EXCELLENT - GO AHEAD, MS. MOORE!!.......2003-06-01
A Sad Attempt.......2002-06-11
First of all, I was shocked that she did not cover any of her Top hits from the 80s. She had two #1 songs and a slew of Top 10 singles in the 80s, none of which are represented here. Instead, she chooses to cover boring broadway and Motown songs. Her reading of Mary Well's "My Guy" is an utter embarrassment. And how many times must we suffer through Melba's reading of "Life Every Voice and Sing", which seems to get progressively worse with the numerous versions she had recorded.
The years have not been good to Melba's voice. She sounds tired, worn, off-key ... a thin representation of what she once was.
Being a big Melba fan for so many years, I have been very disappointed with the products she has produced over the past 5 years or so. I didn't think she could top her absolutely hideous holiday CD she struck out with last year. But, this DVD takes the cake! It's so sad to see an artist of her caliber career take such a downward spiral.
Unless you are a serious collector of Melba paraphernalia, then I would strongly advise that you pass on this one. I would recommend buying the CD "This Is It: The Best of Melba Moore", which is a fantastic compilation CD and represents Moore a lot better than this lousy DVD.
