5 out of 5 stars Need this one for your collection!.......2007-05-16

When reading the reviews, you can tell that the majority of them are Marty Robbins's fans. What about those of you out there who have never heard of him? He was the first country music artist to receive an acadamy award for his Country-Pop hit for "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife". He was a songwriter, actor, book-writer and music artist. Marty died in December, 1982. He was ahead of his time in writing and recording songs. I would strongly recommend that you hear examples of some of his songs that are available with various CD's for sale on Amazon. You will find out - he was truly a great artist & very versitile in the different forms of music. His last hit was a song called "Some memories just won't die". This is fitting. When you hear him sing (even for the first time) - you will be amazed. You will discover that his music plus the memories of fans who watched him perform while he was alive "just won't die" as well. You might be surprised - for you might find out it will be the same for you after watching this program. For those who are collector's of Marty Robbins - This is a must!

5 out of 5 stars What a treasure!.......2007-05-12

We are so fortunate to have these old films of Marty singing his songs and I am so glad that I ordered it. Marty was one of a kind and there will never been another one like him. No one has a voice like his! He always sang his songs with such ease, and had a big voice for such a small man.

5 out of 5 stars Definitive anthology from a prodigiously talented man.......2007-04-25

One of the real tragedies in music was Marty Robbins' early death in 1982. He - and we - never got to savor what might have been a career autumn, where he might have had a chance to deepen further an artistry, that, taken in hindsight, was mind-boggling in its wide range of styles. A country boy at heart, he always kept the base of his music there, but he showed how thoroughly adept he could be at Hawaiian, jazz, reggae, rock n' roll of course, gospel, and just plain old pop. He could do honky-tonk authentically. And he was the true master of the gunfighter and trail songs. The word here is versatile - to the gills!

Robbins had an astonishing vocal range, which could encompass deep, brooding lows to the sweetest tenor falsetto imaginable; take a listen here to the tropically-infused "Ka-lu-a," which is sung with real tenderness, and the upward switches into falsetto is masterfully done, e with a sound that can be metaphorically described as a golden ribbon of honey.

What's so rewarding about this collection, is that it shows his evolution through probably nearly thirty years of performing. It is fortuitous that so many video-documented performances survive. We see Marty from the clean-cut 1950s boy to the mustachoied hipster look of the 1970s. The voice remained intact throughout (his intonation and diction are both models of impeccable musicality), and his identification with the lyrics more deeply personal as time marched on. His rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" is poignant, moving, and you get a great sense of melancholy, almost as if he knew his time was getting shorter. Elsewhere, we get his classic rendition of "Singing the Blues," which , when you compare it to Guy Mitchell's monster-seller, shows Marty to have the much better vocal production and is livelier in expression. We also get all his signature tunes, such as "A White Sport Coat," "El Paso," "Don't Worry," "Ruby Ann," "Devil Woman," "My Woman, My Wife," among so many others, encompassing all his styles. We also get some bonus clips, from what appear to be some rare, early kinescopes.

What makes this release different from his commercial audio versions of these songs is the joy of seeing Marty perform these songs. A born performer, you see the music just oozing out from his pores. Though he displays an involvement and energy consistently, giving his all, he is so at ease and relaxed being a showman, you get the feeling that it was his natural metier.

We also get some thoughtful commentaries in between songs by Merle Haggard, Barbara Mandrell, and Robbins' son, among others, and the love all of them show is palpable.

Watching this produces a bittersweet feeling. Marty should have had so many more years, yet, he left no short measure of his prodigious talents. Here's to one of the true kings of music; long may his art endure.

5 out of 5 stars great music and memories.......2007-01-17

I saw this show on PBS and loved it. Marty Robbins is an artist for all seasons.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic gift for Mom.......2007-01-15

My Mom LOVES this DVD. She has always been a huge Marty Robbins fan. When we put this in the player she oohed and ahhed at the start of every song and love all of the commentary. She even stopped it occassionally to add her own commentary, too. A must have for true Marty Robbins fans!

Shania Twain's Up! Close and Personal concert is both a follow-up to her bestselling 2002 album and an intimate show featuring Alison Krauss and Union Station. It's hard to imagine two superstars in the same general style being as different as Twain and Krauss, and it's surreal to see the latter singing backup on "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under," but the combination works. Up! featured both pop and country versions of its 19 songs, and while the intent here is to favor the country approach, the bluegrass sound of AKUS is more listenable than the album's twang and pedal steel, and "From This Moment On" could almost be mistaken for a Krauss song. It's still Twain's show all the way, though, as she sings lead for every song, including "I'm Gonna Getcha Good," "You're Still the One," and a cover of "You Shook Me All Night Long," which her husband Mutt Lange produced for AC/DC many moons ago. Dressed in relatively conservative black leather (!) and forgoing the aerobics, step dancers, and other pyrotechnics of older shows, Twain is personable and chatty with the audience that surrounds the stage (though no one is invited up), so much so that she can only get through 12 songs in the hourlong show. A 25-minute behind-the-scenes featurette helps fill out the disc. --David Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Shania who???? .......2007-05-09

LOL I don't mind Shania, but to be honest I just got this because Alison Krauss and Union Station are her backing band for this live acoustic concert - adn they're brilliant! What generous, self-effacing people AK+US are to do this. Shania comes off as sounding good but a complete ditz in this.

4 out of 5 stars Shania is Captivating!.......2007-03-13

Shania is delightful and captivating in this relaxing show where she sings many songs from UP! and other favorites. She looks great and seems to enjoy being herself with the audience and the backup band. Union Station is excellent playing and singing with her. And Alison Krauss and Shania have fun bantering back and forth, as well as producing wonderful harmonies.

5 out of 5 stars A MUST for Shania &/or AKUS Fans.......2007-01-12

Shania sounds better when she sings with AKUS (Alison Krauss & Union Station). Their bluegrass style suits Shania's voice and range perfectly. I wish they'd do this again! Alison and Union Station are EXCELLENT on their own, but when performing together with Ms. Twain, they all sound better. All the music on this DVD is good. The talking you can 'fast forward' through (I found it only semi-interesting the first time around). Shania's voice is complemented very nicely by AKUS' musical talent. There is a much more down-home feel & sound to Shania's songs when accompanied by AKUS - it doesn't sound "packaged" like her usual material (for which she's been criticized - I think unfairly - by the industry in the past). Worth the $18. if you are either a Shania fan or an AKUS fan, and definitely worth it if you are a fan of both, like me! I'd certainly like to find the songs on audio CD if possible [..]

5 out of 5 stars Shania's best DVD so far!!.......2006-11-01

With a very similar set-up as Elvis' Comeback Special - small audience,
no yellin' no stompin' like on the Üp Concert, dressed up in black leather
as well, Shania Twain together with the superb Alicia Krauss & The Union
Station present us a wonderful show with her biggest hits. The whole
atmosphere is very "catchy" and shows us constantly that this woman
can really sing and does not need those sometimes loud and molesting
POP bands behind her. This show definitely sounds more country-like
which really were her roots when she started out. No doubt, this
is the best and most authentic Shania you can listen to nowadays.
She's having a good time as well and explains quite profoundly the
whereabouts of each and every song she's gonna sing for us. A real
pleasure.

5 out of 5 stars Real musicianship.......2006-08-22

Every song (all written by Shania and her husband) on this DVD is undeniably catchy, but I admit I bought it solely because Alison Krauss and Union Station were the back up band. I kept wondering how this bluegrass oriented band was going to pull off her up tempo pop hits, but they deliver every time in spades. They are consumate, and incredibly generous, musicians, letting Shania be the star, but adding their unique touch and bringing each song to another level. As she said herself, they make her look good. That being said, Shania proves that she can keep up with the "big boys" in terms of musicianship, and that she deserves her success.

5 out of 5 stars 5 star performances / 3 star picture / 1 star sound.......2007-06-22

But as another reviewer explained, Glen's performances and the rarity of these performances do in fact make up for the less than perfect sound and vision of this programme. I would highly recommend the dvd 'Glen Campbell In Concert' recorded a few years back (2002 I think)Glen is in top form, picture is crystal and the sound...THE SOUND is superb!(Dolby Digital 5.1!)
Hope this helps

5 out of 5 stars A Great Blast From The Past.......2007-05-28

Having been there playing Bass with Glen on these concerts, watching them now is rather like entering a time machine. Bob Felts was on Drums, Carl Jackson was on Guitar and Banjo and Dennis McCarthy was our Conductor.
I always considered Glen to be ahead of his time as a country singer, moreover, his understanding and interpretation of the pop music of the day paved the way for todays stars such as Steve Wariner, Vince Gill and Keith Urban.
The London Musicians were also a pleasure to work with.
Thank God for Glen Campbell!

5 out of 5 stars WHAT A TALENT.......2007-05-07

I was blown away by this awesome dvd of Glen Campbell in his prime. Most of this rare footage was taken from an english tv performance. What a great singer, guitarist and all aroung great entertainer. The picture quality isn't the greatest but,the performances more than make up for it. Check out the guitar instrumental of "AIN'T NO SUNSHINE"

4 out of 5 stars Great Performances!.......2007-02-15

This DVD captures Campbell at what was probably the peak of his career. His voice is exceptional and his stage presence is right on. There are a number of his greatest hits included as well as some seldom heard additions. I liked the modified version of "Galveston" and his performance of "Mary in The Morning". The section pairing Campbell with songwriter Jimmy Webb is a treat. The two talents were a great combination. Campbell's rendition of MacArthur Park is one of my favorites.

The DVD quality does leave much to be desired. The video is VHS quality and the sound is a little scratchy at times. However, for the price and the number of performances included I suppose these limitation should be overlooked.

I believe this would be a loved addition to any Glen Campbell Fan's collection.

Enjoyed seeing her performances but would rather just listen. Ok for a look at history.

5 out of 5 stars Thrilling Look Into Star's TV Performances.......2006-11-10

I have been a Patsy Cline fan for a long time. All I ever had to go on is her recordings, which are awesome! Now, you get to see the lady in action! It is such a pleasure to see Patsy teasing the camera with her eyes, sometimes turning out better performances than those captured on her legendary recordings. And the suplimentary material with Patsy singing "Let It Snow!" with Ferlin Husky is priceless! Patsy never recorded any Christmas material during her short career, so to hear her sing this classic is a treasure, indeed. And for those who are looking to break into the music industry, they can take a lesson from these TV performances. Patsy is graceful, and moreover, she is fully dressed! That is the way it's done, folks. Highly recommended for any music fan!

5 out of 5 stars Pure Patsy At Her Best!.......2006-11-05

I have been a diehard Patsy fan since about 1985, when the movie Sweet Dreams came out. I have the Real Patsy Cline, Remembering Patsy, and now the Sweet Dreams Anthology videos. These are a must for anyone that wants to know more about this legendary singer. This video represents some of Patsy's best work. If want to see pure magic, I reccommend that you get this video!

4 out of 5 stars Live Video of Patsy, not the background.......2006-04-19

I love Patsy. I bought two documentaries the same day, one was this, the anthology, the other was The Real Patsy Cline. I watch the movie Sweet Dreams with Jessica Lange over and over and always wondered what Charlie Dick was really like and what happended to him and the children. The Real Patsy Cline DVD has more of this. The Anthology DVD is more live video of Patsy. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the other one. It depends on what you are looking for. Interviews with family members, get The Real Patsy Cline, if you want live video of Patsy back in "the day", get the anthology. Hope this helps.

5 out of 5 stars A True Treasure, I Hope There Is More To Follow This.......2006-03-18

This DVD collection is a unique and very rare opportunity for fans of Patsy Cline, and music historians alike. For the first time we actually have the chance to sit down and watch the magic and the music that is truly, and uniquely Patsy Cline, I would highly recommend this program to everyone, the sound is great, and they did a great job on cleaning up the video as well, trust me, these songs never looked or sounded this great in the 50's and early 60's when they first appeared.

3 out of 5 stars Nanci Griffith_One Fair Summer Evening +.......2007-06-28

Given all the hype, I was not that impressed. Mediocre recording quality and 57 minutes doesn't cut it with me. I'll take Patti Griffith anytime

5 out of 5 stars BRAVO, ENCORE, BRAVO.......2007-03-24

I am a huge Nanci fan and saw One Fair Summer Evening on PBS prior to ordering. She is a very talented singer, songwriter and musician! She tells such beautiful stories in song. This DVD is great for viewing with friends or that special someone. Amazing show...2 back up singers, an acoustic guitar and a piano. All I have to say is WOW!

Because she is still somewhat of an unknown is a mystery to me. This DVD would make a wonderful gift for anyone that likes the styles of Emmylou Harris, Janis Ian.

4 out of 5 stars Anything Nanci is great.......2007-02-05

A good video shot live at Anderson Fair in Houston. It's a bit older but still quite nice. Video is a bit grainey from the low light setting but the audio is good.

5 out of 5 stars Nanci Griffith Oh what an evening!.......2007-01-10

I've seen Nanci in different settings, but the simple setting on this DVD is perfect. One keyboard, a couple of vocalist, with Nanci and her guitar.
It doesn't get much purer or soothing than this. I wish she could do a tour with this same set up. I know what she's doing with the NPR is a great cause but you really miss the intimicy that you get on One Fair Summer Evening DVD. A must for any listener's collection!!

5 out of 5 stars Nanci's my favorite singer--what else can I say?.......2005-08-27

This is Nanci from nearly twenty years ago, and she sings and looks GREAT (she still does!). As for the on-again, off-again red scarf mystery mentioned by an earlier reviewer, this was obviously caused by the fact that the videos were edited from more than one concert performance. The selection of songs in the concert segment of this DVD is also slightly different from those on the "One Fair Evening" CD--again obviously due to the fact that more than one version of the concert was recorded. In any event, disappearing red scarf or not, this DVD is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and the bonus videos are a great plus! The only "downside" to this DVD, if any, is that it is not LONG enough! I LOVE Nanci!

4 out of 5 stars Great to see Chet again.......2007-07-01

Chet Atkins is my guitar hero. He is able to cover many great songs from other artists in his own unique way as any fan of his would know and appreciate. His virtuosic skills are very evident on this DVD and enhance his stature as a great guitarist in my mind. He is a delight just as a one man show and you can experience some of that on this DVD too. I saw Chet Atkins in concert many years ago and had almost forgotten what he looked like on stage performing. I didn't forget though his great personality and humor on stage. This DVD has some great performances and it's great also to see Chet's personality and humor here again too. "Stars & Stripes Forever" is one of the most impressive performances. The DVD covers a large period of time. In some cases the footage and audio isn't up to today's standard's but that is understandable. Obviously the later performances are better filmed and have better audio quality. I like the section on Soundstage in 1978 best, which included Stars & Stripes and also at his home studio in 1995. The performances from the Merle Watson Festival in 1992 has a very entertaining performance of "There'll be some changes made". Anyway... long live Chet Atkins.

4 out of 5 stars Chet is Master, Chet is King.......2007-05-07

So many reviews of Chet Atkins music are filled with comments of how bad the video quality is or how cheesy the musical programs were.
With Chet Atkins, the proof is in the pudding.
You just have to see him play and that eliminates all the talk.

This compilation is right in the middle of the time of early video and
embarrasing wardrobe of the late 70's and early 80's; However, Chet Atkins is an inspirational guitar player and when he starts playing it's
a treat to the eyes and ears.

The Soundstage performance of Stars and Stripes Forever alone is worth the price of this video. That is one amazing execution!

Guitar players will appreciate how difficult that first chord of Cascade is, yet Chet Atkins makes it look like a walk in the park.
You need to view Yankee Doodle Dixie more than once to appreciate the guitar arrangement and realize that Chet plays Yankee Doodle and Dixie
at the same time!

Those who play the guitar seriously, those who know how much practice and dedication it takes to get to this level, will enjoy this DVD the most.
Chet Atkins always made it look like butter. It is no exception in this disc.

So, get the video, stop complaining and get to practice.
Chet Atkins Rare Performances should inspire you until your fingers fall off.

5 out of 5 stars A Master Guitarist - A Master Musician.......2002-05-05

Chet Atkins was, is, and always will be the master of guitar. This video starts with Chet at about a 52-years-old and ends at about age 71 displaying even at 71, the absolute, unbelievable, versatility and genius of this man. No matter where he is or what song he plays, he never misses a lick. Though it may be considered vintage or classic by some, it is still very current and tasteful. Anytime one has the chance to view this master at his work, I would suggest this, "don't miss the opportunity." This video shows Chet at his best as always, and one does not need to be a guitarist as myself to appreciate this video over and over again. Here, one can immediately tell that Chet loved his guitar and he loved his profession. The great humbleness and talent this man had is so outspoken as shown in this video-DVD. At the end of each performance, one can only sit astounded and say with a smile, "WOW!" This is truly a great collection for any music lover.

5 out of 5 stars A must see for all guitar enthusiasts.......2002-03-04

This video is a masterful compellation of the master's greatest songs. Now, those who have only heard Chet Atkins can see his lightning fast fingers in action.

Even if you are not a Chet Atkins fan in particular, but enjoy good fingerstyle guitar music, this recording is for you. The quality of recording and quality of playing make it a recommended buy for anyone.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Queen of Country.......2007-08-29

This concert really shows us the reason she is queen of country. I just love it.

4 out of 5 stars Tammy at her finest......a must have for her fans.......2006-07-25

This concert although held nineteen years ago is a must have for any of her loyal fans. The video quality (almost 8 track quality) is not up to todays standards by any means but it is no doubt the best that was available for 1986. The audio also lacks brightness and suffers from the "hiss" that was so commonly accepted back then.
Other than that, this beautiful ~~Lady~~ presents herself as graceful as any Queen on this planet. The sharp soulful cry in Tammys ballads still makes you feel the pain in her songs. I followed her career right from the beginning and morned her much too early passing like everyone else. This lovely "Southern Belle" radiates pure class. She very innocently captivates the audience throught every number. This DVD is definetly a keeper for me. I would suggest that you buy it while its available.

5 out of 5 stars I Love This True Concert VHS Tape - Thank you, Tammy!.......2005-05-23

This live concert was taped in 1986 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Tammy Wynette sings all her favorites in best form and she is supported by an excellent band. The recorded concert lasts for one very enjoyable hour. This concert is a must have for Tammy Wynette fans.

5 out of 5 stars BEEN A FAN FOREVER.......2004-06-17

I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF TAMMY WYNETTE FOREVER. I HAVE SEEN HER MANY TIMES IN CONCERT FROM SEVEN SEAS, WAY BACK WHEN, TO BILLY BOB'S TEXAS IN FT. WORTH, AND GRANNY'S DINNER PLAYHOUSE IN DALLAS, TX. I SAT ON THE FRONT SEAT AT GRANNY'S! SHE ALWAYS HAS PUT ON A GREAT CONCERT. I AM SO GLAD I BOUGHT THIS DVD. I HAVE ALL HER ALBUMS, TAPES AND CD'S AND THIS IS A GREAT COMPLIMENT TO THOSE. IT IS A GREAT BUY, AND THE PRICE WAS VERY REASONABLE. FOR ANY TRUE FAN, THIS IS A MUST HAVE ITEM!

5 out of 5 stars a country legend.......2003-09-11

This 1986 live concert was filmed at the Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling, West Virginia, and shows a mature Tammy, in her early forties, with attractive cropped hair, reed thin in an elegant strapless gown; half-way through, she discards the skirt portion, to reveal sequined pants, and looks simply stunning. She intersperses the music with anecdotes of her life, little verbal "snapshots" that are quite moving, like the story of the first time she went to Nashville looking for work, in 1965, with 3 small children in tow.
Wynette does not have a large voice, but is a supreme country stylist. There is a subtle sadness and vulnerability to her persona, and a delicate beauty, which also add to her appeal.

The music: The songs are My Man / Another Chance / Apartment No. 9 / I Don't Want to Play House / Your Good Girl's Gonna go Bad / D-I-V-O-R-C-E / Singing My Song / 'Til I Make it on My Own / Rocky Top / Alive and Well / Turn Around / What a Difference You Made in My Life / You Light Up My Life / Makin' Love / You and Me / Take Me to Your World / Womanhood / Crying in the Rain / Fairy Tales / Amazing Grace / I'll Fly Away / Will the Circle be Unbroken / I Saw the Light / Stand by Your Man.

The musicians. Tammy is backed by an excellent band, and they are: Rick Murrell, bass and vocals; David Sloas, guitar and banjo; Mike Douchette, steel guitar and harmonica; Charlie Carter, rhythm guitar; Steve Samuels, keyboard; Ken Janson, drums; and Sue Richards and Paula Murrell, vocals.
This is straight concert footage, with no fancy camera angles and no endless cuts to the audience as in some live films; it is an hour long, and though the appreciation of this concert will be limited to Tammy's fans, they will love it, and it is a nice way to remember this great country legend, who took leave of this earth plane in 1998.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars She's Got You - so watch this!.......2007-08-19

"The Real Patsy Cline" is a good overview of Cline's all too brief career. Director Mark Hall uses the interview as his primary tool to tell Patsy Cline's story. Interviewees include band mates, friends, family members and people who were a part of her life. Recognizable names include Loretta Lynn, Mel Tillis and Carl Perkins. In addition to interviews, original TV footage is shown. Beyond this, there is some quasi-reenactment material. Both video footage and photographs combine to tell her story. Significant time is spent on the events surrounding her last plane trip. Overall, the film does a good job of telling her story. A good biography should give the viewer a feel of who the subject was, what made the biographee tick and what the subject was like as a person. In an entertaining and informative way, "The Real Patsy Cline" accomplishes these goals. On the down side, the production is low budget. The 1986 program sometimes has that corny 1980's feel. This is easily forgivable since the substance is so strong. "The Real Patsy Cline" is not only a good introduction to Cline, but it is a celebration of her life.

5 out of 5 stars The Real Patsy Cline.......2007-03-20

I enjoyed this video. In the video people who worked with her shared things about Patsy as well as her husband, daughter, and her neighbor. It gives you insight on how hard patsy worked for her fame and how Patsy was an ordinary person but wasn't one to hold back if someone got in her way.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Dreams Follow Up.......2006-04-19

I love Patsy. I bought two documentaries the same day, one was this, the other was the anthology. I watch the movie Sweet Dreams with Jessica Lange over and over and always wondered what Charlie Dick was really like and what happended to him and the children. The Real Patsy Cline DVD has more of this. The Anthology DVD is more live video of Patsy. I enjoyed it, but not as much as The Real Patsy Cline. It depends on what you are looking for. Interviews with family members, get The Real Patsy Cline, if you want live video of Patsy back in "the day", get the anthology. Hope this helps.

5 out of 5 stars The Real patsy Cline.......2005-08-25

Another fascinating documentary on Patsy Cline, it also is very haunting as well, as it re-enacts the events that lead up to her final tragic flight on March 5, 1963, also the haunting piano music that was played in those sequences as well.

I really enjoyed hearing him sing. The coloring was not as clear as I had hoped.

5 out of 5 stars Classic George.......2007-01-06

This is absolutely "classic" George Jones. This is a great DVD. He is at his best!

4 out of 5 stars A must have for and Country Music fan..... .......2006-08-05

This is it folks, a must have for a C&W fan. The Possum sings all of his big hits on this one with his voice as smoothe and crisp as ever. The sound quality is excellent except for the over dubbing of crowd applause that is more than occaisionally annoying. The only other flaw is the poor quality stage lighting makes a complete mess of the color production. The Possums Jones boys led by the ever faithfull to GJ, Ron Gaddis is tighter than ever on this one. I notice Mel Tillis' lead guitarist helping out here and a fiddle player from N.C. that is without question the finest that I have ever seen. Combined with the finest players in the land and the finest C&W ballad singer in the land, this is Country at its best. I will share many enjoyable hours with my friends enjoying this one.

5 out of 5 stars George Jones Live In Tennessee Rocks !!!!!!!!!!.......2003-11-04

I just got a dvd player and this was the 1st dvd played. This guy is AWESOME !!! I'm just sorry it wasn't a little longer. There is nothing bad AT ALL on this dvd. If you like George Jones, you will NOT be disappointed with this dvd. It's a newer concert, and he is better than ever !!!!!

5 out of 5 stars What a show!.......2003-06-19

This video recorded in Knoxville, TN, on 1993, shows George Jones in big shape, great sense of humour and a entusiastic audience sheering classics like "He stoped loving her today" or "The race is on". The sound and image doesn't have the quality of recent DVD's but who cares when you can have the great George Jones singing for you at home? Long Life to Possum! There's a british version of this DVD that includes a documentary about his life and...troubles.

I've owned this video since it came out in 1993 and recently bought the DVD only because I've worn my VHS out - this video is truly a treasure to have! Cline's widower, Charlie Dick, and their children, Julie and Randy, have done an exceptional job putting this together - classy and heartfelt. It features Michele Wright reading Cline's personal letters to friends and fans, which somewhat narrates her life along with the interviews of friends, family and music legends. There are PRICELESS home videos, onstage/television performances(never before seen, including one of Cline singing "I Fall to Pieces" within a week of her death & THE Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts performance of "Walking After Midnight", her big break!), pictures that many fans haven't seen before and stories from family and friends that show a side to Patsy that some have never heard of - and some of them are HILARIOUS (especially Jan Howard's story of how she and Patsy met.) There are also a few interviews with current music stars, like Trisha Yearwood & K.D. Lang, who tell of her influence on their music and careers. Throughout the film, Patsy's music is played. Unlike the first video "The Real Patsy Cline", that Cline's family produced in the late 1980's, this film doesn't really focus on the plane crash, but more on her career. However, for other interviews with music stars (some deceased - Dottie West & Carl Perkins), as well as other performances & pictures not seen on this video allow me to recommend that DVD ("The Real Patsy Cline"). They're both worth having! You'll realize why she is the most hearlded female musician of the 20th Century! This is a must have for any Patsy Cline fan!
