the presents, decorations, and food, only to discover that he has missed the point about Christmas altogether. His moment of relevation may be the highlight of the whole movie.

This movie is highly recommended as a Christmas Classic suitable for all ages.

5 out of 5 stars Still the Best!.......2007-04-17

As a child of 4 or 5 years old, watching this, I have to say that Boris Karloff's rendering of the Grinch gave me literal nightmares. But then I always loved a movie that could enter my slumber, so even the nightmares of my childhood were a welcome adrenaline rush.

I realize this is a movie you're probably only supposed to watch at Christmas time, but honestly I can watch it in the middle of July and enjoy it just as much as if I I were watching it on Christmas Morning!

When I was a kid, it was about the lesson learned by the Grinch. He learned to let people in, to love and to be loved. He learned the true meaning of being a cheerful giver.

As a grown-up, it's about being able to harken back to a simpler time. About re-living those moments I so enjoyed in my youth. The Grinch is more than a holiday classic. It's a journey into one of the most enjoyable aspects of a person's past.

It's beautifully drawn... as I already said, the voices are positively mesmerizing. The message/moral/theme is very positive and clear. Tell me what's NOT to like about this movie?

5 out of 5 stars Great flick.......2007-03-17

My 4 year old son loves the Grinch. We bought this because the tape was worn out. It is nice and clear and is the original we all remember. And even though we didnt think we were getting "Horton Hears a Who" it was included on the disc.

Celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with Caillou and his family. Caillou receives a special advent calendar from his parents to count down the days until Christmas, and each night Caillou and his parents open a flap to discover a new picture of a holiday celebration somewhere in the world. As the family talks about different Christmas traditions, Caillou learns that a young boy in Germany started the tradition of the Christmas tree, that English school children made the first Christmas cards, and that Christmas stockings (and shoes) figure prominently in holiday celebrations in France and Hungary. He also learns about Hanukkah and the lighting of the Menorah from his friend Leo. As Caillou and his family enjoy their own holiday traditions, they discover the universal importance of giving and sharing. Music, including eight original songs, abounds in this 73-minute program. Unlike more typical Caillou episodes, there are no animated segments focusing on the interactions between Teddy, Rexi, and Gilbert in this presentation nor does Caillou find much to whine about in this festive season. DVD extras include an interview with Caillou, a holiday sing-along, and six challenges. (Ages 2 to 6) --Tami Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars i know it by heart..........2007-09-05

This is a new Christmas classic in our home! My 2 year old daughter asks for this movie nearly every day, and I can honestly say I do not get tired of it! This movie takes you through the weeks preceding Christmas as we all remembered it, through the wide-eyed wonder of childhood! All of Caillou's friends and family shares a special time with him. Its a great balance of embracing other cultural celebrations of the holiday without being apologetic for the fact that Caillou's family celebrates a traditional old-fashioned Christmas. I would recommend this to any family who has little Caillou lovers under foot. Great movie! And we enjoy the fact that there are no puppet segments or interruptions, just one big "episode" so I don't have to fast forward for "MORE CAILLOU!" :)

5 out of 5 stars A Real Movie, not episodes.......2007-07-09

This was fun! It wasn't sappy like many holiday movies. This time there was no mention of Kwanzaa, though.

There were games and it an interview with Caillou.

There are optiones or English, Français and Español.

I could watch it repeatedly; my two-year does.

Instantly qualifying as a perennial cult favorite, Bad Santa is as nasty as it wants to be, and there's something to be said for comedy without compromise. The Coen brothers conceived the basic idea and served as executive producers, but it's director Terry Zwigoff (Crumb, Ghost World) who brings his unique affinity for losers and outcasts to the twisted tale of Willie T. Stokes (Billy Bob Thornton), a hard-drinking, chain-smoking, foul-mouthed sexaholic safe-cracker who targets a different department store every holiday season, playing Santa while he cases the joint with his dwarf elf-partner Marcus (Tony Cox). With comedic support from Bernie Mac, Lauren Graham, Cloris Leachman, and John Ritter in his final film, Thornton milks the lowbrow laughs with a slovenly lack of sentiment, warming Bad Santa's pickled heart just enough to please a chubby misfit (Brett Kelly, hilariously deadpan) who may or may not be mentally challenged. As dry as an arid martini and blacker than morning-after coffee, Bad Santa is an instant cure for yuletide schmaltz, and if you think this appropriately R-rated comedy is suitable for kids, your parenting skills are no better than Willie's. --Jeff Shannon

Good neighbors can be hard to come by and when the flighty Buddy Hall (Danny Devito) moves in across the street from the conservative Dr. Steve Finch (Matthew Broderick), it quickly becomes apparent that the two men are complete opposites. While Finch methodically plans out every minute of the coming Christmas season for his family, Buddy craves freshness and excitement and is seized by an impulsive desire to decorate his house so brightly that it can be seen from space. While the men's wives Kelly (Kristin Davis) and Tia (Kristin Chenoweth) and their children revel in one another's differences and form solid friendships, a rivalry of personalities and Christmas spirit ensues between the two men that will wind up testing the patience and love of every member of both families. This is fun, comical holiday entertainment for the entire family ages 9 and older. --Tami Horiuchi

    Description

Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito are hilarious as two neighbors trying to put the "win" in "winter" in one of the year's funniest comedies! Determined to unseat Steve Finch's (Broderick) reign as the town's holiday season king, Buddy Hall (DeVito) plasters his house with so many decorative lights that it'll be visible from space! When their wives (Kristin Davis and Kristin Chenoweth) bond, and their kids follow suit, the two men only escalate their rivalry and their decorating. It's anybody's guess whether the holidays will wind up jolly or jostled in this wild and woolly laugh-fest that the whole family will love!

Under a thick carpet of green-dyed yak fur and wonderfully expressive Rick Baker makeup, Jim Carrey is up to all of his old tricks (and some nifty new ones) in this live-action movie of Dr. Seuss's holiday classic. He commands the title role with equal parts madness, mayhem, pathos, and improvisational genius, channeling Grinchness through his own screen persona so smoothly that fans of both Carrey and Dr. Seuss will be thoroughly satisfied. Adding to the fun is a perfectly pitched back-story sequence (accompanied by Anthony Hopkins's narration) that explains how the Grinch came to hate Christmas, with a heart "two sizes too small." Ron Howard proves a fine choice for the director's chair with a keen balance of comedy, sentiment, and light-hearted Seussian whimsy. Production designer Michael Corenblith gloriously realizes the wackiness of Whoville architecture, and his rendition of the Grinch's Mt. Crumpit lair is a marvel of cartoonish, subterranean grime. Then there's Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), the thoughtful imp who rallies her village to recapture the pure spirit of Christmas and melts the gift-stealing Grinch's cold, cold heart. You've even got a dog (the Grinch's good-natured mongrel, Max) who's been perfectly cast, so what's not to like about this dazzling yuletide movie? The production gets a bit overwhelmed by its own ambition, and the citizens of Whoville (including Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon, and Bill Irwin) pale in comparison to Carrey's inspired lunacy, but who cares? If a movie can unleash Jim Carrey at his finest, revamp the Grinch story, and still pay tribute to the legacy of Dr. Seuss, you can bet it qualifies as rousing entertainment. 5 out of 5 stars A Lot Of Fun; Looks Great On DVD.......2007-09-17

I found this a very entertaining small kids movie that actually is geared more for adults with a lot of jokes and humor only they would understand. A few things are inappropriate for the kiddies, but just a few. Othewise, "The Grinch" (Jim Carrey) cracks so many jokes you can't keep up with them all, ranging from sexual to cultural to insider-Hollywood to racial.

The film is very colorful and looks great on DVD. The little girl in here, "Cindy Lou Who" (Taylor Momsen) is really cute and the costumes and hairdos of the little people in here are fun to view. Anthony Hopkins' voice is pleasing, too, so having his narrate this elevates the movie further. His rhymes are fun to hear.

I've seen it four times and it got better with each viewing..

    5 out of 5 stars Jim Carrey's Grinch.......2007-06-27

Who doesn't love this version? I'm not a big Jim Carrey fan, but this is a Christmas must-see for our family every year.

    2 out of 5 stars So Stupid, It's Funny.......2007-02-22

I love this movie! It is so incredibly stupid and funny. It is absolutely ridiculous and slightly crass. The grinch and the whos look like a bunch of clowns. The film was predictable and completely ripped off from the animated TV special. This isn't as stupid as Barney, because at least the makers of this film actually tried to be funny, rather than just childish and retarded. This film has gotten a lot of mixed reviews on amazon.com, so be sure to rent it before you buy it.

    5 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!.......2007-01-08

It never gets old! The deleted scenes are great. This is a fun movie for the whole family. We watch it every year, usually twice! Even if you aren't a Jim Carrey fan, you will be in this one.

Mickey Mouse and his friends enter the realm of eye-catching computer-generated animation in this five-episode, 68-minute Christmas celebration. The holidays are a time for celebration, but when Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and host of other Disney characters become obsessed with holiday preparations, the frenzy of activity leaves everyone feeling stressed, selfish, and full of regret. A skating contest leads best friends Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck down a path of jealousy and hurt feelings in "Belles on Ice," and "Christmas Impossible" finds Huey, Dewie, and Louie selfishly scheming to get on Santa's "good list" at any expense. In "Christmas Maximus," Goofy's son Max is mortified by his father's silly antics and, in "Donald's Gift," Donald's craving for peace and quiet threatens to ruin the whole family's holiday fun. "Mickey's Dog-Gone Christmas" finds Mickey so absorbed in planning the perfect Christmas party that he lashes out at Pluto and almost loses a very special friend forever. While the animation style is new, what hasn't changed is Disney's commitment to stories with wholesome values: Mickey and the gang remind viewers that the holiday season is not about selfishness, flashy parties, and expensive gifts, but about selflessness and the celebration of family and friends. 4 out of 5 stars Stunning Animation and Great Slapstick.......2006-11-08

After getting this DVD from the library last year, I knew that my son was a big fan of Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas. In fact, so was my husband. He's an artist, and very critical of shoddy animation. However, with this DVD, he often comments on the well-done, vibrant images of computer animation. (If you're a parent of a child, you probably already know how shoddy some of the CGI can be in kid videos! Happily, this is not rendered poory like some movies.) In fact, I was amazed at how Mickey's sweater looked so real, as well as the snow-covered trees, holiday lights and Christmas trees, Minnie and Daisy's gossamer skating outfits, and so on.

An open "Storybook" presents each tale, and we are whisked away into five magical stories showing true-to-life situations involving relationships. (And you KNOW how the whole family/relationship thing can get during holidays... *wince*).

Clever writing abounds, as well as numerous sight-gags. My son and I think it's hilarious when Huey, Dewey and Louie burp to a Christmas song--and when Daisy implores Donald to "say something!", he burps in response.

For those who think this DVD is mean spirited and violent, I have to say it seems like I was watching an entirely different movie than they apparently were... I mean, the classic Huey, Dewey and Louie animated shorts AND comics always presented their mischief. In fact, in the original theatrical shorts, the nephews were sent to live with Donald because their father was in the hospital! Why? Because the boys sent him there by putting firecrackers under his chair! (So I hardly think that ol' Walt is rolling in his grave. Lighten up, people--this is the guy that gave us Fantasia! You know, the movie that features Night on Bald Mountain, the song about the nocturnal demon Chernabog who summons restless souls from their graves until driven away by the sound of a church bell.)

If you want to see nasty kid programs, try renting a Thomas the Tank Engine DVD!

Granted, the Minnie/Daisy catfight and pettiness was surprising (thus, the reason I'm giving it four stars), but reality isn't sugar-coated Disney dreams. Friends often have jealousy, children are often onery, Dads can be grumpy at Christmas (and while shopping) and so on.

I'm very cautious about what I let my son watch, and I don't object to this fine holiday DVD. (Because we live in a house WITH manners--and we stress kindness--my son is quick to point out sad moments...and ones where people are behaving not-so-nicely.)

My family and I are huge fans of slapstick comedy (Jerry Lewis, Dick Van Dyke, etc.), so Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas is a real treat in the humor department. The colors and details of the animation is absolutely stunning. For example, Donald goes behind the curtain at "Mousies" (Macy's) to investigate their annual animated production. It's done with a black light, so Donald and the lighted animatronics have a very cool glow that can be only found with black light effects.

I especially like this episode because of the clever sound effects: surrounding Donald in the mall are people and machinery that mimic the song "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"--change in the till, a blender, puppies barking, etc.

In the store, I gave my son a choice between Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas and Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas, and not surprisingly, he chose this one. (We just bought it last night and he's already watched it four times--the last time, while he sat on my lap and we cuddled.)

This DVD also has some extras:

*A behind the scenes look at how animators were inspired by skating sensation Michelle Kwan
*Deleted Scenes - How the structure for the movie unfolded, and why they picked certain stories for the DVD
    *Several Games and Activities
    *DVD-ROM Holiday Printables

If you're concerned that this DVD might be too controversial for kids, rent it first. If you like it, show it to your kids. You'll soon know whether you want to purchase it or not. For me and my family, we feel this is an EXCELLENT purchasing decision.

This all-time classic now has Horton Hears a Who! on the same video for a great double bill.

    How the Grinch Stole Christmas
To heck with the kids--this is one of the best holiday presents you can give yourself. Adapted from the children's book by Dr. Seuss, this charming story is one to watch every holiday season. It is just edgy enough to help you forget the more cloying aspects of Christmas, yet it is also sweet enough to remind you of the reason for all that holiday cheer. Animation genius Chuck Jones directed this 1966 television production featuring the voice of Boris Karloff as the mean greenie. Bitter and selfish, the Grinch decides to steal Christmas away from the Whos, the sweet little folk who live at the bottom of his mountain home. When little Cindy Loo Who returns his hateful act with kindness, she melts the old miser's heart. There are many reasons to watch this: inventive wordplay, Karloff's impressive narration, and a very memorable soundtrack. --Rochelle O'Gorman

    Horton Hears a Who!
Chuck Jones was chief animator on this lively adaptation of the famous book by Dr. Seuss. The story of a friendly elephant named Horton who discovers--deep inside a daisy--a tiny city called Whoville with tiny, intelligent residents--this film (fleshed out a bit from the source) is strong on character and has striking, appealing visuals. The little folks of Whoville, with their natural air of aristocracy, are a kick, and when they come to see Horton as a hero for his democratic view of all life big and small, the effect is quite touching. This should be a real treat for kids already familiar with the book, and just might inspire those who haven't read it to pick it up. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!.......2007-05-13

Donald Duck's nephews learn why holidays come once a year, Goofy and son discover the spirit of Santa, and Mickey and Minnie reenact a classic tale of giving in this all-new holiday offering. Kelsey Grammer (TV's Frasier) narrates as Donald hosts Christmas at his house, complete with an egg and pancake breakfast, a sled for each duckling in the closet, and Daisy under the mistletoe. But the celebration gets old fast when the boys' wish for Christmas every day comes true. Next up, Goofy's son wonders whether there is a Santa after the villainous Pete tells him there's not and he catches Dad impersonating the portly gift-giver. Goofy demonstrates the spirit of giving by taking a meal and presents to less-fortunate neighbors, and many Goofy-style mishaps later, father and son have a surprise visitor. In the third story, the mouse lovebirds give an updated spin to O. Henry's "The Gift of the Magi," with Minnie having the heirloom watch with no chain and Mickey a harmonica with no case. This trio of Christmas stories adds up to an hour of heartfelt fun, capped off by the gang singing "Jingle Bells." Perfect holiday cheer for those 4 and up. --Kimberly Heinrichs

    5 out of 5 stars Classic stories.......2007-08-30

This dvd is rife with nostalgic Christmas tales as played out by Mickey and friends. Both my daughters and I love this dvd and is one of our holiday favorites. The second dvd Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas is made with computer animation, but just as wonderful. This is a must in any (at heart) children's dvd library.

5 out of 5 stars Great Holiday Movie.......2007-07-24

I love this movie, it is great for kids and families. I'm a college student and it is one of my favorite Christmas movies. The stories revolve around well known Disney characters and show how important it is to be with family and friends at Christmas time. This movie is a great Disney masterpiece and should be added to your families Christmas movie list.

    5 out of 5 stars Let's Watch Mickey - for the 18th time. .......2007-02-27

My 3 1/2 year old can't get enough of these classic Mickey stories. We watched it almost nightly during the holidays and he still pulls it out of the DVD case at least once a week and laughs at his favorite parts. Or sings the songs along with Mickey and Donald. Or recites the script as the movie plays along.

5 out of 5 stars Great Christmas stories.......2007-01-12

This is a great Christmas video, especially for younger children. My 2 year old loves to watch it over and over and over. I also enjoy the stories, which is why I gave it 5 stars. It is not annoying as many other cartoons can be. A must for Disney lovers.

That is this is really a tacky Christmas Special but then again I love HE-Man and She-Ra and I have to be biased and say it is great for that reason alone. Fans should be thrilled they can currently purchase this DVD at all. For Fans 5 Stars for those who never have seen this Special it is not very good story wise, watch some episodes from the real series collections instead. Still a Classic!

4 out of 5 stars Christmas on Eternia.......2007-01-23

If you love any type of Christmas related story like I do, then you will love He-Man and She-Ra: A Christmas Special. The story is easy to follow, the action is good, and there is enough explanation if this is your first look at He-Man or She-Ra. Truly, this is one to add to your Christmas wish list or video list.

I bought this DVD for my grown children because they were big fans of He-Man. We watched it the day after Christmas and it was amazing to listen to them discuss the show and its charaters. IF you liked the show you will love this DVD.
